Message from Father Angelo

Be open! This is the opening statement of Archbishop Sample as we begin our convocation for priests of the Archdiocese of Portland. This command is familiar as we also hear Jesus telling the deaf mute, “Ephphatha” (be opened) and as soon as that was spoken, the miracle hap-pened.

Every time I give a retreat, I always remind the attendees that we reap what we sow. How much we take away from the experience depends on how much effort we put into it. In other words, the level of openness. When we spend an hour on sunday for mass, or several minutes each day in prayer, our spiritual growth depends on our openness to allow God’s presence to transform us.

I invite you to ask yourself how open are you to the chal-lenges of the gospel? especially when it’s uncomfortable and requires you to get out of your comfort zone, do you still remain to be open? When the bridegroom comes, are your hearts open to him?

¡Sé abierto! Esta es la declaración de apertura del Arzo-bispo Sample al comenzar nuestra convocatoria para sa-cerdotes de la Arquidiócesis de Portland. Cada vez que doy un retiro, siempre recuerdo a los asistentes que cosechamos lo que sembramos. Cuánto sacamos de la experiencia de-pende de cuánto esfuerzo pongamos en ella. En otras pa-labras, el nivel de apertura. Cuando pasamos una hora el domingo para la misa, o varios minutos cada día en ora-ción, nuestro crecimiento espiritual depende de nuestra apertura para permitir que la presencia de Dios nos trans-forme. Los invito a preguntarse cuán abiertos están a los desafíos del Evangelio. especialmente cuando es incómo-do y requiere que salgas de tu zona de confort, ¿aún per-maneces abierto? Cuando venga el novio, ¿están sus co-razones abiertos a él?

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS

It’s SOCKTOBER again at Sacred Heart Parish! The Catholic Daughters are once again sponsoring a sock drive for our court. The NEW socks for men, women and children may be brought to church and placed in the laundry hamper in the back of the church. Then the first week of November, CDA women will distribute the socks to local charities and schools. Everyone can use a warm pair of socks in the winter! Thank you for your participation.

Es SOCKTOBER nuevamente en la Parroquia del Sagrado Co-razón! Las Hijas Católicas están patrocinando una vez más una colecta de calcetines para nuestra corte. Los calcetines NUE-VOS para hombres, mujeres y niños pueden llevarse a la iglesia y colocarse en el cesto de ropa que esta a la entrada de la igle-sia. Luego, la primera semana de noviembre, las mujeres de CDA distribuirán los calcetines a organizaciones benéficas y escuelas locales. ¡Todos pueden usar un par de calcetines ca-lientes en invierno! Gracias por su participación.
