What’s new: The brilliant novelist, Maya Angelou once wrote, “When we give
cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”
Our Year 8s did an amazing job during Charities Week, raising
significant money fo ‘Giving Nation’ and a lot of fun was had, as
you can see from the photos. The charities who will benefit from
Year 8s great generosity are Amnesty International, Cancer Research
UK, the Samaritans and the school’s link with Lesotho.
A big thank you to Year 8 parents, who supported students to
organise events and source prizes.
Mrs Gee, Headteacher

Year 11 11/5—Leavers’ Assembly
Sixth Form
We were visited by ex-Anglo student Adem Aydin, who is currently a photojournalism and documentary
photography student. He is working on a project looking at the process of becoming an Anglo European
student, telling the story through images and texts. He has photographed parents, teachers, students and ex-
students to capture the unique educational experience that we offer. He also photographed David Barrs,
Headteacher. Adem studied at the school between 2008 and 2015 and said: “I felt a real sense of the Anglo
Family that we all hear about so much. One of the most important aspects of the story is the students who are
currently being educated with the school’s values. Aesthetically, the story is conducted with environmental
portraits, which aim to show individuals at different stages of the journey in the places they find themselves
currently. So for instance, an image of students
in a class learning a language, represents what
the school has to offer”. Adem went on to say
“The story is academic at this point, but the
nature of my course and work aims to give
coverage to stories that we feel need to be told,
and this is exactly the case for the Anglo
European’s story. It is a story that I would love
to share.”
We entered 103 students across Years 8-10 into the Junior Biology
Challenge run by the Society of Biology. The challenge consisted of the
students completing at least one of the two 25 minute papers based on
general biology courses. As well as knowing the course material they
were also be rewarded for demonstrating an increased knowledge of the
subject through wider reading, watching natural history programmes,
being aware of the news media for items of biological interest and for
their general awareness of our natural animal and plant life. All our
students performed outstandingly, but a special mention needs to go to
Nojus Visneveckas 10S for achieving the gold award.
He was presented with his certificate by Mrs Gee.
Meet our new Head Boy, Head Girl and Deputies:
Head Boy, Abdul Sessay
Hi, I am Abdul! I joined Anglo in Year 7 and have been on an exchange or visit every year. I
am taking the AIB course and I am studying English Literature, Drama, French and
Philosophy. My favourite subject is definitely Drama. My favourite thing is probably Haribo's
- as long as it is not Super Mix. Super Mix is probably my least favourite thing.
Head Girl, Sophie Meikle
Hi guys! I’m Sophie Meikle, I’ve been studying at the Anglo European since Year 7, before
that I lived in India. I’m an AIB student and I take Drama, English, Sociology and Italian.
I’m very excited to be your elected Head Girl. Feel free to talk to me about what you want
from the school and hopefully we can do great things together!
Deputy Head Boy, Brady Asumang
Hi, I’m Brady. I’ve been at Anglo since Year 7 and I’m studying Maths, Physics, Sociology
and Drama at A level. I hope to work closely with Anglo Council and Student Executive, the
school already has in place, to improve general school life for everybody. I’m always
available for a talk about new ideas and policies. See me, stop me!
Deputy Head Girl, Esther Itieimoh
Hello everyone, I’m Esther, I would like to thank all who voted for me and I will try my
absolute best to do as much for this school as I can.
We continue to
receive
donations in
response to our
appeal and we
remain
enormously
grateful for your
support.

Year 9 Course Counselling:
Thank you to all Year 9 students and their parents for

your GCSE preferences for next year. I am happy to
confirm that all students have been assigned their
preferences apart from the very few students that
have already had discussions with me in March and
April. Students can now look forward to starting

really appreciate it.
A word from the Sixth Form: As the Upper Sixth enter their last few weeks before
their examinations and the Lower Sixth move towards
their mock examinations, I just wanted to once again
highlight the need, as I did in our last assembly, to
make sure that you are looking after both your
physical and mental health and developing good
habits. It is not only the quality of your revision that
will have a significant impact on the results of your
exams, but also how well you look after yourself in
the run up to them and during the exam season.
Therefore, can I urge you to look at the Powerpoint
that I sent you during the week, which has a particular
emphasis on diet, relationships and sleep. These are
three key areas to get right to make sure that all your
hard work on revision pays off. Make sure that you
contact us if you need any help regarding this element
of your studies, and please remember to keep an eye
out for 'family' members amongst your peer group
who may be struggling.
