Catholic Schools Week
FROM THE DESK OF MRS. LA SALLE
Catholic Schools… the joyous expression of the soul
January 31, 2012
Dear Parents:
Happy Catholic Schools Week! Our week began with a wonderful Open House on Sunday. Ihope you were able to visit us and celebrate all the wonderful work our children do. We hadmany new families stop by and a few alumni as well. Our 60th. Anniversary Mass celebrated inthe afternoon was beautiful. The Church was decorated with the children’s work and it was sonice to see so many families there. Present also were two former SMS Principals-Sister Sylviaand Vincent Casamento. The reception following the Mass was well-attended and lots of fun. Agreat big thank you to Maureen Carapreso who coordinated the event, along with the help ofGerri Ralph, Laura Petrillo, Alice Bankuti, Kori De Senzo, Cathie Brand and Allison Chorba. Please read the congratulatory letter from the Paterson Diocese Principals’ Association in thepacket.
Family Movie Night last night was a huge success. Parents brought beach chairs and blanketsfor the kids to sit on. Great fun!!!
Our highlight this week is on two brothers, William (grade 6) and Jack (grade 3) Syslo. The twoboys made an appointment with me to discuss a service project idea they had thought of :“Souper Bowl.” The boys will be collecting soup cans for our food pantry from the children ineach class. As an incentive, the children who bring in cans of soup may dress in their favoritesports jersey this Thursday. Will and Jack will deliver the soup to the food pantry. I could notbe more proud of the boys. They have shown the true Franciscan Spirit and I hope to see all thechildren in sports jerseys this Thursday. A flyer is included in this packet.
Please refer to the Calendar of Events on our website for Catholic Schools Week. There are stillseveral activities through the week that you may enjoy attending, including classroom visitationon Wednesday, the volleyball game on Thursday, and Liturgy on Friday at 8:30 a.m. (There is noLiturgy tomorrow morning.) Of course, I hope to see you at the Pasta Dinner on Saturday night.
Have a great week! Enjoy the Super Bowl!
Sincerely,Carol La Salle

The Receiving Project
Do you have a lovely communion dress hanging in your daughter’s closet, just waiting
to be worn again? Would you be willing to donate it to the St. Mary’s Community?
During the week of February 12 – 19, 2012, St. Mary’s School will be collecting clean,
gently worn communion dresses, veils, and white sweaters from families of children who
have already received their First Communion. Please bring them to the school or
Parish Center during school or Parish Center hours.
We will then sort them by size and make them available for the children of the parish
whose parents are facing financial difficulties.
