Building Committee News 18th
Transcript of Building Committee News 18th
Dear Ones, I’m a fan of Adam Hamilton. I love his books. Over the years I have used two of his books in Lenten studies for Wednesday evenings. I don’t know who your favorite author is, but think how wonderful it would be not to have to go to a conference and wait in line to ask him a ques-tion about his books. Imagine having Adam Hamilton on speed dial so that if you got to a part of his book that you didn’t understand, you could call him and say, “Hey Adam, what did you mean by this?” Well, if you are a Christian, you have something far better. You have the author of the Bible, God’s Holy Spirit living inside you 24-7. As Je-sus promised in John 16:13, “When the Holy Spirit comes He will guide you into all truth.” This is one reason we refer to the Bible as a living Word, because we have the Spirit of our Living Lord in us, guiding us as we read it telling us how to apply its principles and precepts to our daily lives. Over the past few months I have had many members of the church tell me that they have begun to read their Bible daily. They shared with me the joy they have experienced learning about our Lord. What a blessing to hear these words from our members. Today, we need truth we can trust. We need something we can rely on because so many things in this fallen world are not trustworthy. This week I read about an interview with a navy diver. The diver told about times when he was so deep in and dark in the water that it was impossible to see. In fact, it made him feel disoriented and confused. He could literally not see his hand in front of his face. It got to the point where he didn’t know which way was up. The interviewer asked him what he did in times like that. He said, “I feel the bubbles. When its pitch black and I have no idea which way to go, I reach up with my hand and feel the bubbles. The bubbles always drift up to the surface. When I can’t trust my feelings or judgment, I know I can always trust the bub-bles to get me back to the top.” The Bible does that for those who are followers of Jesus. It is unchanging truth that tells us what is real and tells us which way to go when we are lost or confused. These are very confus-ing days but God has given us His truth in His Word. It is the place where you will find comfort in all this confusion. Spend some time daily reading God’s Word and experience the peace that He offers us.

Sunday Morning Worship Services Dear Ones,
Our attendance continues to rise in our Sunday morning services. We have about 25-30 people in the 8:30 service and about 50 people in our 10:45 service. We are allowed to use 50% of our seating capacity. We ask that people wear masks when they enter and exit the building but once you find your seat you can remove your mask because of physical distancing. When we sing songs we ask you to wear the mask. We have had new visitors almost weekly and some are planning to make this their church home. We are doing all that we can to keep you safe. If you have not been back yet, please consider trying it for one week. The bottom line is we miss you when you are not here. If you need a ride to church let us know. We will begin our van minis-try as it is needed. We want to assure you that the services will continue online for those who are watching at home. Blessings on You! Pastor Frank
World Communion Offering Oct. 3-4
On October 3 & 4, we will gather together to receive Holy Com-munion with Christians around the world. This special commun-ion helps us to remember that we are all connected by the blood of Jesus Christ. He did not
die for some of us; but for all of us.
We take time to reflect that the church has one mission – our mission is to love others and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the ways we live out this mission is to empower others to share the Gospel by nurturing their education.
United Methodist congregations join together to receive a special offering to help international and national students reach their full potential through scholarships, training and mentoring.
Special offering envelopes will be provided in the Saturday evening and Sunday morning bul-letins.

Building Committee News Dedication Weekend Oct. 17th-18th
We will dedicate our newly ren-ovated Community Building on October 17th-18th with a por-tion of each service over the weekend devoted to the dedica-tion and a special emphasis giv-en at the 10:45 service Sunday,
October 18. Former pastors and wives have been invited. An Open House will then be held from 12-5pm on Sunday for members of the congregation and the community to tour the Community Build-ing and the Fellowship Hall at their convenience and to allow individuals and small groups to walk through without fear of crowding. Masks are ex-pected to be worn. Slides will be shown continu-ously on the various electronic screens throughout the building depicting the various stages of demo-lition and construction as we progressed from commencement in August 2019 to completion in June 2020.
A commemorative Dedication Booklet is being created by the Worship Committee for the occa-sion and the Circle of Ruth is providing light re-freshments for the Open House. The members of the Capital Campaign Committee and the Building Committee will be recognized in the booklet for their long hours and hard work that fueled our pro-ject’s success. We are so blessed to have these dedicated people as part of our church. Of course, we must thank you, the contributing members, for your extreme generosity in supporting this cam-paign with your personal donations and pledges. It is only through these efforts that we are able to dedicate this new $1.4 M renovation debt-free. Thank you all, it was our pleasure to serve as co-chairmen.
The only remaining work to be accomplished in October is the Lounge Kitchen, which is expected to be completed by the dedication, except for pos-sibly the granite countertops. The kitchen will nonetheless be open for tours.
We hope this building will be well-used by all or-ganizations that strive to improve the quality of life in the Ligonier Valley even as we strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ to all who visit us. May it be a beacon in the community for many genera-tions to come. The Building Committee Co-Chairmen: Ron Wagner and Tom Shearer

