The Property Management and Engineering staff has been hard at work finding ways to reduce the building’s consumption of electricity and water, without affecting your tenant experience. As a part of our public commitment to sustainability, Buckhead Tower is pursuing a LEED for Existing Building certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an international program that certifies buildings for their green designs, operating procedures, and energy efficiency. The certification program is run by the US Green Building Council. Buckhead Tower is currently pursuing a LEED Gold award. What does that mean for our tenants? This certification process should not inconvenience you in any way, but there are a few things that you can participate in to help us. (1) Alternative Commuting is a credit with a large number of points available. Have you considered carpooling? Taking MARTA? Maybe you already participate in a “green” commute, but if not, we would encourage you to try it out during the week of August 12 – 16. The more people that clean commute that week, the more points we get! (2) The recycling program has been updated recently, and you may have noticed some new boxes and bins in your suites. The recycling protocol is described on the 2nd page of this newsletter below. (3) Surveys are an important way for us to document your participation during the certification process. On August 16th, we will be hosting a tenant breakfast event to celebrate our progress towards LEED Gold, and asking you to take 2 surveys: how did you commute to work during August 12th-16th, and how comfortable do you find your office setting in terms of temperature, lighting, noise, etc. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress and to a successful LEED Gold application!
