EDITORIAL | EDITOLE MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE | THE PRESIDENT’S LETTERLa rentrée Image Sans Frontière a commencé avec diverses expositions de prestige aussi bien dans le zoo et parc botanique de Mulhouse pour "200 photographies pour la nature" en septembre, qu’à Rambouillet lors du Festiphoto en octobre et prochainement le prestigieux festival de Montier en Der où nous exposerons comme chaque année, faisant la promotion des photographes qui participent à ces manifestations.

Le principal objectif de l’année 2016 sera la 5ème World Cup avec comme en 2014, Long Ly Hoang, chairman général. La World Cup est ouverte à tous les photographes de tous les pays.

Le jugement sera effectué simultanément dans 6 pays avec pour chairmans :Chypre : Andréas L. Andreou Espagne : Jose TamayoFrance : Michel Cambornac Italie : Giulio VeggiMacédoine : Vladimir Jovanosky Vietnam : Huu Tri TranLe jugement s’effectuera en simultané avec les juges de chaque pays : Chypre, France, Italie, Macédoine-Serbie, Vietnam. L’équipe vietnamienne assurera le suivi informatique.Merci d’avance au chairman général ainsi qu’aux chairmans de chaque pays pour leur travail nécessaire à l’accomplissement d’un tel défi.

Notre partenariat avec le Vietnam se poursuit dans le concours "A green environment 2015". Un jugement simultané entre nos 2 pays s’effectuera cette année avec des juges aux sensibilités différentes qui apportent richesses et confrontations. nature.giadinhphoto.com

The beginning of the year has started with several prestigious exhibitions both in the Mulhouse zoo and Botanical Park with "200 photographs for nature" in September and in Rambouillet with "Festiphoto" in October, and in a near future the prestigious festival in Montier en Der where, as every year, our photos will be displayed, so promoting the photographers who enter these events.

An exhibition of photos by female photographers from “Image without Frontier” will be organised in 2016 by Veniero Ribboli. We will ask for your photos and thank you in advance for taking part in it. The photos will be displayed at Riccione during the summer 2016.

VOYAGE AU SPITZBERG | TRIP TO SVALBARD

En juin dernier, cinq membres d’ISF (Philippe Bolle, Béatrice Denis et Raymond Gaspart de France, Steven Kessel et Claude Wegscheider, des USA) ont effectué un voyage au Spitzberg sous la gouverne de Benoist Clouet, photographe animalier réputé et spécialiste des régions arctiques. Un périple qui les a menés le long des côtes N-O et Nord de Spitsbergen jusqu’au 80e parallèle et les aura comblés à tous égards.

This past June, five ISF members (Philippe Bolle, Béatrice Denis and Raymond Gaspart from France, Steven Kessel and Claude Wegscheider from the USA) took a trip to the Svalbard Archipelago under the guidance of Benoist Clouet, a well-respected nature photographer and specialist of the Arctic regions. The cruise along the northwestern and northern coast of Spitsbergen, the main island, took them all the way to 80º North, which filled everybody with joy.

Au plan animalier, si l’on exclut les baleines – seul un rorqual et quelques bélougas furent entraperçus, le reste de la faune arctique était au rendez-vous : des millions de guillemots nichant dans les falaises aux côtés de mouettes tridactyles et de macareux, en passant par les goélands, oies, fulmars, labbes, eiders, sternes et autres oiseaux marins ; deux variétés de phoques, des morses ainsi que les trois seuls mammifères terrestres de l’archipel : renne du Svalbard, renard polaire et ours blanc dont une mère accompagnée de deux petits de l’année.

Concerning wildlife, apart from whales (only a Minkie Whale and a few Belugas very briefly spotted), most of the Arctic fauna present at those latitudes could be observed: millions of guillemots, kittiwakes, and puffins nesting on cliff faces alongside gulls, geese, fulmars, skuas, eiders, terns and many other seabirds; two species of seals, two colonies of walruses and the only three land mammals present in the islands: the Svalbard reindeer, arctic foxes and polar bears – a mother accompanied by her two sixmonth old cubs.

Grande variété climatique également allant du ciel bleu sur une mer d’huile à la tempête de neige, en passant par vents violents et mer démontée ou ciel bas et brouillards d’advection, mais avec un air toujours d’une grande limpidité et des lumières d’exception, le soleil ne s’élevant pas très haut dans le ciel.

The weather conditions were extremely varied: from blue skies over glassy seas to snowstorms, violent gales and rough seas, advection fog and low cloud ceilings. But the air was always extremely clear, limpid, producing exceptional purity of light, enhanced by the low angle of the sun.

Conditions idéales, donc, pour photographier des paysages exceptionnellement beaux, succession ininterrompue de pics enneigés et de glaciers. La "croisière" fut elle aussi d’exception : un bateau d’à peine 23 mètres, certes, pour 14 personnes, y compris l’équipage, mais remarquablement bien agencé, entretenu et confortable, mené de main de maître par son capitaine et son second. Et sur le plan gastronomique, un plus non attendu en pareilles circonstances mais tout aussi bienvenu : la cuisine succulente et variée d’une femme-orchestre qui semblait ne jamais dormir puisqu’elle était également un guide informé, assistait aux manœuvres, accompagnait les sorties en zodiac à midi ou à minuit, et assurait la sécurité armée obligatoire lors des balades à terre. Une aventure qui aura suscité de nombreux superlatifs et dont ce reportage photographique ne peut fournir qu’un bref aperçu.

