BRAZILIAN ADVENTIST CHANGES CAREER PATH AFTER WATCHING ‘TELL THE WORLD’

The film prompts a young physician to choose service over salary.

Posted October 21, 2016, By Felipe Lemos, South American Division

Watching a movie can leave a strong impression, but the experience is rarely credited with changing a life. However, a young Seventh-day Adventist physician has decided to switch his career path after watching “Tell the World,” a new film about the history of the Adventist Church.

Paulo Victor Benício de Moraes, 27, a lifelong Adventist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, said his heart was touched by the “sincerity and open hearts of our pioneers” as shown in the film, which was produced by Hope Channel Australia and premieres worldwide on Oct. 22.

“There was a scene that quite literally changed the direction of my life,” Benício said. “It was the scene where Ellen and James White were talking and she said, ‘I understood that it is a sacred duty not only to take care of our health, but to teach others how they can take care of theirs.’”

The conversation between two cofounders of the Adventist Church prompted Benício to rethink the direction that he was taking in his professional life. He had planned to specialize in otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat), a decision that he linked to salary. But now he will pursue clinical issues, which he said would be more useful in sharing biblical concepts of comprehensive health with patients.

“I only have a month left before my first residency examinations, when I am supposed to choose the specialty where I will work for the rest of my life,” Benício said. “The movie came as God’s answer to my prayers.”

Benício said he also hoped that his new career path would make him better suited for volunteer mission trips.

“I have decided to become a promoter of the biblical lifestyle taught by the Seventh-day Adventist Church since its origins, using to this end my talents and knowledge wherever I work,” he said.

“Tell the World,” which was released in Australia in August and has been featured in chapters on Brazil’s Novo Tempo television and elsewhere, premieres worldwide in its entirety on Sabbath, Oct. 22, the 172th anniversary of the Great Disappointment of 1844, the event that triggered the film’s plot. The chapters and the 2-hour, 34-minute film are also available on ARtv.

ADVENTIST CHURCH PRESENTED WITH UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO REACH OUT TO THE WORLD’S

MUSLIM POPULATION

The Church’s Muslim relations center seeks to build bridges between the two religions through expressions of love and understanding.

Oct 18, 2016 | Silver Spring, Maryland, United States | Emeraude Victorin/ ANN Staff The auditorium was full for church on Sabbath at Annual Council in Silver Spring, MD, USA. (Brent Hardinge / ANN) In a presentation to the Executive Committee during the 2016 Annual Council, Petras Bahadur, director of the Global Center for Adventist Muslim Relations (GCAMR), talked about opportunities that exist through Centers of Influence such as hospitals, and schools for Seventh-day Adventists to reach out to Muslims in their community. Though migration due to war is not good, it does pose an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with our neighbors and friends by supporting them in their time of need. On October 10, Bahadur discussed the needs and challenges of reaching out to the Muslim community and how the Adventist Church can meet those needs. GCAMR seeks to build bridges, bringing the two religions to a better understanding of one another, and present a different approach of expressing the love of Jesus. Currently, more than 7.6 million Muslims live in the United States, but according to a recent research study, 75 percent of Muslims in the western world say they do not personally know or have Christian friends. This may be due to cultural differences or perhaps fear, but many opportunities have opened up to facilitate interactions, says Bahadur. Bahadur says he believes that we need a balanced approach to reaching out to Muslims rather than an extreme approach. Everyone attending the presentation received a copy of the book, “What does the Holy Qur’an say about the Holy Bible,?” a resource produced by GCAMR. Islam was the world’s largest faith community during the 15th and 16th centuries, but today, Christianity holds the title. Geographically, however, Islam dominates the globe, and many of its territories are not welcoming of Christians. Sociologists predict that within the next 50 years Islam will once again be the world’s largest religion due to the growth rate of its population, conversions and steady devotion to its beliefs. Bahadur reminded leaders that this is a significant time in the history of humanity when Islam is in our news headlines almost on a daily basis and stressed they need to know of Jesus, and by God’s grace and through careful study of our Bible and key passages of the Qur’an we can share these important spiritual truths. “Jesus can come at anytime,” said Bahadur, “but He cannot come until Matthew 24 verse 14 has been fulfilled. ‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.’”

the world, He is to them now in recreating, upholding, preserving. The power

of the word which He spoke during the six days of creation is still manifest

in upholding and perpetuating the things He has made. It is manifest in the

re-creation of souls born into the kingdom of God. The Lord is a very

present help in trouble, and the Sabbath is to us the sign of His almighty

present power in and for us.

Why do we question the will of God

when we already know His answer?

Constantly beholding Christ, he will be changed into the same image

from character to character.

2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory

of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even

as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Sinful and worthless creatures though we are, through a vital

connection with Christ we yet may be renewed in knowledge and true

holiness, and thus reflect the glory and image of our Creator and

Redeemer, RH. 24 Oct, 1893

Young friends, Jesus can renew his image in your soul, but it must be

your consent and co-operation. YI May 14, 1884

The Christian life is constantly an onward march. Jesus sits as a refiner and purifier of His people; and when His image is perfectly reflected in them, they are perfect and holy, and prepared for translation. 1T 340

