Johan du Toit  Het groot geword in Sabie.

Sonja Pienaar  Sal graag my kinders wil wys eendag.

Dis iets baie besonders!

Maggy Steenekamp As dit by die pas waarvan julle praat, sneeu, laat weet asb! Sal graag saam met my kids lekker speel in die sneeu.

Estie van Wyk Dis te koud! As ek dit wil beleef, sal ek my hele klerekas moet aantrek!

altyd ‘n wit kombersie met my verjaarsdag gehad!

Dink jy hul tradisionele spelpatroon is nog effektief in vandag se rugby?

James Walkinshaw Dissipline!

Pat Patterson  Miskien so effe werk aan die spelpatroon.

Rozani De Beer Jacobs Watter spelpatroon?

Vlieg 2012

Vlieg sorg toe amper insekalleen vandeesweek vir ‘n groot internasio-nale diplomatieke insident.

Hoofpynpille. Maagpynpille. Sooibrandpille. Keelseerpille. Sinuspille. Naarpille. Maagseerpille. Kramp-pille. Rumatiekpille. Bloeddrukpille. Suiker-pille. Jigpille. Migrainepille. Kalmeerpille. Hormoonpille. Waterpille. Vitamienepille. Ysterpille.

The Mopani District Municipality (MDM) is the municipality with the highest amount of unauthorised expenditure in Limpopo, ac-cording to the latest report of the Auditor General (AG) for 2010/11.

He singles out the MDM in his quali-fied audit opinion for wasteful expenditure amounting to a staggering R203 million!

Mr Terence Nombembe, the Auditor Gen-eral, attributed the expenditure to a lack of leadership and commitment.

“The result also reflects the alarming in-crease in unauthorised, irregular as well as fruitless and wasteful expenditure. This state of affairs can mainly be attributed to a serious lack of leadership commitment as none of the initiatives and commitments made in the previous year have been imple-mented or carried out within the timeframe committed to by the leadership.”

Approached for comment by the Bulletin, Mr Neil Shikwambana, the MDM spokesper-son, declined to comment, referring us to the municipal manager, whose phone was off. The AG’s report has since sparked heated political debates with some opposition par-

ties, calling for action to be taken against the implicated officials.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) got a “qualified audit opinion”, Greater Leta-ba Municipality (GLM) got an “adverse audit opinion” and the Greater Giyani Municipal-

ity (GGM) retained a disclaimer making it the worst performing municipality in the district.

Mr Thulani Twala, the spokesperson for the GTM, says their qualified audit opinion was caused by asset management. Twala refused to give any details, saying they would issue a press statement after studying the reports.

Only two municipalities (Waterberg Dis-trict Municipality and Fetakgomo local mu-nicipality) in the province got clean audits, 13% got unqualified audit reports and the rest got qualified reports and disclaimers — while 10 % could not submit their financial statements on time.

The AG has painted a shocking picture of the financial affairs of the municipalities in the province. Nombebe cited incompetence and disregard of the Municipal Financial Management Act as the major contributor.

Ms Tseng Diale, the spokesperson for the MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, also re-fused to comment, saying the MEC would hold a press briefing.

Daar is slegs beperkte sitplekke beskikbaar. Bespreek dus vroegtydig.

Navrae: Lizelle Pienaar by 083 388 4640.

Inteendeel, Tzaneen se twee plaaaslike koerante is ‘n sprekende voor-beeld.

Toe my dogter en haar man en kinders

En opnuut trane in my oë gekry.

Wie het by daardie fietswedren gebaat?

Dis waarlik soos die Engelse sê: There is money in religion.

What will it be: Tzaneng, Tzanana or will it stay Tzaneen? Part 3Factual back-groundIn 2002 an application was lodged by Greater Tzaneen Mu-nicipality to have the name of Tzaneen changed. This matter is still fresh in the majority of the population of the GTM. It is also a well-known fact that the application was vehemently and vociferously opposed by the majority of the inhabitants of the GTM and its surrounding areas. In the ultimate end the proposed name change dismally failed. The opposition to the name change was mounted by both white and black inhabitants of the GTM and its surrounding areas irrespec-tive of the race, colour or ethnicity.

