Valve design features
• Double-D-fit of two pieces of non-pin stem connected with disc, a
more compact and strong structure, can produce 4-way self-adjusting
centralization thanks to its unique design and can optimize & minimize
• Innovative double supports of trench seat can ensure positive assembly
among the valve body, seat and disc, and can keep rotation of disc smooth
-going consistently and can minimize compressional deformation and seat
brushing off.
• Three anti-corrosion RPTFE (Reinforced Poly Tetra Fluoro Ethylene),
EPDM O ring (made of Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer) and stainless
steel stem circlip completely isolate flow media from top flange,
synchronize rotation between stem and disc, decrease operation torque
To satisfy higher IP requirement and large size butterfly automation, Belimo offers SY..series Rotary Actuators which are designed to mate with the BU6..series Butterfly Valves and other quarter-turnvalve applications.
SY.. Actuator design features
• The patented gear drive mechanism provides efficient, smoothoperation while allowing easy manual override at any time.
• With IP67 rating, easily visible position indicator, internationalstandard ISO 5211 mounting system, internal thermal motor overload protection, heater, two auxiliary switches and easily accessible wiring termination points.
• The units are easily visible in mechanical rooms with their characteristic Belimo orange color. Wiring diagrams includedin all printed documentation are also affixed to the outside of the housing on the permanently attached product label.
• The torque ranges are available from 35...3500Nm.
Actuators designed for BU6.. valves
Belimo SRFU..-5, SRVU..-5, GRVU.. -5/-7, DGRVU.. series Rotary Actuators use the best possible electric motors and gearings and also employ highly sophisticated electronics for the control. The universal product design makes installation, operation and service much easier.
1. Gearbox with hardened planetary gear.
2. Two stop screws for limiting of manual operation.
3. Handwheel that acts directly on the planetary gear.
4. Motor protected by a thermostat.
5. Terminals.
6. Two limit switches and two auxiliary switches.
7. Housing made of cast aluminum (IP67).
8. 4xM5 hexagonal screws for cover of housing.
9. Sight glass for position indicator (rotary cylinder).
1. Mounting flange according to ISO 5211.
2. Square stem head for form-fit attachment of the Rotary Actuator.
3. Stem with EPDM O-ring seal.

5. Full series of valve body made of ductile cast iron (DN50...500).

Belimo BU6..series Butterfly Valves are designed to meet the stringent needs of HVAC applications requiring positive shut-off for liquids.

Manual operation
The Butterfly Valve is operated by a Non-spring Return Rotary Actuator, Fail-Safe Mechanical Rotary Actuators or SYLarge Torque Multi-function Actuators are available. Select the actuators according to required close-off pressure andHVAC condition of installation. The actuators are controlled by a standard open/close or modulating open/close ormodulating control system and rotate the disc of the valve to the position dictated by the control signal.
The large Kv values provide an economical control valve solution for larger flow applications.
Turn the valve by using a lever or 20mm wrench with the manual button of SRVU..-5 or GRVU..-5/-7 and DGRVU.. actuator pressed. The valve matched with SY Large Torque Multi-function actuator can be operated by can bebe operated by turnning the wheel of SY2...8 or via an 8mm wrench (SY1..).

SRVU-SR-5 is controlled by means of a standard control signal DC 2(0)...10V and travels to the position defined by this signal. The feedback signal U allows the valve position (0...100%) to be electrically indicated and serves as a follow-up control signal for other actuators.
Adjustable angle of rotation with mechanical end stops.
The actuator is overload-proof, requires no limit switches and automatically stops when the end stop is reached.

Manual operation
All actuator control elements are wired to a terminal strip under the main cover. Remove thecover and insert the cables through the cable connector in order to reach the terminal strip.The connectors should be made according to the diagram. Before beginning this procedure, makesure that the power supply voltage is in accordance with the actuator's name plate. After theterminal connections have been made, move the actuator manually to the half-open position andmake a preliminary check of the wiring.

Please turn the VR2 to the end by clockwise direction and input 4mAto modulating board. Then please slightly turn the VR2 by counter-clockwise direction about 3...6 times until the RED light keeps ON.

The cams for adjusting the limit and auxiliary switches are accessible if the cover is removed. The LS2/LS1 limit switches interrupt the power supply to the motor and are controlled by means of the TC.. cams which rotate with the shaft. The LS4/LS3 auxiliary switches can optionally be connected for signalisation purposes. The actuator closes the valve when the shaft turns clockwise (CW) and opens the valve when the shaft turns counter clockwise (CCW).
• TC1- for open position of limit switch (factory setting 90°).
• TC2 - for closed position of limit switch (factory setting 0°).
• TC3 - for open position of auxiliary switch (factory setting 87°).
• TC4 - for closed position of auxiliary switch (factory setting 3°).

