Budget Simulation Assignment FRIT 7132 Cynthia Johnson Rationale of Priority List Carver Elementary budget priority is to acquire funds to purchase print and non-print materials, technology equipment and software that support our school curriculum, the “Basic School” curriculum, our school mission statement, our media center mission statement, and the Jefferson County Public Schools Mission. In the last five years Carver received grant money from the community in schools and purchased quite an amount of technology. There is at least one Activboard in first grade, two in fourth grades, and one in fifth grades. The second and third grades have not received one yet. To assess our needs, I asked each grade coordinator to complete Carver’s Needs Assessment survey. Each teacher responded that an Activboard is needed in the second and third grades so that students in all grades will be familiar with them. I interviewed at least 2 students from each grade to see if they knew of any technology needed for their school. The students were not sure what was needed, they thought everything was fine, they did state that they enjoyed when the teachers used the Activboard, because it was like looking at television. Also this summer the technology coordinator purchased two document cameras for each school and as media specialist, I feel that there is a need for more document cameras to enhance instruction in the classroom as well as the media. Though our school is small, we own a decent amount of technology, but there is always room to keep up in the 21 st century. After much searching and calling for prices of Activboards the prioritize list had to be revamped. Due to budget cuts we were informed that we need to wait to try to purchase Activboards. The document cameras are another tool that can help students with visual learning. I went back to

Rationale of Priority ListCarver Elementary budget priority is to acquire funds to purchase print and non-print materials, technology equipment and software that support our school curriculum, the Basic School curriculum, our school mission statement, our media center mission statement, and the Jefferson County Public Schools Mission.

In the last five years Carver received grant money from the community in schools and purchased quite an amount of technology. There is at least one Activboard in first grade, two in fourth grades, and one in fifth grades. The second and third grades have not received one yet. To assess our needs, I asked each grade coordinator to complete Carvers Needs Assessment survey. Though our school is small, we own a decent amount of technology, but there is always room to keep up in the 21st century. After much searching and calling for prices of Activboards the prioritize list had to be revamped. Due to budget cuts we were informed that we need to wait to try to purchase Activboards. The document cameras are another tool that can help students with visual learning. I went back to the faculty and address the prioritized list and they simultaneously agreed to purchase document cameras and projectors. In this 21st century, 3,500.00 is not much, but it is enough to increase what we have. I recommended to the principal that we order three document cameras and three LCD projectorsUpon receiving $3,500.00 to purchase technology that will support both classroom instruction and the school media center program, the prioritized list for Carver Elementary technology budget is below:

Prioritized List Three Document cameras

Three LCD Projectors

The first priority is to purchase three Elmo document cameras like the two we already have.

The budget simulation provides information to use in justifying ordering various technologies. The faculty provided information based on their answers on the needs assessment form. Students basically do not worry what is used to teach; just that they enjoy whatever is being used. I recommended to the principal that the above technical hardware be purchased for second and third grades until an activboard can be purchased. The items above will not be unusable because they can also be used with an activboard for classroom instruction. Carver MEDIA/TECH NEEDS ASSESSMENT