It is my understanding that once a proposed name change is defeated the matter ends there, unless, of course, the ap-plicant lodges an appeal against the decision.

In the proposed name change referred to above no appeal

was lodged by the applicant or applicants. Standardization of names:

The following principles govern the need to standardize names, and I quote:

• “more often than not people tend to give the same name to different places”,

• “names may sound the same or the spelling of one place may be very close to that of another”,

• “names can be spelt in different ways”,

• “In a multilingual country such as South Africa places often have more than one name.”

These situations lead to misunderstanding and confusion. Standardization needs to obviate this confusion, thereby af-firming the country’s history and national identity.

I assume that after the dismissal of the application to have the name of Tzaneen changed to Mark Shoppe, the author-ity responsible informed the Minister of Arts and Culture. The Minister of Arts and Culture would have taken a final decision that “Tzaneen” is the official name of the town. If this was done it is surprising why there should be a second attempt to change the name.

It is worth mentioning the fact that some of the grounds ad-vanced by those that opposed the name change of Tzaneen to Mark Shoppe... • To be continued next week

It seems that the majority of the Greater Tzaneen Municipal-ity’s councillors are favouring a name change for Tzaneen. Lekgolo Lazarus Ramalepe and Phetole David Mohubidu from Tzaneen say NO to a name change. They have researched the

issue and we will present it over the next couple of weeks.

“I reached out to touch you last night but you were not there. Once again I was alone and I realized just how much I miss you. My heart aches for you and I now know that perhaps I have lost you forever. I know what I must do, good-bye cruel, harsh and unforgiving world.”

These words could apply to any situation where someone is depressed, or has lost someone they love. On many occasions many of us feel the same way, we see no way out and our thoughts become negative. How many of us do the same thing as regards God? We carry on with our lives, sighting the demands that society places on us and God comes second, per-haps even third in our lives.

The statement above could be God’s words to us. He is always there but we reject Him until we feel there is no other way out and then turn to Him. The scriptures warns us time and time again that if we do not make things right with God we will loose out. The Eternal life that is there for us will be lost. We will wonder around like a fowl without a head.

Just knowing how much God loves us is not enough, we need to act on this. We need to return this love, “give unto God what is due to God” not my words but those of Jesus. Let us get our lives right with Him be-fore we find ourselves in a desert, wondering around with no hope, no love nothing at all. I do not know about you but I would not like to end up like this.

A question might arise “but what, if in the end, there is no God and we have been misled?” I know that I will have lost nothing, my belief in something positive has brought me through all my trials and tribulations. What if I am right, which I know with-out a doubt I am? Then I have lost nothing, but what about you? You will have lost everything.

Blessings

Sy is deur ‘n kunshan-delaar landwyd be-

oor haar loopbaan gesels.

Extremely unfairAnother Christian from Tzaneen writes by e-mail: Upon seeing the letter written by “Christen” regarding the M2M I feel it neces-sary to mention the following :

My daughter of 12 years old cycled for an entire month readying herself for the M2M Children’s Category Cycling race. Did it of her own free will to prove to herself that she could do it.

She was so excited about partaking in her very first cycling challenge. When we en-tered her into the race we were told that it was not a competition. We took it this meant that there were to be no prizes.

On completing her first race, and coming in first she was told to wait for the prize giving. She joined the rest of the children and eager-ly awaited her prize. To our astonishment it was announced that they would be drawing names for the prizes!

The first name pulled for a brand new bi-cycle was not present, and so they went to pick the next name. The child that won the bike was overheard saying, ”I don’t really need a bike, I already have one”.

My point is that I find this extremely unfair and misguiding that a prize giving can be done in such a way!

What about those that really put all their ef-fort into getting ready for these challenges, and then have the pri-zes given to one of the particpants who came stone last and didn’t even put any effort into it.

To see the disappointment on my child’s face was heartrending. I feel that they could have had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winner, and then do a draw. I suppose I should be grateful, my daughter did at least get a Coke water bottle.