Ideal conditions to capture the beautifully dramatic scenery, consisting of an uninterrupted succession of snow-covered peaks and glaciers. The “cruise” itself was exceptional: a 75-foot boat for 14 people including the crew may not sound like much; yet, it was immaculate, well maintained and designed, making it a very comfortable vessel perfectly steered by its captain and lieutenant. On the gastronomic front, all benefited from a welcome though unexpected plus: the succulent cooking of a female jack-of-all-trades who never seemed to sleep as she was also a well-informed guide, participating in all the maneuvers, leading the land expeditions and serving as bodyguard,carrying the mandatory guns on every excursion. A superlative adventure barely - bearly?? - measurable from these few illustrations.

Habituée à voyager depuis l’enfance, je suis curieuse de la beauté de l’ailleurs, de l’étrange comme de l’étranger qui constituent mon domaine photographique de prédilection. Particulièrement sensible aux sujets humains, paradoxalement j’aime par-dessus tout, les grands espaces, les déserts chauds ou froids où, loin des hommes, comme le dit Sylvain Tesson on peut “contempler les nuances de la lumière sur la peau du monde” …

Having travelled extensively ever since I was a child, my photography revolves around a predilection for the beauty of strange and foreign places. Although primarily attracted to human subjects, I also love above all wide open spaces, hot and cold deserts where, as Sylvain Tesson writes, “far from the human presence, one may contemplate the nuances of the light on the skin of the Earth”.

L’Arctique en été, fut une découverte envoutante entre terre, eau et glaces, à plus de 80° de latitude nord. Du Spitzberg à l’austère Nord-est du Groenland, saisir les jeux de lumière tout au long des jours sans nuit avec l’émerveillement de l’enfant … Impression d’une autre planète et pourtant notre terre où l’immensité des paysages nous hypnotise et me recentre sur l’essentiel.

Summer in the Arctic was an overwhelming discovery of land, water and ice beyond 80º North: from Spitsbergen to the austere Northeast of Greenland, capturing endless daylight with the eyes of a child, feeling like I was on another planet, yet our very own Earth, where the vastness of landscapes becomes hypnotic and makes one concentrate on the essential.

I am sure, as a photographer, you walk more consciously through life as you are permanently open-minded scanning the surroundings for good photo opportunities and “THE” shot.This way you see more, you experience more, you keep many moments

more deeply and intensely in your memory. In addition when looking at your images after the travels done, you permanently refresh your memories. I started photographing everything, but nowadays have really mutated to a more or less exclusive hard core nature wildlife photographer. I love to travel to more and more remote locations everywhere on our beautiful world to experience nature wildlife photography at its best.

Comme toutes les années passées, ISF a participé au Festival International de la photographie de La Gacilly en Bretagne.

Cette année le pays invité était l’Italie, 9 galeries ont présenté des auteurs.

Like every year in the recent past ISF participated in the International Festival of La Gacilly in Brittany, France.

This year the guest country was Italy with nine galleries to present the authors.

Et comme chaque année, un thème précis a été choisi, "Nourrir la planète". C’est ce sujet que le collectif IMAGE SANS FRONTIERE a traité en montrant 20 photographies choisies par le commissaire du Festival, Cyril Drouhet, et qui ont été présentées à la galerie du port.

Lors de l’inauguration du festival le 5 juin 2015, 9 auteurs étaient présents à La Gacilly.

ISF a été invité par la fondation Yves Rocher et Le Festival à planter son arbre dans la forêt des photographes.

Like every year, a specific theme was chosen i.e. "Feeding the planet". This is the theme which was adopted by a team of ISF photographers. The pictures, chosen by Cyril Drouhet - Festival’s official organizer - were exhibited at the river port gallery.

The 20 photos chosen from the 186 which were received come from 11 authors from 3 countries France, Italy and Vietnam.

During the festival’s official opening ceremony on June 5th 2015, 9 authors were present at La Gacilly.

The magazine "Chasseur d’Images - Nat’image" like every year before, printed the 20 pictures of the Image Sans Frontiere’s Collective exhibition. This additional booklet has been given for free to the visitors of the Festival.

ISF was invited by the Festival and the Yves Rocher foundation to have its own tree in the Photographers’ Forest.

Une prestigieuse exposition de 200 photos animalière et de nature a eu lieu du 19 au 27 septembre au parc Zoologique et botanique de Mulhouse. Image sans Frontière était présent avec 33 photos grand format.

The Mulhouse prestigious exhibition presented some 200 wildlife & nature photos in the zoological and botanic park, from September 19th to 27th. Image sans Frontière was there exhibiting 33 large format photographs.

Ly Hoang Long, membre permanent d’ISF au Vietnam, chairman de la dernière ISF World Cup, visitait l’Europe avec son épouse Tran, l’été dernier.

Nous les avons accompagnés dans leur tour de France, jusqu’à la Gacilly.

Ly Hoang Long, ISF Vietnam member and Chairman of the last World Cup, visited Europe with his wife Tan this past summer.

We joined them on the French portion of their trip that took them to La Gacilly.Here during a photo trip in the countryside with the "La Gacilly" Photographic society.

Image sans Frontière was invited to display 20 large photographs at “La Bergerie Nationale”. These included a selection of wildlife images from the 2014 World Cup, Danxia Landscapes (China) by Marie-Louise Bernard, and Images from the Air shot over Djerba (Tunisia) by Francis Tack.

Sucé sur Erdre a accueilli dans le cadre superbe de son port, 3 séries de photos exposées au Festival de la Gacilly (56) et au Festival Atout Sud de Rezé (44) les années passées.

Les visiteurs ont pu admirer

- sur le quai de Bliesransbach : la série "Peuples et Forêts" réalisée pour La Gacilly en 2009,

- sur le quai de Cricklade, l’exposition "Dans la ville" du Festival Photo Atout Sud 2014