CARDINAL DOLAN USES ACRIMONIOUS U.S. CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Tuesday October 25th, 2016 in Briefings, Prophetic Intelligence Briefings The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Fund Dinner is a white tie fundraiser for Roman Catholic Charities. It is held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and hosted by the Alfred E. Smith family and the Roman Catholic Cardinal of New York. This year’s list of invitees to the 71st annual dinner included Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The only thing between the two presidential rivals was Cardinal Dolan with whom they shared the meal and the dais. Normally, the dinner speeches are something of a roast with the speakers light-heartedly ridiculing themselves and teasing each other. But Donald Trump skewered Hillary Clinton with harsh criticism and was booed by the audience. Though the media skewered Trump in return, the Catholic Church took advantage of the opportunity to hobnob with the very wealthy attendees. The Al Smith Dinner dates back to 1945, honoring the legacy of the nation’s first Roman Catholic presidential candidate. The toxic remarks created a lot of tension at the dinner, but Cardinal Dolan eased the tension and reminded those wealthy Wall Street executives and other influential people why they had gathered together – to support the Catholic Charities, particularly the children they help. And though the latest release of hacked emails from the Clinton campaign has led to allegations of a deep-seated anti-Catholic bias in the Democratic Party, Cardinal Dolan was able to raise a record-breaking six million dollars for needy children. Trump’s questionable stance on abortion has Catholic voters in a knot as well. “If there’s one thing that both this election cycle has revealed, it’s that something is seriously wrong with the way we do politics…” wrote Crux. “Yet despite the grim circumstances, the refreshing reminder from last night was that even in the midst of such contentiousness, the Catholic Church still has the ability to bring people together and offer hope and a better way of engaging the world around us.” Dolan used the acrimony between the candidates to suggest that it won’t necessarily be a political campaign that will be there to meet the needs of the poor—it will be the Church. “And all the world wondered…” Revelation 13:3 Source References: ● Al Smith dinner reflects Church’s ability to bring people together ● Wikipedia: Alfred E. Testimonies for the Church Volume IV … by (E.G. White)

“Choosing Earthly Treasure” (chapter 5, pp 51.1 - 53.1)

———————————————

How will this wealth for which you have bartered your soul be appropriated, should you be suddenly called to close your probation, and your voice no longer control it? What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Your means are of no more value than sand, only as used to provide for the daily necessities of life and to bless others and advance the cause of God. God has given you testimonies of warning and encouragement, but you have turned from them. You have doubted the Testimonies. When you come back and gather up the rays of light, and take the position that the Testimonies are from God, then you will be settled in your belief and will not thus waver in darkness and weakness. {4T 53.2}

You can be a blessing to the church at-----. You can be a pillar there even now if you will come to the light and walk in it. God calls after you again. He seeks to reach you, girded about with selfishness as you are, and covered with the cares of this life. He invites you to withdraw your affections from the world and place them upon heavenly things. In order to know the will of God, you must study it, rather than follow your inclinations and the natural bent of your own mind. What wilt Thou have me to do?" should be the earnest, anxious inquiry of your heart. {4T 53.3}

The weight of the wrath of God will fall upon those who have misspent their time and served mammon instead of their Creator. If you live for God and heaven, pointing out the way of life to others, you will go onward and upward to higher and holier joys. You will be rewarded with the "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: . . . enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." The joy of Christ was that of seeing souls redeemed and saved in His glorious kingdom. "Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." {4T 54.1}

To gain the treasures of this world, and use them as you have done to separate your affections from God, will be to you in the end a terrible curse. You do not take time to read, to meditate, or to pray; and you have not taken time to instruct your children, keeping before them their highest interest. God loves your children; but they have had little encouragement to live a religious life. If you destroy their faith in the Testimonies you cannot reach them. The minds of poor, fallible mortals should be disciplined and educated in spiritual things. When the training is all in reference to the world, and to making a success of acquiring property, how can spiritual growth be attained? It is an impossibility. You, my brother, and your family might have risen to the full stature of men and women in Christ Jesus had you felt one half the interest to perfect Christian character and to serve the Lord that you have had to serve the world. {4T 54.2}

God is not well pleased that His servants should be ignorant of His divine will,

novices in spiritual understanding, but wise in worldly wisdom and knowledge. Your earthly interest can bear no comparison with your eternal welfare. God has a higher work for you to do than that of acquiring property. You need a deep and thorough work accomplished for you. Your entire family need it, and may God help you all to attain perfection of Christian character. Your children can and should be a blessing to the youth of your community. By their example, by their conversation and actions, they can glorify their heavenly Father and grace the cause of religion. {4T 54.3}

October 29th Saul Becomes Paul, Apostle To The Gentiles And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. Acts 9:4, 5 Saul had been educated by the most learned teachers of the age. He had been taught by Gamaliel. Saul was a rabbi and a statesman. He was a member of the Sanhedrin and was very zealous for the suppression of Christianity. He acted a part in the stoning of Stephen, and we read further of him, “As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.” But he was stopped in his career of persecution. As he was on his way to Damascus to arrest any Christians he could find, “suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”. . . Saul converted was called Paul. He united with the disciples and was among the chief of the apostles.—Manuscript 95, 1899. Although the apostles were often cast down in the conflict with evil people and the powers of darkness, yet they were enabled to press again to the conflict, having before them triumph or death in the effort. In their bodies, in bruises and wounds and stripes received for the sake of Jesus, they carried the evidence of the crucifixion of Christ, that they were partakers with Him of His sufferings. Their very deliverance and preservation under manifold difficulties and trials testified that Jesus lived, and because of His power they lived also.—Manuscript 58, 1900. A true and faithful Stephen was stoned to death by the enemies of Christ. Surely it did not appear that God was strengthening His cause in the earth by thus permitting wicked men to triumph. But from this very circumstance, Paul was converted to the faith, and through his words thousands were brought to the light of the gospel.—Letter 10, 1879. Those selected for the work of God should be men and women who are faithful and true, workers whom God can instruct, who will impart what they receive, proclaiming without reserve the will of God, pointing out the better way to all with whom they come in contact. New men and women in Christ are born to conflict, toil, and labor, born to engage in the good fight of faith. There is ever within their reach a power by which they may obtain the victory at every onset, power that will enable them to be more than conquerors over the difficulties they meet.—Letter 150, 1900.
