The confidence of foreign investors in the economic, political and legal status of Peru was confirmed once again with the decision of Repsol (Spain) and Saga Fallabela (Chile), among others to expand their investments in the country.

After a meeting with President Alan García, the president of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, announced that the company will make investments in the order of 6 billion dollars over the next years in Peru, which will strengthen our country as the third destination for their investments.

“We have explained to the president that our expectation, fulfilling everything before us, is to invest each year the order of $ 500 million, thus in the horizon of the next 5 years, including this one, talking about a total investment, to which we have already done, which is close to 6 billion dollars, “he said.

Brufau reported that, since its installation in the country, Repsol has invested the amount of 2 million 200 thousand dollars in the oil sector.

As a proof of confidence, announced that Repsol plans to accelerate the ex-ploitation of natural gas fields in the exploratory well Kinteroni X1 of block 57, located in the department of Cusco, so for the domestic market.

In fulfilling one of his government’s pro-mises, the head of State, Alan García, announced the transfer of 120 million soles additional for the start of the “third major phase” of Chavimochic, one of the largest irrigation launched in his first government.

“We want Chavimochic to be a Full and complete work, so I tell you that just have use an additional fund, in addition to what is the budget and government fees, will now receive other 120 million soles extra that I am sure we will target the most part to the third great stage of Chavimochic, “said the president du-ring a work visit to Trujillo.

He explained that this step is the cons-truction of an irrigation canal to reach the El Milagro pampas, passing by around Trujillo, where will be build ano-ther treatment plant for the north of La Libertad’s capital.

“That is what life has given me and what God has given me as a possibili-ty: to say that what we finished what we started, no matter if 20 years later, we started Chavimochic and completed its third phase,” he said to the applause of

hundreds inhabitants. Garcia recalled that when started more than 20 years ago the Chavimo-chic project, many people said it was a “crazy thing”, but today there are 70 thousand people working and hun-dreds of thousands of hectares in pro-duction.

This means, he said, thanks to Chavi-

mochic, Peru entered a new chapter of agriculture, modern and technical; that does not waste water, but takes it reli-giously to benefit people.

He said that Chavimochic also is the example followed by other large irri-gations as Olmos, who will deliver his government the next year with 50 thousand hectares and a hundred thousand new jobs for the future.

Furthermore, President Alan García announced that the Chilean Falabella group will invest 620 million dollars in the next few years in Peru to expand its business despite the difficult internatio-nal financial situation.

He stressed that the one thousand 200 million dollars of sales currently under shopping centers, almost 700 million are Peruvian products, and have al-most 3 thousand suppliers in the coun-try.

He added that investors know that Peru is a market with great potential for fur-ther development of projects of this size, as demand continues to grow in the country. “

Similarly, on May 12th, the Head of State opened in Callao the air cargo logistics center most modern in Latin America (Lima Cargo City) with an in-vestment of $ 35 million.

The complex, which would double the current processing capacity of air car-go market, has been designed to ac-commodate major air cargo operators.

Located in an area of 36 thousand square meters and covers 55 thousand square meters of constructed area. It also offers 2 thousand square meters of modern offices, which include 18 airli-nes and 5 banking agencies.

A total of 150 thousand inhabitants of Trujillo and more than 25 thousand inhabitants of various settlements in Puente Piedra (Lima) benefited from the works of drinking water that were opened by the Head of State, Alan García. In Trujillo was launched the “Switching Power Supply Southern West Trujillo, Salaverry and Moche”, with an investment of 19 million soles. The work includes installation of a line conduction, drive lines, distribution networks, reservoirs construction, connections and meters. During its implementation, the project generated 520 jobs.

PUENTE PIEDRAIn the district of Puente Piedra, the president inaugurated the expansion and improvement of drinking water systems and sewage for 25.261 people from 16 settlements of Las Lomas de Zapallal and enclosures.

The outline of Las Lomas de Zapallal and annexes covers the human sett-lements: La Libertad, Los Girasoles, Sr. De Los Milagros, 5 de Octubre, 6 de Abril, Buenos Aires, El Progreso, Los Zorzales de Zapallal and 23 de Septiembre.

HUACHIPA PLANTAlso, the head of State announced that thanks to the Huachipa Treatment Plant and North Ramal, now under

construction, the population of Lima will have the water service on a per-manent basis 24 hours a day. He said that this project, whose in-vestment exceeds 700 million soles, will benefit 2 million 400 thousand people, to date generating 450 direct jobs and more than 3 thousand indi-rect.

