Our Goals in Shenandoah County

Public Schools

To focus on student learning and the use of

research based instruction.

To help our students succeed to the best of

their ability.

To focus on enhancing the performance of ALL

students in a system where classroom

teachers, specialists and special education teachers can work

together.

To provide data-based decision-making for any students who may be in

need of extra interventions for improving their performance.

To provide our teachers and schools with an

efficient way to evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s instructional

program.

As educators, we are constantly seeking ways

to improve our effectiveness. We want

to learn how to work SMARTER not HARDER.

• Use the resources provided by VDOE, other divisions, websites, etc.

• Use judgment – what works with the vision and goals of your division.

• Guide the discussion.• Understand that there will

be naysayers – both within and outside of the division.

• Acknowledge that schools will have different growth rates. They WILL be in different places at different times.

• Teachers are talking about progress of individual students.

• Collaboration to meet the needs of students has increased.

• Elementary and Middle School Principals know performance levels of every student in reading and mathematics.

• The expectation is that every student will make a year’s worth of progress.

• Elementary principals have set ambitious goals.

• Parents have been appreciative of the help offered to their students to meet immediate needs.

• Parent-teacher conferences are data driven.

• Our high schools are developing programs to meet specific needs/weaknesses of students.

• Middle and High Schools are exploring schedule changes to best meet the instructional needs of students.

• Our teachers are more prepared for the new Teacher Evaluation Standards.