The limits of manual operaration is set at -2...92 inthe factory.The override handweel turns the planetary gear by means of a worm wheel. The gear is stopped mechanically by the two stop screws A and B.

• Check power supply befor wiring.• Cover housing immediatedly after wiring and setting and make sure the seal is well. If water or dust enter, dry and clean thoroughly before covering the housing.• The motor can not be reversed and the actuator can not be installed upside down.• Be sure to keep it away from gas; do not use in explosive and chemical district.• Power off before maintenance purpose.• The Open/Close frequency of the electric actuator is restricted according to the duty cycle to avoid overheat.
All actuators are lubricated with anti-high temperature lubricant for a long life and therefore require no special maintenance. The condition of the valve stem and its nut must be checked periodically to make sure they are clean and well lubricated. We recommend that a program of periodic maintenance should be drawn up for actuators that are operated infrequently.
The actuator includes electrical equipment as well as greese lubricated gear stages. Inspite of the weather proof enclosure, oxidation, jamming and other alterations are possible if the acctuator is not correctly stored. The actuator should be stored under a shelter in a clean, dry place and protected from frequent changes in temperature. Avoid placing the actuators directly on the floor. The actuators are equipped with heat resistance, but it’s recommended to connect the actuators to the power supply, especially if the place of the storage is humid. Check that the temporary sealing plug of the cable entries are well in place. Make sure that the covers and boxes are well closed to ensure weather proof sealing.

1. Loosen the corresponding stop screw;2. Loosen the travel cam to be re-adjusted with a 2.5mm hexagonal key; 3. Turn the travel cam clockwise or counter clockwise with the hexagonal key as shown in the right diagram and inital tighten the cam; 4. Check the full rotation of limit switch with power on;5. Tighten the travel cam after successful re-adjustment, otherwise repeat to do point 3 and 4 until the travel cam is sucessfully re-adjusted.6. When the motor stops at fully closed or open position, tighten the corresponding stop screw until it touches the gearbox, turn the stop screw cycle back and lock by an hexagonel key and a wrench (1 turn of the stop screw correspond to 2° angle of rotation around).

General maintenance
Remember: Install the valve withthe disc in the "ALMOST CLOSED" position. Do not use any flange gasket.
1) Be certain the adjoining pipeline is free from any foreign material such as rust and pipe scale or welding slag that could damage the seat and disc sealing surfaces. 2) Any actuator should be mounted on the valve prior to installation to facilitate proper alignment of the disc in the valve seat.3) Check the valve identification tag for materials and operating pressure to ensure they are correct for the application.4) Check the flange bolts or studs for proper size, threading and length.
Position the connecting pipe flanges in the line to insure proper alignment prior to valve installation in handling the valve so as to prevent possible damage to the disc or seat faces. Spread the pipe flanges apart enough to allow the valve body to be located between the flanges without actually contacting the flange surfaces (see Figure 1). Exercise particular care in handling the valve so as to prevent possible damage to the disc or seat faces.
1) For both wafer and lug valves: a. Place the valve between the flanges. Install all bolts between the valve and the mating flanges. Hand tighten bolts as necessary.2) Before completing the tightening of any bolts, the valve should be centered between the flanges and then carefully opened and closed to insure free, unobstructed disc movement (see Figure 2).3) Tighten the flange bolts evenly to assure uniform compression.4) If an actuator is to be used, electricity should be connected to the unit as specified by the actuator manufacturer.5) Cycle the valve to the fully open position, then back to the fully closed position. Check the actuator travel stop settings for proper disc alignment. The valve should be operated to assure that no binding is taking place.6) The valve is now ready for operation.
Before removing the valve from the line or loosening any bolts, it is important to verify the following conditions:
1) Be sure the line is depressurised and drained. 2) Be sure of the pipeline media. Proper care should be taken for protection against toxic and/or flammable fluids.3) Exercise caution if removing the actuator from the valve when the pipeline is under pressure. The valve disc may move suddenly due to the pressure.4) Always be sure that the disc is in the close position before removing the valve.
The following periodic preventative maintenance practices are recommended for all Butterfly Valves:
1) Operate the valve from fully open to fully closed to assure operability.2) Check flange bolting for evidence of loosening and correct.3) Inspect the valve and surrounding area for previous or existing leakage at flange faces or shaft connections.4) Check piping and/or wiring to actuators and related equipment for looseness and correct as needed.

