OK, When You Say “Repository…”
“The central digital repository…will include: 1) both born-digital and digital surrogates, 2) acquired electronic content (both on-site and off-site), 3) user projects once they have been selected as appropriate for addition to library resources.” (UVa)
“…a single shared solution for the preservation, management, and controlled dissemination of digital collections that support research, teaching, and learning.” (CDL)
“…a place to capture, share and preserve digital resoures.” (Willamette)
“A repository is a collection of resources that can be accessed to retrieve information. Repositories often consist of several databases tied together by a common search engine.” (about.com)

OK, When You Say “Repository…”
“…a powerful digital object model that supports multiple views of each digital object and the relationships among digital objects. Digital objects can encapsulate locally-managed content or make reference to remote content. Dynamic views are possible by associating web services with objects. Digital objects exist within a repository architecture that supports a variety of management functions. All functions of Fedora, both at the object and repository level, are exposed as web services. These functions can be protected with fine-grained access control policies.” (fedora.info)

OK, When You Say “Repository…”
An Institutional Repository is an online locus for collecting, preserving, and disseminating – in digital form – the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution.
For a university, this would include materials such as research journal articles, before (preprints) and after (postprints) publication, undergoing peer review, and digital versions of theses and dissertations, but it might also include other digital assets generated by normal academic life, such as administrative documents, course notes, or learning objects.
The two main objectives for having an institutional repository are:
to provide open access to institutional research output by self-archiving it;
to store and preserve other institutional digital assets, including unpublished or otherwise easily lost (“grey”) literature (e.g., theses or technical reports).

Here’s a funny thing about ALA program scheduling…
April 2006: speakers needed for 2007 STS program. OhioLINK Institutional Repository due RSN
April 2007: OhioLINK Institutional Repository due RSN
June 2007: OhioLINK Institutional Repository now called “Branded DRC” – due RSN

Here’s a funny thing about ALA program scheduling…
Fall 2006: OhioLINK licenses a boatload (~7500) of e-books from OUP, Springer.
DMC software license expires.
Development sidesteps into Michigan’s DLXS and CDL’s XTF software.