“In many places, families have clean water for two hours, for three hours, with this project we will have drinking water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this is the enormous importance of the work,” he said.

Is under way the “real revolution” to transform health in the country. To date, the government through EsSalud has invested 2 thousand 140 million soles in the construction of hospitals and Primary Care Basic Units (UBAPs) and the acquisition of high-tech medi-cal equipment.

In this way, nearly 8 million Peruvians policyholders have better health servi-ce and optimal care.

Have already been opened 3 of the 16 hospitals projected by the end of the government and 30 of the 100 UBAP’S scheduled nationwide.

Since assuming the leadership of the country, the government led by Presi-dent Alan García, 127 thousand 400 Peruvians have their own house. The government, through the Housing Mi-nistry meets one of the campaign pro-mises of President Alan García that more Peruvians can be owners.

During the Housing week, various wor-ks were delivered nationwide.

In Trujillo, were handed the keys of 315 houses of the Techo Propio program in the Nueva Virú Neighborhood, where were invested 10 million soles. This work generated 600 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.

Modernize the big school UNITS

The school units as Mariano Melgar, Bartolomé Herrera and Isa-bel La Católica, among others in Lima and within the country, are changing face. Thanks to the efforts of the government through the Education Ministry, has been assigned 250 million soles for the renovation, rehabilitation and modernization of 25 schools throughout the country. The works being carried out fast shall be completed between September and October, and with them, the country will have schools with a more modern architecture, a more natural lighting, improved walkways and sports areas. Now, the Great School Units are at the forefront nationally and therefore, the country’s students must have qualified teachers and quality education. The second phase of the modernization plan includes educatio-nal work in other schools in 25 provinces.

In a joint effort between the Central Government and the districts of San Miguel and Magdalena del Mar, the track that just came up to the Bertolotto Avenue (San Miguel) has been extended to 3,500 square meters La Perla in the Callao. The president, Alan García Pérez, has announced his decision to terminate the project before 2011, has earmarked 16 million soles to execute the works and follows step by step the progress. The ground affirmation works are done by machinery and engi-neering staff of the Army, funded by the Housing and Construc-tion Ministry. In addition to a fast track, with this project the capital will have a new leisure and recreational space in front of the sea because the initiative includes a boardwalk with areas for rest and to deve-lop cultural and sports activities.

Lima will have in the CostaVerde a modern coastal road that will connect in minutes Chorrillos district with the constitutional pro-vince of Callao.

Integration with BRAZILIntegration with BRAZILThe integration between Brazil and southern Peru goes leaps and bounds. The president, Alan García Pérez, delivered on May 15th 130 kms. of the Inter Oceanic road between the villages of Iberia and Planchón and next November will deliver another 35 kms. Thus, there will be a modern asphalt road between the border with Brazil and Puerto Maldonado City.

At the opening ceremony, the president announced the delivery in early 2010, another stretch of road linking Cusco with the border with Brazil.

With this route, a route that was done in two or three days, will be made in 11 hours, and then it will be possible to send to Brazil the agriculture, livestock, textile and industrial regions of the south, without fear of being lost in the way, and with lower costs of transport.

• The Inter Oceanic road will link Madre de Dios, Cusco, Puno, Moquegua, Tacna, Arequipa, in south of the country.

• To reach the border with Brazil, will connect the producers of the south with a huge market of over 4 million Brazilians of Acre, Rondonia and Mato Grosso.

• Between the border and Puerto Maldonado are 220 kilome-ters, of which 185 kilometers have been delivered of paved road.

• Between the border and Cusco are 710 kilometers, of which 421 kilometers have already delive-red, as well as 118 bridges.

Every May 22nd is remembe-red in the country the “Provin-cial Lima and the provincial, departmental and district clubs’ day”. This was available to the government through a Supreme Decree, as a tribute to the men and women inside the country who came to the capital to un-dertake their development.

The reminder date has the aim to develop a series of activities in this day that highlight the uses, customs, beliefs and tra-ditions of those who were born in different regions.

Moreover, it has covered the objectives and activities of de-partmental, provincial and dis-trict clubs, and has given a se-ries of facilities for rescue and promotes the values of the Pe-ruvian and strengthens national identity.

“It’s important to change the concept and understand that

over 80 percent of whom live in the provincial capital are in first, second or third generation, and therefore the most authentic is represented in these clubs,” said President Alan Garcia to enact the Departmental, Pro-vincial and District clubs’ law, last May 21st.

The standard gives promotional standards for these institutions, such as tax exemptions to their efforts to retain, create and dis-seminate cultural expressions, social and sporting activities.
