DEFINITION OF A BUYING GROUP
A Buying Group is the coming together of similar inde-pendent businesses to leverage their combined purchasing power to receive better pricing and terms on the products they buy.
Successful Buying Groups bring efficiencies to the supply chain rather than simply flexing their “market power” to extract a better deal.
Efficiencies are created when Suppliers can rely on the Buying Group to perform functions more cost effectively for its Members as a group, than the current model of each Supplier dealing with each independent separately.
THE CHALLENGE OF BEING AN INDEPENDENT BUSINESS
Independents have a great advantage over their corporate competitors. They possess an entrepreneurial spirit that is difficult to match and they have the ability to react to local market conditions very quickly. However the nature of the supply chain within which Independents exist can often
lead to a competitive disadvantage compared to their much larger corporate rivals. Non Buying Group busi-nesses face and even tougher uphill struggle to compete in this market.
Multi-National or even National competitors can offer some of the same products that Independents provide for prices that are below their cost. New products or services are often available to these competitor’s months before the Supplier’s salesman calls on the independent. When a product is in short supply, often it is the corporate com-petitor that has stock, not the independent business. The result is lower margins at best and at worst, unmanage-able delivery times. If this situations persists many inde-pendents will find it difficult to sustain sufficient work to support their businesses.
We believe an effective, well managed Buying Group is the most effective tool the Independent can use to increase margins, grow market share and compete effectively with-out having to give up “independence.”

A letter from QuoteFast Software P/L
BSA - Amnesty offer for Unpaid Premiums
Contractors who fail to pay the appropriate premiums under the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme have an unfair advan-tage over contractors complying with the law. Unpaid premiums also negatively impact the per-centage increase in premiums. When is a premium payable? If you are a licensed contractor carrying out residential construc-tion work that is valued in excess of $3,300 (materials, labour and GST), for a consumer in Queen-sland, you are required to pay an insurance premium to the BSA under the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme. The amount of the premium is based on the contract price and must be paid as soon as practica-ble after the contract has been executed.
Residential construction work covers a broad range of work, including sheds, garages, car-ports, decks, kitchens, bath-rooms, roof replacements and may other renovation works. How to take advantage of the Amnesty: The BSA is about to commence a compliance program which will detect contractors who have not paid premiums. The BSA is offer-ing an amnesty until 31 July 2013 regarding unpaid premiums. Any premium paid before 31 July 2013, no matter how long ago the job was completed, will not attract a fine or demerit points. Anyone detected from 1 August 2013 will be dealt with under legislation. If you would like to take advan-tage of the amnesty, please en-
sure that you check your records and identify any unpaid premi-ums. Payment must be made prior to 31 July 2013. Premiums can be paid to BSA online, by telephone, mail or over the counter at a BSA office. Avoid fines and loss of licence: Each unpaid premium detected after the amnesty period will attract a fine of up to $11,000 and two demerit points. If a contractor accumulates 30 de-merit points within a three year period, the contractor will be disqualified from holding a BSA licence for three years. A life disqualification applies for repeat offenders. The BSA would like to see all contractors meeting their legisla-tive obligations, thus ensuring a level playing filed for all.
Dear Valued Builder,
This letter is to advise that we have been alerted to a new company on the QLD Sunshine Coast going under the name of Quotefast Estimating.
We have asked the owner to change their name as QuoteFast Software has been registered and suc-cessfully trading for many, many years but to no avail.
All of us here at QuoteFast Software have spent many many years and much effort to gain our good name within the building industry, and we are keen to retain it.
We have been alerted to this by one of our builders on the Sunshine Coast and also the Queensland Master Builders.
We wish to advise that QuoteFast Software has ABSOLUTELY NO ASSOCIATION with QuoteFast Esti-mating.
If you would, could you please pass this advice on to anyone who you may feel could be confused between the two companies.
Many thanks,
God Bless you and your families