An ordinary Ball Valve is unsuitable as a control device
Characterised Control Valve
In order to ensure good stability of control, a Control Valve must have a flow characteristic that complements the nonlinear characteristic of the heat exchanger in the HVAC system.
An equal-percentage valve characteristic is described in order to produce a linear relation-ship between the thermal output and the amount of opening of the control device. This means that the flow rate increases slowly as the valve begins to open. Characteristic in ordinary Ball Valves is severely distorted.
The reason for this is that an ordinary Ball Valve has an extremely high flow coefficient (Kvs value) compared with its nominal size, several times that of a comparable globe valve.
Therefore, an ordinary Ball Valve is not very suitable for performing control functions:

Belimo has succeeded in solving the problem of the distorted flow characteristic of ordinary Ball Valves. A so-called “characterising disc” in the inlet of the Characterised Control Valve converts the valve’s characteristic to the equal-percentage kind. The side of the characterising disc facing the ball is concave and is in contact with the surface of the ball. Thus, the actual flow is regulated by the hole in the ball and by the V-shaped aperture in the characterising disc.
The Kvs value is reduced and corresponds approximately to that of a Globe Valve of comparable size. In order to avoid having to fit pipe reducers in the majority of cases, each valve size is also available with wide choices of different Kvs values.

Press the push button and manually operate the universal clamp to favoured switch position.Turn switch pointer to the middle line.When actuator moves clockwise (counter-clockwise) to switch position, switch indicator passes counter-clockwise (clockwise) the middle line.The contact between S1 and S3 is cut off (established) and the contact between S1 and S2 is established (cut off).
Note: The switching point should be about 5° from the mechanical end stops (1 short step on the scale).

Mode of operation
Adaption
Straightforward direct mounting on the Ball Valve with only one screw. The assembly tool is integrated in the plug-on position indicator. The mounting position in relation to the fitting can be selected in 90° steps.
Manual override with push button possible (the gear is disengaged for as long as the but-ton is pressed or remains locked).
Adjustable angle of rotation with mechanical end stops.
The actuator is overload-proof, requires no limit switches and automatically stops when the end stop is reached.
When the supply voltage is switched on for the first time, i.e. at commissioning or after pressing the gear disengagement switch, the actuator moves to the home positon.Factory setting: Y2 (counter-clockwise rotation)

The actuator then moves into the position defined by the control signal.
The actuator is controlled with a standard modulating signal of DC 2(0)...10V and moves to the position defined by the control signal. The measuring voltage U serves for the electrical display of the damper position 0...100% and as slave control signal for other actuators.
Automatic adjustment of operating range and measuring signal U to match the mechanical angle of rotation. Manual triggering of the adaption by pressing the Adaption button.

Product features
The actuator is not allowed to be used outside the specified field of application, especially in aircraft or in any other airborne means of transport.It may only be installed by suitably trained personnel. Any legal regulations or regulations issued by authorities must be observed during assembly.The device may only be opened at the manufacturer’s factory. It does not contain any parts that can be replaced or repaired by the user.The cable must not be removed from the device.The device contains electrical and electronic components and is not permitted to be disposed of as household refuse. All locally valid regulations and requirements must be observed.

Mode of operation The actuator moves the valve to the position at the same time as the intergrated capacitors are loaded. Interrupting the supply voltage causes the valve to be rotated back into emergency setting position by means of stored electrical energy.GRKU24-MF-7 is controlled by a standard signal DC 2(0)...10V and travels to the position defined by the signal. The measuring voltage U serves for the electrical display of the valve position 0...100%.
Pre-charging time (start up) The capacitor actuators require a pre-charging time. This time is used for charging the capaci-tors up to a usable voltage level. This ensures that, in the event of a voltage interruption, the actuator can be moved at any time from its current position into the preset emergency setting position (POP).The duration of the pre-charging time depends mainly on the following factors:–Duration of the voltage interruption–PF delay time (bridging time)

Calculation example:In the event of a voltage interruption of 3 days and a set bridging time (PF) of 5s, the actuator requires a pre-charging time of 14s after the voltage has been reconnected.
Delivery condition (capacitors) The actuator is completely discharged after delivery from the factory, which is why the actuator requires approximately 20s pre-charging time before initial commissioning in order to bring the capacitors up to the required voltage level.
High functional reliability The actuator is overload-proof, requires no limit switches and automatically stops when the end stop is reached.
Home position / Start The angle of rotation of the actuator is set ex-works to 0°After the supply voltage has been applied, the actuator moves into the position defined by the control signal.

