Maple Valley Ag 4-H club from Alta sponsors the Pumpkin Hollow Pumpkin patch each year in October. The Pumpkin Hollow is open on

Saturdays and Sundays in October starting on October 4th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

When visiting you will:

receive a hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick your special pumpkin.

see pumpkins growing on the vine in a two acre patch.

pet a few small animals, weather permitting.

Maple Valley Ag 4-H club uses the funds raised to help our local community by donating and working at the Lord’s Cupboard in Alta, scrap-

ing and painting at the Hanover Historical Village, care packages to servicemen overseas, planting trees at the BV County fair grounds and

Alta Elementary School, painting picnic tables at the Alta City Park, planting flowers at the city ball field, purchasing trophies for county fair

youth, donating to 4-H camps and trips and to Iowa 4-H Foundation, and many others, every year.

Located from Alta, 2 miles north on M31 (50th Avenue) and 1/2 mile west on gravel (560th Street). Watch for the pumpkin signs.

There is also an annual Pumpkin Hollow Coloring contest poster. Prizes: two bikes! Bring the colored poster when you visit or take the post-

er home and mail it back when colored.

Multi-region New Volunteer Training is designed for new 4-H Leaders

committing to a long-term experience working with 4-H youth in club,

project, Clover Kids—both leaders and assistants.

Volunteers committing to these roles are required to attend a multi-

region new volunteer leader training within the first 12 months of being

screened and approved as a 4-H Leader.

2014 DuPont Pioneer Grant

Annual 4-H Awards & Recognition Program

2014-15 DuPont Pioneer Grant Information and Fall Applications Available!

The Iowa 4-H Foundation was able to secure funding for the Iowa 4-H program to continue DuPont Pioneer Seed

Grants for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. The objective of these grants is to stimulate local 4-H clubs in Iowa to plan

and carry out community improvement activities by providing “seed money” needed to make the projects success-

ful. Awards are given from $50 to $500 per club projects. Requested funds should not be more than half the cost of

Applications and support letters for fall 2014 grants are due in the Buena Vista County Extension office by

October 15, 2014.

All 4-H’ers and their families are invited!

4-H’ers will receive their awards from the 2013-2014 year and have a club photo taken.

New members for the 2014-2015 year are encouraged to attend and celebrate with their new club

and be included in the club photo.

Some 44 4-H’ers completed their record books, which are being reviewed by the Buena Vista

County 4-H Youth Development Committee for project awards. This represents 60 project award

applications!

The 4-H Youth Development Committee will honor a Business of the Year and Hall of Fame

award recipients.

Several members are being considered for the Outstanding Junior recognition.

Intermediate and Senior 4 H’ers completed applications for recognition and cash awards.

Master Producer awards will be selected for Swine, Sheep and Beef with cash awards.

Buena Vista County Youth Council members are in charge of the program.

Providence Go-Getters Club will be the Hosting Club and providing decorations.

Citizenship Washington Focus 2015

4-H Online Enrollment

WASHINGTON FOCUS TRIP

ENROLLMENT

Citizenship Washington Focus 2015 is a nine-day trip for 4-H youth in grades 9-12 which provides a setting to ex-perience both leadership and citizenship in an up-close, unique way at the National 4-H Center. Youth who have participated in previous trips reported CWF as the single most educational highlight of their 4-H career. The 2015 trip will take place June 5-13. Members of 4-H and adult chaperones will travel by chartered bus to Washington D.C.

Trip highlights: Flight 93 Memorial, Gettysburg Battlefield, Mount Vernon, Iwo Jima Memorial, Nightview of Wash-ington D.C., Arlington National Cemetary, FDR Memorial, Capitol Hill, Union Station, Air Force Memorial or Twilight Tattoo, National Cathedral or Smithsonian Zoo, Theatre Productions, National Mall, Smithsonian Museum and Hol-ocaust Museum.

The trip fee is $1,550. This includes lodging, transportation, tour site admissions and most meals. Registration and a $490 deposit will be required to secure a spot. Registration is now open and closes November 15, 2014.

4-H members may enroll online beginning September 15th at https://wa.4honline.com . All re-enrollments and

new 4-H’ers must be completed online...it’s easy! Directions can be found here:

Enrollment Challenge There will be two different 4-H enrollment challenges this year.

1. November 15-The 4-H club with the biggest percentage of families re-enrolled online by November 15th

will receive an ice cream party!

2. December 1-The club with the biggest percentage of NEW 4-H’ers joining by December 1st will enjoy a

pizza party!
