Dear God, Thank you for all of the homes and people that God made. Thank you for all the holidays we celebrate like Christmas and Easter and that we can spend them with our families.

Help us think about people who don’t have homes, family or money to buy food. Amen. By Liam and Alexander L (Year 2)

Allergy Awareness As we have several children who have allergies, we would like to remind you of the potential severity of

reactions and in particular of nut and seed allergies which exist within school. We request therefore that you please be mindful when choosing food and drinks for packed lunches and avoid

products containing any type of nut, such as peanut butter and chocolate spread (including NUTELLA), or sesame seeds, for example burger bun style bread rolls. Thank you for your co -operation.

Please keep us informed of any medical issues/medication of which we need to be aware.

Dance Workshops

This week Darren has visited St Andrew’s again and organised dance workshops for each class

based on their continent for our themed week. In Year 4 our continent was Oceania so our

dance reflected part of their tribal history - the Haka. We had to put our heads down and bend

our knees most of the time. We had to look scary because a long time ago the tribes would

have been fierce especially with their faces painted. We made lots of strong movements with our arms and

stamped our feet. Some parts of our dance were slow and strong and other parts were quite quick. We did not

dance in pairs or groups as each tribe member would have stood on their own so we danced individually.

To start with we were a bit scared as we thought it would be hard to learn, but it was easier than we thought!

Once we were in character it was quite easy to keep looking fierce and not laugh. We would like to thank

Darren for coming back and teaching us some more brilliant and fun dances.

Continent-themed Week

When we returned to school in January, each class was given a continent to research and base our

work upon. Year 6 were given South America. We used atlases to find the capital cities of each

country and their population. We learned about deforestation, its effects on the animals and how to

stop it by planting new trees whenever some are cut down. Brazil is the main country affected by

deforestation. There are 12 sovereign countries in the continent of South America. There are lots of

carnivals and celebration in South America, particularly in Rio so our dance showed this. We wore bright and

colourful feathered masks and garlands round our necks or held flags while we danced different steps including

the salsa. It was nice to come back to a themed week after Christmas and we now know a lot more about this

part of world. By Lily and Maddie (Year 6)

Open the Book Assembly

Yesterday we played servants in the Open the Book assembly. The story was called The Two Kings and was

about King Saul and a shepherd named David. Goliath, a giant, challenged King Saul to fight him but King

Saul was worried because neither he nor his soldiers were brave enough to fight him. However, David was

positive enough to take on Goliath and, with his belief that God would help him, he defeated the giant.

King Saul was delighted at first but then became jealous of his people seeing David as a hero and wanting him as

king. King Saul started to plot to kill David. We have to wait until next week’s assembly to find out what happens…

We enjoyed taking part in this assembly because we read out lines and had the chance to act individually, as usually

we act out parts within a group. It was also fun because Mr Payne played Goliath and he fell to the floor when David

(Miss O’Keefe) killed him with a slingshot. They both did a great job and no harm was done to Mr Payne!
