A historical overview of London's South Bank from 1753 onwards, this exhibition included realised and unrealised projects by key British architects including George Dance, Edwin Lutyens, Leslie Martin, Misha Black and Cedric Price. The exhibition traced the history of the land between Westminster and Blackfriars bridges; from the original marshland dotted with a few wharves and boathouses, through to the Festival of Britain and the cultural centre the Southbank has become today [nb: this exhibition precedes Tate Modern]. The exhibition coincided with the announcement by the South Bank Centre of an architectural competition for a masterplan subsequently won by Richard Rogers Partnership to regenerate and redevelop the area.