Council mattersCouncillor Rene Pohl, DA Caucus Leader, Box 482, Duiwelskloof, writes: Several special council meetings took place during the past two months. The main issues were staff mat-ters, as the municipal manager, as well as all Section 57 managers’ contracts came to an end.

Residents, the media as well as the unions raised their concern about Mr Twala who is currently acting as the director of corporate services. The minimum qualification and experience needed, as stipulated in the mu-

nicipal regulations on minimum competency levels issued in terms of local government municipal finance management Act, is a NQF level 7 qualification, as well as minimum of five years at senior and middle management level of which two years must be at senior management level to qualify for this position.

Mr Twala lacks the two years experience at se-nior management level. The DA wrote a letter to the mayor, as well as MPL Desiree v/d Walt to follow up with the MEC of local government. The same questions will serve in the next coun-cil meeting to be answered in writing.

A motion will also serve in the council meeting of 28 August 2012 regarding the illegal hawker still selling goods under the bridge on the R71 road. She refuses to leave, despite several warnings. The vehicle used by the hawker belongs to a Mr Ma-chete, an official working at the municipality.

It is alleged that the illegal hawker is married to Mr Machete. Mr Malatji, the manager of the traf-fic division, refuses to respond to my requests to remove the hawker, or answer his cellular phone. This is unacceptable, as he is responsible to enforce all traffic laws!

The acting municipal manager also received a letter from the DA, requesting that the necessary legal steps be taken against all illegal squatters in the open wetland area behind Pusela housing units. Residents reported several burglaries, from Pusela, MediPark, as well as FloraPark.

The item of most concern to the DA is the payment of outstanding amount that will end in fruitless and wasteful expenditure which will definitely influ-ence the next Auditor General’s Report negatively. The item was referred back for further discussion. The DA requested to witness the taxed cost account of the legal costs of the attorneys, junior and senior advocates, as it seems exorbitantly high.

A Ward 15 community meeting will take place on Monday 30 July 2012 at 18:00 in the council chambers, Civic Centre. I can be contacted on 079 872 5012.

Help for the blindDesiree van der Walt, DA Limpopo Educa-tion Spokesperson, writes: The Democratic Alliance has identified a school for the blind in Limpopo which has only received books meant for fully sighted learners.

The school’s name is Siloe School, a lower pri-mary in Ga-Chenue with some 160 blind and partially sighted learners. Instead of receiving Braille books as was ordered for these learners, they received ordinary textbooks that can only be utilsed by fully sighted learners.

As Minister Motshekga holds textbook talks in Limpopo today, she simply cannot ignore the chaos that her Department is cre-ating. We demand deadlines from the De-partment and a public delivery schedule of when all books will reach Limpopo learners. An order for Braille books is so specific that it cannot escape anyone’s attention. Amid the mayhem caused by the late delivery of textbooks in Limpopo, this case is simply in-excusable.

According to general standards, it will take at least two years to convert these ordinary books to Braille format. For now these books can only be used by the educators, leaving the learners with nothing to study at home or to use when they pre-pare for exams.

This cannot be justifiable. Our most vulnerable citizens cannot rely on this

government to provide them with the tools to be-come more self-reliant citizens. This incident must be seen in the context of incomplete and incorrect orders of books being received by schools across Limpopo.

We also challenge Minister Motshekga, now that she is in Limpopo today, to visit this school to personally witness for herself the extent of the hardships suffered by learn-ers as a result of ineptitude both at national and provincial departments of basic education.

Tanya se kontaknom-mer is 071 056 5320.

Great news for Lim’s wine loversDespite an uncertain world economy since 2008, the number of new wineries in SA increases at a rate of at least fifty every year — a situation which has prevailed for at least the last five years. In other words, more new cellars have launched their wines in SA since 2000 than in all the time from Jan van Riebeeck’s first harvest (in 1659) all the way to 2000.

Great news for wine drinkers is that new producers who are inspired to engage with the market, who believe passionately in what they are doing, offer a valuable dynamic to an old and long-established industry.

