Yes, we heard their footsteps thunderIn the watches of the nightBodhgaya 7. And we saw their banners wavingBy their torches' flaring lightBodhgaya 8. And the stirring songs they shoutedFilled our hearts with strange delightSarnath 9. Yes, we heard their footsteps thunderIn the watches of the nightSarnath 10. Sarnath It was sad to see them marchingTo some battlefield of pain, 11. There to leave their youthful bodies Mid the fallen and the slainKusinara 12. For no earthly king or monarchDo they march to meet the fightVesali 19. But to spread the Buddha's TeachingIn the darkness of our nightRajgir 20.
