➜ Bucks Fact: Over the last 50 years, Bucks has educated more than one million people.BUCKS

Bucks is a Smart Choice…Affordable: At Bucks, you receive a valuable education for a fraction of the cost of a four-year institution. The amount you save in your first two years at Bucks is often enough to pay for your third year if transferring to a four-year college or university.

Practical: Bucks offers nearly 80 programs of traditional and trending fields of study that lead to either an associate degree or certificate including 35 transfer programs. Many programs of study provide hands-on experience in your chosen career.

Personalized: The typical class size at Bucks is 18 to 25 students, which allows for more individual attention. In addition, all credit students are assigned an academic advisor who assists you in making the best choices to meet your educational goals.

Convenient: Bucks has three campus-es conveniently located throughout the county: a 200-acre Newtown Campus, Lower Bucks Campus in Bristol and Upper Bucks Campus in Perkasie as well as a Virtual Campus offering more than 250 courses, 17 programs of study and 3 certificates online.

Proven: During its 50-plus-year history, Bucks has educated more than one million people. And 95 percent of Bucks students surveyed would recommend the college to their friends and family.

Bucks faculty: All of whom hold a master’s degree or higher—are profession-al, accomplished and accessible. Many are outstanding practitioners in their field of study, and a number have been recipients of the Lindback Teaching Award and the U.S. Professor of the Year Award.

BUCKS:A Wise Investment in Yourself

Careers can start or change at any time—after graduating high school, raising children, losing a job, changing marital status, retiring from full-time work or discovering a new passion.

Higher education

typically means

higher earnings

as well as greater

job and life

satisfaction.

“Do something

you love, and you’ll

never work a day

in your life” is an

oft-quoted truism.

ARTS

The Communication Studies transfer major allows you to explore various subjects within the communication field—speech communication, theater, video production, journalism, public relations, mass communication, advertising and marketing, and film—without immediately committing to any one area of concentration.

The Hicks Art Center Gallery provides a varied series of curated art exhibitions and related programming in support of the Arts Department, and is an important educational

and cultural resource for the community.

Bucks hosts year-round community cultural programs for the entire family—music concerts, improv comedy, theater, film festivals and literary readings. Visit bucks.edu/cultural or call 215.968.8087.

Invest in one of the college’s STEM programs—Biology, Biotechnolo-gy, Chemistry, Computer Hardware Installation and Maintenance, Computer Networking Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Neuroscience or Secondary Education Biology—to secure work in diverse fields such as education, technology, communications, medicine, weather forecasting or military defense.

The Neuroscience transfer major at Bucks is one of the first in the country at a two-year institution. This transfer degree is excellent preparation not only for medical school, but also for various employ-ment opportunities in the fields of health care communications, scientific research, education and pharmaceuticals.

Bucks received a nearly $350,000 grant in 2015 from the National Science Foundation to build a dedicated high-speed data network to support science and technology research and education. Bucks is the first community college to be awarded such a grant.

In March 2016, a team of three Bucks STEM students earned the distinction of being one of 10 finalists in the nation-wide Second Annual Community College Innovation Challenge. The Bucks team developed an alternative energy solution they named the Wind Catcher Max Wind Tower that recycles water.

Chelsea Karacz ’13 enrolled as a biology

major at Bucks im-mediately after gradu-

ating high school. That first year, online classes allowed her to travel while continu-

ing her education. After Bucks added a degree program in biotechnology,

she transitioned to on-campus courses.

Bucks prerequi-sites allowed her to transfer to Thomas

Jefferson University and use many new

laboratory techniques on her path to the

biomedical research field. “After coming

to Jefferson, I realized how ahead of the

game I was in the lab, already having had previous hands-on

experience at Bucks.”

Bucks enjoys a strong reputation in the STEM field, and one that will be further enhanced when a new, two-story, 34,700-square-foot science building, including 11 labs, is completed this year.
