Dominican Republic win first crown at CACG CORDOBA, Mexico, November 30 2014 - Dominican Republic conquered their first crown at the Central American and Caribbean Games after beating Puerto Rico 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 24-22).Elvis Contreras scored 32 points and Jose Caceres 27 for Dominican Republic, that surrendered 36 points, while Hector Soto scored 26 and Maurice Torres 16 for Puerto Rico that gave up 34. In blocking, Dominican Republic was up 18-10 against Puerto Rico that registered a better ballance in collective aces (2 by Soto and 2 by Roberto Muniz) against two by Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico have played in four finals in a row since 2002, winning the previous three and losing the one played on Sunday at the Cordoba Arena. Dominican Republic had previously played only two finals in the editions of 1962 and 1986. In both of them finished with the silver medal, after losing to Mexico and Cuba, respectively. Along with that achievements the Dominicans have also won two bronze medals, in 1974 and 2006. The last time Dominican Republic were on the men’s podium was at the Games of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, eight years ago. Cuba claim the bronze medal Cuba claimed the bronze medal at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games after beating Mexico in straight sets. Scores were 25-19, 43-41 and 25-22. Osmany Uriarte registered 23 points for Cuba, while Javier Jiménez and Livan Osoria finished with 14 apiece. Iván Márquez scored 17 and Carlos Guerra tallied 13 (2 aces) for Mexico. Cuba Dominated 10-8 in blocks and 5-2 in collective aces, with 2 by Javier Jimenez and 2 by Livan Osoria. Mexico gave up 29 points by error and Cuba 23. Second set between Mexico and Cuba (43-41, 84 points) was the highest scoring one, overpassing the first set of the match between Bahamas and Colombia (32-30, 62 points) of the qualification round for places 5 to 8. Farewell to Tash It could be any given match. But this was the last one for Nolan Tash, the captain of Trinidad and Tobago, a man who for 20 years he carried the flag of his team. It was very emotional when the local sound announced his farewell. At the same time, the melody of “Las Golondrinas” (“The swallows”) was played at the Cordoba Arena. Elvis Contreras anotó 32 puntos y José Caceres 27 para República Dominicana, que entregó 36 puntos por error, mientras que Hector Soto anotó 26 y Maurice Torres 16 para Puerto Rico Puerto, que entregó 34.
