What has lain beneath the surface of Romans looms inescapably before us in verses 11:31-32. Disobedience leads to obedience, disbelief to faith, wrath to mercy. Human disobedience—in whatever form, from whatever people— does not jeopardize sovereign grace. The Gentiles cannot boast in their blessing, nor can Jews despair in their hardness. The blessings of the former results from grace, the judgment of the latter leads to grace. In both cases, grace triumphs. - James Edwards, Romans, p.277 Covenant Presbyterian Church of Reno, Nevada May 3, 2020 Service for The Lord’s Day May 3, 2020 – 10:00 a.m. God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. The Israel Problem III: Is Salvation Sure?

Romans 11:1-36

Sometimes when we don’t consider or understand someone’s motivation, we can be confused by their actions.

Ten Good Reason, from Romans 11, why Salvation is Sure… A. The Incompleteness of Disobedience

(The Present Manifestation of Grace) 1. Personal Experience – PAUL! 2. Past History – The Remnant 3. Present History – The Church

B. The Impermanence of Exclusion (The Future Promise of Grace)

4. God’s Hardening & Judgment Is Not Permanent 5. The Place of Israel’s Stumbling (Within Reach) Is Temporary 6. BUT… The Purpose of Israel’s Stumbling Is Permanent

C. The Immutability of God (The Eternal Foundation of Grace)

7. The Mystery of God’s Sovereignty 8. The Motivation of God’s Plan (MERCY!) 9. The Gravity of God’s Grace 10. The Greatness of God’s Glory
