BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Act 102 of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, which created In-termediate Units on May 4, 1970, provides that the Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit shall have a Board of Directors composed of one Director from each of the 13 Bucks County school districts. The Intermediate Unit Board of Directors meets the third Tuesday of each month in the Intermediate Unit Offices, 705 North Shady Retreat Road, Doylestown, Pennsylvania 18901.

Members of the Legislative Council meet monthly in the Intermediate Unit Offices in order to review and to discuss legislation which affects education. The function of the Council is to recommend the preparation and passage of legislation which will promote quality education. The Council includes one school director from each of the 13 school districts in Bucks County and one representative from the IU Board.

DIVISIONS OPERATING IN THE BUCKS COUNTY SCHOOLS INTERMEDIATE UNIT # 22

DIVISIONS AND FUNCTIONS

The Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit No. 22 is a regional educational service organization which is the middle echelon of a three-level system of education in Pennsylvania - the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Intermediate Unit and the local school districts. The Intermediate Unit provides those programs and services which can most effectively and economically be offered on a regional rather than a local basis. The Intermediate Unit employs over 1,400 people who serve the schools and students of Bucks County. Educational support is administered by three Divisions of the Intermediate Unit. The Divisions are:

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES This Division is responsible for overall policy and administration of the Intermediate Unit, determining personnel functions, administering budgets, and providing communication to schools and the community. The Administrative Services Division acts as liaison to district super-intendents, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the State Board of Education, and the General Assembly. The Administrative Services Division also provides leadership and management training, executive searches, consultative services to the districts in areas such as budget analysis, salary comparisons, personnel procurement, computerized substitute calling, cooperative purchasing, and strategic planning. The Intermediate Unit also provides printing and computer repair services for local school districts.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES DIVISION The Programs and Services Division promotes and provides innova-tion in teaching and learning. The division works with school districts, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, researchers, and educational leaders to provide professional education, technical assistance, and forums for collaboration. The Instructional Materials and Technology Department provides leadership in 21st Century information and technology services to the educators and school districts of Bucks County. The department special-izes in the provision of digital resources, technology infrastructure and network management, technical support, library and research services, and instructional technology initiatives.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES The Special Education Division staff administers and coordinates all special education programs for the Intermediate Unit and acts as liaison to school district personnel on special education matters. This division also keeps special educators apprised of changes mandated by regulation, legislation, and litigation. Three-fourths of the Intermediate Unit staff are employed by the Special Education Division. This staff provides direct services for a variety of exceptionalities to over 9,000 students in the County's 13 school districts and Charter Schools.

FROM QUAKERTOWN AREA: Use Rt. 313 East to the 611 South bypass. Take to the Broad Street exit, turn left off the exit ramp. The fi rst street on the right is Shady Retreat Road. Turn right and the IU is on the left.

FROM LOWER BUCKS AREA: Use Rt. 313 West into Doylestown. Continue through intersection at Rt. 611 and 313 traveling through the stop light to the 611 Bypass South- turn left onto the bypass. Take the fi rst exit at Broad Street and turn left. The fi rst street to the right is Shady Retreat Road; turn right and the IU is on the left.

FROM THE MONTGOMERYVILLE, NEW BRITAIN, CHALFONT AREA: Use Rt. 202 North to the Rt. 611 Bypass North. Take the Broad Street exit and turn right onto Broad Street then right onto Shady Retreat Road. The IU is on the left.

FROM THE WARRINGTON, WILLOW GROVE AREA: Take Rt. 611 North to the 611 bypass in Doylestown (bear left) and proceed to the Broad Street exit; turn right onto Broad Street then right onto Shady Retreat Road. The IU is on the left.

FROM HARRISBURG AREA: Take PA Turnpike East to the Willow Grove exit; take Rt. 611 North to Doylestown bypass (bear left) and proceed to the Broad Street exit; turn right onto Broad Street then right onto Shady Retreat Road. The IU is on the left.

FROM PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT: Take I-95 north to Rt. 332 west (Newtown), to Rt. 413 north, to Rt. 202 south; turn right onto Rt. 313 west and follow through several stop lights (about 4), cross over Rt. 611 and another light (Thompson Toyota is on left) - stay to your left after the light and turn left onto the Rt. 611 bypass; get off at the fi rst exit and turn left onto Broad Street; the fi rst street over the bridge is Shady Retreat Road, turn right and we are the building on the left.

FROM NEW JERSEY: Take NJ Turnpike to PA Turnpike to Rt. 611 (Willow Grove exit) north. (Or take Rt. 95 to the Newtown exit.)
