  • PAGE TWO TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 21, 2015

    This Sunday we celebrate Fathers Day and I invite you to please join me in of-fering a prayer of thanksgiv-ing for all of our fathers, liv-

    ing and deceased. We pray that they will be filled with every blessing and that those who are living may be strengthened in their vocation of love and nurture of their families. In todays world it is sad to think of how the role and nature of fatherhood has been undervalued; yet, every modern study has affirmed that there is no substitute for a healthy and loving father. The love, care, guidance, sup-port, protection, and nurturing of a father is essen-tial. May God bless our dear fathers and let us thank them for their unconditional love and sacri-fice.

    For those of us who are blessed to be fathers or grandfathers, today is a good time to re-evaluate our role. Too often we can be distracted from things of the world like work, sports, or even vid-eo games and we can forget how important we are to the health and well-being of our family. While it is necessary to provide for our family, they need more than our paychecks. They need us they want our time, our attention, our energy, and our love. Not only do we need to fix the window bro-ken by the baseball, or apply band-aids to scraped elbows, or pitch or toss countless types of basket/

    base soccer balls, but father must model what it means to be a fully actualized person, a Christian father. We want our sons to say... I want to grow up to be just like my daddy. We want our daugh-ters to say ... I want to marry someone just like my daddy.

    I must admit that as a pastor, I am really im-pressed by so many of our wonderful fathers at our Santa Sophia parish community. Your obvious love for the Lord and His church, commitment to your spouses, and selfless dedication and example to your children is truly inspirational. I pray that the good Lord may continue to bless you and all of our fathers and grandfathers.

    Speaking of fathers, I am so thankful to our won-derful priests who worked here at Santa Sophia parish over the years. Their commitment and love for God and His people is a great example which will not be forgotten. As we thank the Lord for our former priests who worked in our parish I re-quest you to keep them and me in your prayers. May the Lord continue to bless the priests and their ministry of serving God and His people.

    I am pleased to remind you that Fr. Jacob will be

    with us this Sunday and will celebrate the

    DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

    O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests;

    For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or

    Abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests;

    For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests;

    For the souls of your priests in Purgatory.

    But above all, I recommend to you The priests dearest to me;

    The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from

    my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me

    Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;

    The priests who taught and instructed me;

    All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way

    (especially...) O Jesus, keep them all close

    to your heart, And bless them abundantly

    in time and in Eternity,

    Amen

    PRAYER FOR OUR PRIESTS

    Monday, June 22nd - Rev. Sebastian Bukenya

    Friday, June 26th - Very Rev. Msgr. Steven Callahan

    Saturday, June 27th - Rev. Msgr. Mark Campbell

    Fr. Devdas, Fr. Bosco, the Academy, CMO, and Parish Staff, want to wish all

    Fathers and Grandfathers a very happy and blessed Fathers Day.

    Fathers Day Prayer

    St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their as-pirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will un-derstand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over Him faithfully as you have done. Pope John XXIII