This year, FNB Private Clients is proud to be part-nering with the Limpopo Wine Show, which offers an extraordinary balance between the most famous

names in wine and the new producers.

B o e k e n h o u t s k l o o f , Rustenberg, Tokara, De-laire Graf, Zandvliet, Quoin Rock, Creation, Leeuwen-kuil, Rietvallei, Glen Car-lou, KWV, Laborie, Paul Cluver Spier, Zevenwacht and Saronsberg are some of the over forty exhibitors at this year’s show.

The show is held at the Meropa Casino and Enter-tainment World in Polok-

wane today and tomorrow, each night from 17:00 to 21:00. Cost: R100 per session. Tickets: Online via www.computicket .com, at Money market counters in Checkers shops or at the door.

The Police in Bolobedu have been working hard to rid the streets from criminals ever since the launch of Operation Hardstick in June 2012.

The operation was estab-lished by the station because of the high rate of crime expe-rienced by community mem-bers. During the operation last weekend, the police had major successes and 48 people were arrested. They managed to arrest 23 people for drinking in public, thirteen for assault GBH and three for rape.

The communication officer of the Bolobedu police, Const Rebotile Shai explained that police won’t have mercy on

criminals, especially those who rape. They also managed to ar-rest two people for possession of dagga and one for posses-sion of suspected stolen prop-erties and issued tickets to tuck shops trading without trading licenses.

The police not only spent their weekend fighting crime, but also by giving back to the community. The Bolobedu po-lice fed 164 vulnerable children at Mamaila drop-in centre for Mandela Day. They spent their 67 minutes cleaning the centre and handed out groceries to the centre.

Pupils from various farm schools from in and around Tzaneen took part in a competition to select two representatives to address parlia-ment on education.

Each pupil had the opportunity to write a post card to parlia-ment on issues im-portant to them. Two pupils from Tsaneng and Appel high schools were selected as winners.

They will be flown to Cape Town to visit parliament for two days on the DA’s ex-pense.

Ms Desiree van der Walt (DA spokesperson on education) an-nounced that she will sponsor the learners who took part in the com-petition to travel to the Limpopo

legislature to take part in the de-bates on education.

— Beaunice [email protected]

Farm pupils are off to parliament

Ms Desiree van der Walt, Wilhelmina Modiba from Appel High School, Junitha Kubiana from Tsaneng High School and Ms Mbali Ntuli (DA federal

youth chairperson).

The Tzaneen police in conjunction with local social workers are looking for the family of a woman who has been roam-ing around town.

The Tzaneen Clus-ter Head of Com-munications, Lt Col James Ngoepe, said the woman is seen roaming around town for some years, sleeping in open fields and eating out of garbage bins.

The woman does not know her name or where she comes from. He adds that police removed her from the streets seve-ral times and she’s now placed at the Letaba Hospital for mental observation and for her safety.

”We will appreci-ate it if all members of the community can join hands with the police to re-unite the woman with her family,” said Ngoepe.

Anyone who knows her or her family may contact Brig Diana Mashele, on 082 565 8062 or social work-ers, Ms Nkuna on 082 845 2952 or Ms Melida Moreroa on 082 364 2481.

sewe boulbeurte laat kantel.

Principle 1 - Cardiovascular/respi-ratory endurance Cardiovascular endurance is pos-sibly the most important principle of fitness as it basically indicates how strong your heart is and could add years to your life. The heart is the most important muscle in the body and if kept healthy could pre-vent numerous health problems. Another reason that cardiovascular endurance is important is because your heart controls the oxygen flow to all your muscles - meaning cardiovascular health has a direct impact on your performance, both endurance and strength wise.

The better your hearts ability to provide oxygen to muscles dur-ing physical activity for a pro-longed period of time the better your energy levels would be. If you are new to cardiovascular training then it’s advisable to start as soon as possible on a manage-able light to medium intensity pro-gram. For example: going for a nice paced walk 4 to 5 times a week for 30 to 40 minutes. Vossies begin krieketseisoen op hoë noot

Die Hoërskool Ben Vorster se eerste krieketspan by hul afrigter, mnr George Engelbrecht.