Celebration of Life Service
for John Dominick October 23rd
All are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life Service remembering John Dominick, who passed away May 5th, 2020. Due to Covid re-strictions, a private memorial and burial was held at that time and now we want to in-vite our friends and family to celebrate his life on Friday,
October 23rd, 11 am in the Heritage sanctuary. Looking forward to seeing you, Susan Dominick
Heritage Sponsoring Blood Drive
American Red Cross blood drive on October 23rd. Do-nations will be received from 2 to 7 PM in the Fel-lowship Hall. Whole blood and Power Red donations are being taken.
Schedule an appointment on line at www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767 today. It only takes 15 minutes to make a life sustaining donation.
Nationally, we are in a critical blood short-age!!!! We have had members and friends who have used many units of blood and/or plasma during their time of illness. This is an opportunity for our church to show appreci-ation for and to pay back the gift of life or additional time, given to our members. We never know when we ourselves will need the use of whole blood in our time of need, just like John, Joan Kistler, Ron Bash and others. Please help by donating in memory or honor of our dear church family.
PRAYER BOX ADDED
A drive-through prayer box has been installed in the alley. Prayer re-quests can be dropped off there and we will collect them daily and place them in our pray-er room. The box is not just for the mem-bers of the church. It is for the whole communi-ty. Spread the good news about the drive-through prayer box with your friends. It is just one of the ways we want to show kindness to the people of the community.
And a reminder that the Prayer Room is available during office hours and anytime the church is open.

Moms Helping Moms Diaper Drive
The coronavirus has caused increased unemploy-ment and poverty. Many mothers living in poverty cannot afford to purchase an adequate supply of dia-pers for their infants or toddlers. Some must choose whether to buy diapers or food or medications. This is further complicated by the fact that diapers cannot be purchased with food stamps or WIC.
An inadequate supply raises health concerns for the little ones. Furthermore, it makes it very difficult for a parent to work because most daycares require the parents to provide an adequate supply of dispos-able diapers.
The Western PA Diaper Bank is the only regional nonprofit organization focused solely on the distri-bution of diapers to families of low-income or pov-erty level Westmoreland and surrounding counties. Community diaper drives are essential to supply an adequate number of diapers.
Heritage Church will hold a diaper drive throughout the month of October. We will be collecting pack-ages of disposable diapers (any size, any brand) and/or wipes to help supply the emergency. A receptacle is located at the top of the stairwell to receive your donations.
Ben and Mona are Back! Ben & Mona McKee are back in Ligonier! They are now residing at the Ligonier Gardens and would love to hear from you! They will be under quarantine until the week of October 4th, but after that they would LOVE a visit! Call the activity di-rector, Amanda, at 724-238-3517, to schedule a visit on Tuesdays or Thursdays beginning October 6th. Welcome home, Ben & Mona!
It’s Almost Mitten Tree Time!
Just a reminder that items for the Mitten Tree will be need-ed soon, so please start col-lecting them. Hats, gloves, mittens and scarves will be collected through the first week of December then do-
nated to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need. Thanks!
Our condolences to the family and friends of Joan Kistler, who passed away on Sep-tember 3rd.
Blessing of the Pets Oct. 18th St. Michael’s of the Valley and St. James Evangeli-cal Lutheran Churches invite you and your pet (or a picture) to a pet blessing on Sunday, October 18th at 1 pm in Mellon Park. A good-will offering will be taken to benefit Action for Animals and
Healthy Hearts and Healing Tails Animal Rescue. To ensure the well-being of all participants, pets must be on a leash or in a pet carrier.
Thank You Notes Received Dear Chuck and the Missions Committee,
Thank you for your continued support. Your generous do-nation [$1000.00 to Clean Water Kenya] will help bring clean water to 40 more fami-lies for the next 5 years. Our next distribution will be in November.
Sincerely, Ken & Judy Clark CWK Cofounders
To the People of Heritage UMC,
I want to personally congratulate and thank your congregation for demonstrating your faithfulness to our United Methodist connection by paying 100% of your apportionment covenant in 2019. By fulfilling your commitment, the WPAUMC again was able to pay 100% of our jurisdictional and general church ministry shares. Through sacrifice and commitment, with God’s grace, our annual conference makes a difference in people’s lives and demonstrates Jesus’ love locally and around the world.
Blessings, Cynthia Moore-Koikoi
