Success can be defined in many different ways; regardless of the definition, dedication, determination, and hard work are important factors in achieving success. Rachel Clymire is a great example of what hard work and dedication can achieve. Rachel's positive attitude and work ethic have been an inspiration to the staff and other students at the Youth Center. Rachel started at the Youth Center in March 2012, and in just one month, she was able to obtain a job at Ross, complete the Student Leadership Curriculum, and pass the GED with near perfect scores in the reading, writing and science sections! She also took the WorkKeys® Assessment where she received a “gold level”; an individual achieving gold level possesses core employability skills for approximately 90% of jobs. Rachel says that the Bucks County CareerLink® Youth Center has helped her open many doors to opportunities by providing her with assistance with career planning, college tours, financial aid, life skills, academic instruction, and work experience. Passing her GED test is just the first step for Rachel. Recently she applied to Bucks County Community College and plans to attend classes in the fall of 2012. Rachel will be pursuing a degree in the medical field leading to her ultimate goal of one day becoming a veterinarian. Rachel’s participation in the Youth Center has allowed her to inspire and educate other participants in the program to stay focused and work hard in order to achieve their goals.

Career Week at the Bucks County PA CareerLink® Youth Center

The week of March 19th-23rd, the Youth

Center held their annual Career Awareness

Week. Prior to the event, youth participants

were surveyed on what industries they

were interested in and would like to pursue.

The industries ranged from Science and IT

to Cosmetology and Manufacturing.

Representatives spoke to youth about their

industry, the job, and their own personal

career path. Some of the companies that

participated this year were: Johnson &

Johnson, Phillips Corporation for

Engineering and Manufacturing,

Automotive Training Center, Bucks County

Courier Times, and Sanofi Pasteur (the

largest company in the world devoted

exclusively to human vaccines).

Youth listened to a 30 minute presentation from a representative from an industry of their choice.

Annual Career Week has changed to bi-annual as of this year.
