Experience gained through Internship...MARIA BRUNOAfter deciding it was time for a career change, I enrolled at the PittsburgAdult Education Center...right here in my home town. In June of 2016,I began my volunteer internship at the Pittsburg RotaCare Clinic.
Not only am I enjoying my work there but, at the same time, I’m gaining important work experience to add to my resume. I’ve even
decided to continue to volunteer at RotaCare after my graduation.
The PAEC Medical Coding program is wonderful and I’m ableto apply what I learned at school to my internship. I’m solooking forward to my new career as a Medical Coder.
PATRICIA FRANCOWhile attending Pittsburg Adult
Education Center, I had many adult responsibilities which, at times, made attending classes
very difficult. It was so worth the extra effort.
My experiences at PAEC helped me become a better person andopened many doors for me. I learned that hard work does pay off.
It exceeded my expectations of what I thought I would learn in myfield. PAEC is an excellent school that I would
recommend to anyone. PAEC taught me it’s never to late toachieve my goals.
You can do it, too!
Dream it! Believe it! Achieve it!
PATSY DAVISI retired in July 2014, from the Federal Government after 28 years
of service. It was time for a new career with flexible hours as I wanted to spend more time with my family and do a little traveling.
I had considered a career in Medical Coding and then I received a brochure from PAEC in the mail. I went to the orientation and was very impressed with the flexible hours and the cost.
In June 2015, I was certified thru AHIMA and received my CCAcertification. A Career Technical instructor position becameavailable here at PAEC and I’m currently in the process of obtaining my teaching credential while substituting for the
Medical Terminology class.
JALIL HASHMATULLAHI arrived in the United States in October of 2014 and immediately started
researching possible career paths. The Medical Billing and Coding Program at PAEC was a great fit for my expectations.
In November 2014, I enrolled and started my classes that December. After the first quarter, I found it to be very flexible...enough that
I was able to work part time while working toward my certification.I was fortunate to gain experience through internships at Delta
Medical Service as well as the Pittsburg Rotacare Medical Clinic.I now have the marketable knowledge, skills and experience to start
my career in the medical Coder and Billing field. I highly recommend PAEC. For those of you with
limited funds, this is the best education money can buy.

Community Members,
Pittsburg Adult Education Center is an integral part of thePittsburg Unified School District. But many community members may not realizethat we are also part of the Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) Contra CostaConsortium. The primary members of this consortium are the seven adult schoolsin Contra Costa, the County Office of Education Jail Education Program and the three Community Colleges in Contra Costa County.
Every month, multiple meetings are occurring with adult education and commu-nity college representatives working as a team to create clear pathways and supportsystems for adults to gain the education, training and jobs they need.
One example of this are the seven Transition Specialists hired by the Consortiumwho are working to create seamless transitions between all the Consortium institutions as well as other community partners. The Pittsburg Adult EducationTransition Specialist, Nick Morgan, works with the three East County adultschools (Pittsburg, Antioch and Liberty Adult Schools) and the Transition Specialist at Los Medanos College to help East County adults access college programs. (See information on his services and workshops on page 27.)
I will be informing our community of more opportunities the Consortium is creating that may support your needs and goals. We want to build our capacity to increase our ability to serve you better.
Most sincerely,
Lynne NicodemusPrincipal

Mr. Johnny Vigil has worked for the Pittsburg Unified School District in the capacity of Network Technician for 4 years. He has a Certificate in Computer Technical Supportfrom Diablo Valley College and is currently working on furthering his education by taking CISCO Networking
classes at Pittsburg Adult Education while in the process of completing his Associate Degree in Microsoft Systems Administration from DVC.
According to PAEC staff, Mr. Vigil “is very eager to help staff in any way possible.” He makes each and every staff member feel that the technology request is the only item on his work order and he makes them his priority. He is never too busy to answer a question or solve an issue. Another staff member stated, “They would not have a classwithout him as an IT guy.”
All in all, Mr. Vigil is extremely supportive; his excellence is expressed in his timelinessand promptness in which he approaches his job, and his ability to communicate the appro-priate technological issues and the requisite solutions to those issues. Without a doubt, if given the choice, the majority of the staff would love to have Mr. Vigil on our campus full time because he is a tremendous asset and provides excellent support.
