BTEC Photography Independent Summer Learning – Introductory Assignment
Hello! Welcome to Photography
During the year you will complete a range of projects. Task 1: To give you an idea of the kind of images produced by previous New College photography students
watch the following videos: Showreel 2014-15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DPCcl2yL6w&feature=youtu.be Showreel 2013-14: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3YtNHHdJv0&feature=youtu.be Showreel 2012-13: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJVZiYhEXCk&feature=youtu.be Note down any ideas you really like. This should only take you 30mins. Task 2: It is always important to gather ideas and inspiration, your first project so please look the following
Pinterest Board which includes photographers and artists to help inspire you and give you ideas. Dead/Alive Pinterest Board: https://uk.pinterest.com/lesleyhickling/alivedead/ Create a Pinterest account (if you don’t already have one) Create your own Pinterest board, full of images you find inspiring. You should spend a minimum of 1 hour on this task. Task 3: Select 1 image from your Pinterest Board which particularly appeals to you. Really study the image and take time to look at in detail. Try to find out who took the image and write this down. Now write a minimum of 1 paragraph in response to this image. You should spend a minimum of 2 hours on this task. You will be asked to hand this in to your teacher to be marked in your first week of college. When writing your paragraph you might want to consider some or all of these questions: Who took the photograph (if you know)? What is it a picture of?
What is your attention drawn to in the image? What reaction do you have to the image? What do you find particularly interesting about the photograph? What could the image mean or be about? How could it relate to the idea of ‘alive/Dead’? Has it given you any ideas for photographs you would like to create?
Good luck with the tasks.
We are really looking forward to meeting you!

Have a fantastic summer (and take lots of photos!)
You will be asked to hand this in to your teacher in your first lesson and it will be marked in the first week of college. If you do not have access to a printer, then this can be hand written and you could print the image when you start in September.