Emergency setting position (POP) rotary button
The “Emergency setting position” rotary button can be used to adjust the desired emergency setting position (POP) between 0 and 100% in 10% increments.The rotary button applies only to the adapted angle of rotation range of between 30° and 95°
. No minimum or maximum set values are taken into account.In the event of a voltage interruption, the actuator will move into the selected emergency set-ting position, taking into account the bridging time.
Settings The rotary button must be set to the “Tool” position for retroactive settings of the emergency setting position with PC-Tool V3.5 or upper.Once the rotary button is set back to the range 0…100%, the manually set value will have positioning authority.
Bridging time (PF) Voltage interruptions can be bridged up to a maximum of 10s.In the event of a voltage interruption, the actuator will remain stationary in accordance with the set bridging time. If the voltage interruption is greater than the set bridging time, then the actuator will move into the selected emergency setting position (POP).The bridging time set ex-works is 2s. This can be modified at the site of operations with the use of PC-Tool V3.5 or upper.
Settings The rotary button must not be set to the “Tool” position!Only the values need to be entered for retroactive adjustments of the bridging time with PC-Tool V3.5 or upper.

Between 0° and 12.5° angle of rotation, 2-way and 3-way Characterised Control Valves function as tight-sealing shut-off devices. Be-tween 12.5° and 90° angle of rotation, Control Ball Valves operate
as regulating devices. In case of the 3-way Characterised Control Valve, the bypass flow rate (B-AB) is 70% of the nominal flow rate (A-AB).
Note:Due to its spherical design, the 3-way Characterised Control Valve is of limited ap-plication for conventional supply temperature control systems only. Therefore, it is recom-mended that supply temperature control systems are of the double-mixing circuit type (see diagram below). There are no restric-tions when using mixing-type circuits for air preheaters and for injection circuits.

Separate supplyWhen Ball Valve and Rotary Actuator are supplied separately, they can be assembled on-site.Recommended straight pipe installationIt is a general recommendation to keep minimum 2xDN of straight piping distance before the CCV installation in the pipe, to perform the best control function.For the outlet side of the CCV, there is no require-ment to keep the minimum distance of straight pipe.
Recommended mounting positionsThe Ball Valves can be mounted vertically (Fig. 1) or horizontally (Fig. 2). However, mounting the Ball Valves with the spindle pointing downwards, i.e. upside down (Fig. 3), is not recommended.
No special tools are needed for assembly. Instructions will be found packed with the valve and actuator.CommissioningMust not be carried out until the Ball Valve and Rotary Actuator have been assembled in accordance with the instructions.

Differential pressures PV100 with Characterised Control Valves full open
Installing R2..AC, R6..AO CCV, 2-wayThe R2.. Characterised Control Valve is a throttling device, installed in the return line of systems in order to ensure less thermal stress on the seals of the device. The direc-tion of flow specified must be adhered to.
Installing R3..AC CCV, 3-wayThe R3..AC Characterised Control Valve is a mixing device. Whatever type of installation is employed, it is essential to adhere to the directions of flow specified. Whether a valve is installed in the supply or the return of a system depends on the type of
hydraulic circuit being employed. No balanc-ing valve is needed in the bypass line of a diverting circuit because of the reduced flow in the bypass.
Water quality requirementsThe water quality requirements specified in VDI2035 must be adhered to.
Dirt filters recommendedCharacterised Control Valves are relatively sensitive control devices and in order to en-sure that they give long service life, the fitting of dirt filters is recommended.
Sufficient isolating valvesIt is essential to ensure that sufficient isolat-ing valves are provided.
Correct rating and sizingIn order to ensure that the control device (Characterised Control Valve and Rotary Actuator) achieves a long service life, it is es-sential for the valve to be rated for the correct differential pressure PV100 across the valve, i.e. with adequate valve authority (Pv>0.5). The differential pressure PV100 depends on the type of hydraulic circuit in which the valve is being used.

Ball Valves and Rotary Actuators are both maintenance free. Before any kind of service work is car-ried out on control devices of this type, it is essential to isolate the actuator from the power supply (by unplugging the power lead). Any pumps in the particular part of the piping system concerned must also be switched off and the ap-propriate isolating fittings closed (also allow everything to cool down first if necessary and reduce the pressure in the system to atmospheric).

The systems must not be returned to service until the Ball Valve and the Actuator have been properly re-installed and connected and the pipe work has been refilled in the proper manner.
Subsequent removalIn the case of applications where subsequent removal of Ball Valve will be necessary, it is advisable to make appropriate preparations beforehand.
DisposalWhen a control device (Ball Valve and Actua-tor) has come to the end of its service life, the two parts must be dismantled and sorted into different materials before being disposed of.
