A message from Mrs Brown

It has been a really great week of learning at Buckton Vale with all our children who have returned to school this week. School has started to feel like it is returning to some element of normality and we have all really enjoyed spending time with the children. We are also looking forward to welcoming children back for their special goodbye day during the last week of term.

Teachers have been busy writing your child’s end of year report. These will be given out on the day your child returns to school with their books. If you choose not to send your child in to school for their goodbye day, please don’t worry, you can collect work your child’s report after school on the day their bubble has been invited in. It would be helpful for us to know you plan to collect books and reports so we can ensure they are ready at the office area. Any not collected will be stored for distribution in September.

Uniform Expectations for September 2020 The children will be wearing school uniform as normal when they return in September so we have included a reminder of our school uniform expectations. We are providing this reminder so everyone can comply with our uniform policy. School Uniform

It is very important your child has only a small rucksack due to the size of our lockers. Physical Education

Health and Safety regarding jewellery Ear-rings are not permitted for health and safety reasons. We appreciate that children may have been treated to having their ears pierced over the summer break; these must be removed prior to returning to school. Children should also not return to school with inappropriate hairstyles, including patterns shaved into their hair and/or hair dyed in a bright/unnatural colour.

Summer Learning A number of parents have asked if resources will be available over the summer break. We will not be setting any work but it would be extremely helpful for your child to continue to use TT Rock Stars and Numbots. Times tables and number bonds underpin a lot of maths understanding and these programmes are great ways to help support your child’s learning. Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize will also continue to provide interactive learning opportunities during the summer break.

Sharing ‘In-school’ learning Reception children practised their observation and listening skills following a step by step instructions on how to draw a picture of Olaf from Disney's Frozen. Mr Phoenix was so proud of them he wanted to share with you all.

The Year 1 children have been designing street furniture this week. They wrote about which materials they might use if they made them. Meanwhile, the Y6 children have started their high school transition work in English, Maths and Spanish. They have all been working very hard! In the afternoons, we have been doing some South American arts and crafts. Incan soap carvings and sewing llamas, to name a couple! Don't they look wonderful?

Sharing home learning & achievements

Thomas wanted to show you his puppet idea as it’s for science; he wanted to do a scientist in his lab. Mum helped with the cutting out but he drew it all and created it all himself. We think it is brilliant. Well done Thomas!

Jack from KS1 wanted you to see his work as he did some great planning last week to get his newspaper report ready. He now wants to photocopy it and sell it for £1! Ha ha!! He has really enjoyed this topic about Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks. Jack has also done really well through this time and embraced all learning sent. He has even been challenging himself by completing year 3 work for RWI on Oxford Owl and getting them all correct. What a superstar. He was sent a certificate for his hard work from Mrs Brown who was thrilled to see his work.

More History work on the Blue Plaques which the Year 3s & Year 4s were asked to complete… Erin did her research on the Blue Plaques and learnt that Blue plaques are put on buildings when people who do

amazing things die. They can be found all over the United Kingdom. Blue plaques are also

put on buildings to remember historical events too. For historical events, blue plaques

are usually put on the buildings where they happened.

George Lawton has a Blue plaque, when his Dad died, he inherited

a fortune. In his will, he left it to the people of Mossley and the

town he loved so dearly. With the

money, a hall was built and the people

named it The George Lawton Hall.

Joseph sent in his Blue Plaque PowerPoint. He thoroughly enjoyed this history work on ‘Joey’ Nuttal from Tameside. He found out that Joey won his first swimming race when he was only 9 and won 14 world titles! Our Joseph went to find Joey Nuttal’s blue plaque and it is at the old Stalybridge Swimming Baths.

Grace worked so hard on her blue plaque history project. Mum and Grace have visited the L.S Lowry house in Mottram. Grace spent time sketching the house. She they continued doing all the research, printing and cutting out herself. She has created a very informative and decorative poster that she wanted to share. We are all so proud of her!

Teddy’s blue plaque project was welcomed by his teacher and he was sent a certificate for his hard work. He chose to do the Ladysmith Barracks as his grandpa has a connection with the site and was able to tell him what it used to look like inside.

Here is Alfie showing off his project. He has copied the Blue Plaque he chose to research, and has made his own replica! He has also written all about John Bradbury in his English book, from information he found on Tameside Councils website. The Blue Plaque Project has definitely been a success – well done everyone for making such an effort with it.

Birthday Wishes

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU….. We have heard that one of our young ladies will be 6 year s old tomorrow! Mrs Brown and the staff at Buckton Vale would like to wish Emily H a very Happy 6th Birthday. We hope you enhjoy your special day and that it’s filled with lots of surpirises for you. We have also had a lot of special Lockdown birthday’s in our stafffing team. This week we said Happy 60th Birthday to Mrs Roberts in the office, Happy 50th Birthday

to Mrs Metcalfe and Happy 40th Birthday to Mrs Harrison. We hope they all have a fabulous weekend celebrating. Nell, sent in some more jokes to share with you to make you smile: Q: What was the snail doing on the motorway? A: A couple of miles a week! Q: What music do mummies listen to? A: Ragtime and wrap!
