Description: The state of California requires sexual harassment training for all supervisory employees. Studies estimate one in four women will experience sexual harassment on the job. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that even if an employer is unaware of sexual harassment taking place the employer’s liability remains. All companies that don’t train their managers on sexual harassment are subject to lawsuits and other liabilities. You will learn how to define, recognize and prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. While it may be impossible to completely prevent harassment and discrimination claims and lawsuits, this course can help minimize potential workplace conflicts and complaints before they arise which will help reduce your companies liability exposure.

Santa Rita Unified School District is seeking submission of proposals from interested firms that are capable of, among other things, providing thermostats that are capable of web-based monitoring, central control, and can supply lifetime license for use of a web-baseduser interface. This will enable the District to more efficiently manage the usage of its HVAC systems, leading to significant energyand operating costs.
In addition, the system should be operable during any outage event – in conjunction with the District’s solar + storage energy back-upsystem. While in “battery-backup mode” the District will utilize the Energy Management System to curtail HVAC energy consumptionby adjusting the thermostat settings from the web-portal.

Yes, no and sometimes a maybe. Answering questions about the complex law and interpretations of it in the real world is why it’s often hard for contractors to know what’s what; yes, no or maybe! Getting it wrong can be costly, and why we always welcome your questions…
Q: We are replacing our Qualifying Individual in Nevada. He only qualifies the Business portion of the license. Does he still need to get the four references completed?
A: No, only Trade Qualifiers are required to obtain references and complete a resume.
Q: We are a non-profit organization that builds dirt trails. Are we required to have a Contractor’s License and is the process any different for nonprofits? Would a “C-27” (Landscaping) license work for this?
A: Yes, you are required to have a Contractor’s License to build dirt trails. The most appropriate license would be either the “A” (General Engineering) classification, or the “C-12” (Earthwork and Paving) classification. The “C-27” classification would not cover you for the engineering involved in building the trails.
Q: I completed an application in mid-July of last year and then we got busy and I never did anything with it. I still have it with original signatures. Can I submit this with dates from last year or will I need to get a new Certification page and everything? I noticed the CSLB released new applications late last year.
A: Maybe, before deadlines. You may want to update the dates on the application, but the CSLB will currently still accept the old forms. However, effective May 1, 2017, the CSLB will no longer
accept older forms. All applications submitted after May 1st are required to have a revision date of October 2016 (or later) reflected in the bottom left corner.
Also, the sooner you get it submitted the better, because effective July 1, 2017, the CSLB’s fees are going to increase. For example, the current license/application fee will be increased from $480 to $530.
Q: I have a “C-10” (Electrical) Contractor who wants to work with my corporation. He wants to still work with his licensed Sole Proprietorship while he works with me as a Responsible Managing Officer (RMO). Is this possible? How can we structure it so he can Qualify my corporation for a “C-10” license while he still has an Active Sole Proprietor?
A: Yes.” The “C-10” Contractor would be required to have at least 20% ownership in your corporation in order for your scenario to work out. Also recommend checking with a tax and legal advisor in this choice.
While knowledge is power, knowing where to go for the answers is half the battle. Get expert assistance immediately when you call 866-443-0657, email [email protected], or write us at Capitol Services, Inc., 1225 8th St. Ste. 500, Sacramento, CA 95814. Research past columns at www.cutredtape.com.#

Safety Tip of the WeekPOWDER-ACTUATED TOOLS
Hilti, Ramset, and Red Head are just a few of the manufacturers of powder-actuated tools. These tools are designed to fire a special nail or fastening device into concrete, steel and masonry using a small caliber charge as a firing device. [See 1926.302(e)]
The number one safety rule to remember is - only property trained and qualified operators should ever use powder-actuated tools. Users should possess 'Qualified Operations Cards' which, after thorough training, are issued by a particular manufacturer's authorized dealer or distributor or other competent source.
When using the tool it must be held firmly against and perpendicular to the surface into which the fastening device is being driven. Never shoot into a blind surface. Take the necessary time to check the other side. Many innocent construction workers have been injured, and some even killed, from being struck by a wayward fastening device which ricocheted off or went completely through the target.
Personal protective equipment must be worn by the operator, and the face should be protected if there is any danger of spallingmaterials. Check with your supervisor on the type of safety goggles required. [See 1926.102 Table E-1 I
All powder-actuated tools must be tested daily - before use - and all defects discovered before or during use must be corrected. Tools must not be loaded until immediately before use. Loaded tools must not be left unattended. Keep hands clear of the muzzle end.Powder-actuated tools should never be stored or used in explosive atmospheres.
When you are through using a powder-actuated tool, unload it and dispose of firing rounds property; never leave them laying around. For proper training check with your powder-actuated vendor, who will often come to the work site and conduct a safety class. Finally, if you are not qualified to use the tool, don't!
Powder-actuated tools should never be pointed at anyone whether the tool is loaded or not!
