What’s new? Last I had the great pleasure of attending the Year 11 Prom at the stunning setting of Boreham House. Students made some spectacular arrivals in an array of limousines, vintage cars and motorbikes. It is a special rite of passage for our students as they leave the main school and progress to the next stage of their education and training. Both parents and staff looked on proudly as we witnessed this transition and how they have matured into independent, ambitious and resilient young adults that both the school and their families can be very proud of. We wish them a restful break over the long summer ahead and wish them every success for results day on Thursday 22nd August. We hope a period of rejuvenation will mean those students joining our Sixth Form will return enthusiastically in September to pursue the next stage of their education. Mrs Gee, Headteacher Bulletin 1/7/19 24th July—Last day of school. Students will be leaving the school site at 12pm. The School Association will be selling hot dogs and refreshments in G4 on the last day of school at 12 noon. Cash only. If anyone has any nearly new uniform that no longer fits or is no longer needed please consider donating it to the school. A group of Year 8 students have been working extremely hard this year, working on a section of an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet to perform at The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich on Tuesday 16 th July. We are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale! All tickets are £5 and will be sold strictly on a first come, first served basis. This week we invited our Student Library

Assistants into the library for a Summer

celebration. There are currently almost 20

of helpers from Years 7 to 10. They enjoyed

a treat of fresh strawberries and were proud

to receive their Certificates. Students take

    part in a varied programme of activities;

    including cataloguing new books and

creating themed books displays. We will be

advertising for next year's Student Library

Assistants early in September 2019. We

would love you to join our team.

  • SIXTH FORM FOCUS

I would firstly like to say a big thank you to the Upper Sixth

students who were a credit to the school at both their Leavers

Picnic and then Prom night at Mulberry House this week. Two

years of hard work were definitely celebrated in style, and it was

wonderful to see the Anglo Family coming together through their

friendships. The Lower Sixth students are at a different stage of

their school careers. They receive their PPE results on Friday

along with the first set of their UCAS Predicted Grades, with

these being finalised in the Autumn Term before applications are

submitted. Our Results Review session in the morning is the start

of a period of reflection regarding these results, where students

are encouraged to use them as a springboard to analyse what went

well in their PPEs, what didn’t, and how they can improve with

the help of their teachers, starting today. I would ask parents to

please discuss these results with their daughter/son and to

encourage them work to on improvements over the remaining

weeks of the Term and at times during the summer. However,

the school holidays are also a time to switch off and to

recharge, therefore I wish you all a pleasant break and look

forward to seeing you ready to take on our next challenge next

    year in September.

Mr Newton, Director of Sixth Form

  • Callum Hodson heard about the BBC Radio

2 500 word competition and decided to

write some stories to enter. One of his sto-

ries “The One that Hates” made it through to

the second stage of the competition, a great

achievement for Callum. He met with Mr

Barrs, Headteacher and shared this experi-

ence along with his successful story.

We encourage students to enter this compe-

tition through the school but are really proud

that Callum took initiative to do this him-

    self.

We hope that more students take incentive

    from his achievement.

Essex Dance Theatre on Tour I joined Essex Dance Theatre when I moved to the area in 2017 and was invited to join their

performing group in 2018. I train for 10 hours a week and spend several extra hours teaching younger

students each weekend. All the hard work and preparation culminated in our regional and national

tours and our performance at the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford. This Summer, I will be part of EDT’s

Essex schools tour, performing at local schools. Next year, I hope to join the National tour which

includes performances and teaching workshops in schools and theatres in Devon.

Established by Debbie Holme for Essex County Council in 1975, EDT is now in its 44th year serving

the young people of Essex, reaching a diverse population. They have recently become one of the five

schools affiliated to the Royal Ballet’s ‘Chance to Dance’ programme, which aims to promote access

to ballet for primary school children across the country who might otherwise not have the opportunity.

Essex Dance Theatre is now a second home for me

and I consider the people I dance with family. It has

really helped me express my passion for dance and

    performing!
