Home is where the heart is for Chelsea Heath. The 33-year-old, who was born in Sunshine

and recently bought her first home in Melton, is the new manager at Mission Australias Keilor Village Early Learning Centre.

Ms Heath, who has more than 15 years child- care experience, says she is fiercely loyal to her western suburbs heritage and keen to give back to her community.

Ive found that not-for-profit centres really care for the children. You can put more back into the centre and it has more of a community feel, she said.

The most rewarding part of working in early learning is seeing the children develop and grow, achieving goals and taking steps to becoming well-rounded people, she said.

Ms Heath has arrived in her new job at a busy time as the 70-place centre will undergo refurbishments next month.

The outdoor play area will be revamped to include a vegetable garden, while a new coat of paint will spruce up the interior.

Ms Heath says she will work to build a greater sense of community in her new role.

Part of living and working in this part of town is experiencing multicultural people families with very different backgrounds, she said. All children are different and have different skills and strengths we like to build a sense of belonging. Once you have that, the children are in the best place to learn and grow.

A blend of mime, comedy, singing, percussion and puppetry make The Feast a way out way to bring to the stage the unique talents of 13 artists with disabilities.

The 45-minute show will be staged at La Mama Courthouse Theatre as part of Arts Victorias 40th anniversary celebrations. The Feast performers are all from the Way Out West (WOW) program at St Albans, an Arts Access Victoria initiative that supports the creative efforts of people with physical and intellectual disabilities and their families.

Arts Access development officer Rachel Walker said the show would be a feast in all senses.

It has trickery, card tricks and very comedic parts. The costumes are stunning, and its quite an experience for the audience, she said.

Artistic directors, Fleur Dean and Russ Pirie are also experienced actors, and the cast has been rehearsing since March at the Westvale Community Centre.

Arts Access program manager Paul Dunn said being chosen as part of the La Mama Spring Explorations season was encouraging for the WOW program, which was funded by Djerriwarrh Health Services.

The performances have always been done on a shoestring budget, Mr Dunn said. It [La Mama] gives [the artists] the chance to produce it in a more professional and sophisticated way.

The Feast is on November 28 and 29, at 6.30pm, and November 30 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 at the door. Details: http://bit.ly/1wAQWCL

St Albans community development officer, Mr Rod Gow, has threatened to resign. Mr Gows threat follows constant conflicts with the St Albans Community Development Centres secretary, Mr Carmel Dutta.

I will not seek reappointment after December 19 unless circumstances change a lot, Mr Gow told The Advocate this week. He was appointed as community development officer three months ago.

A proposal to award prizes to school children for collecting artichoke thistles has been abandoned by the Sunshine council.

All schools in the municipality, teacher organisations, neighbouring councils and government departments controlling land in the municipality were canvassing for support in helping control the thistles.

The response, however, was not generally favourable.

The Woolworths organisation will build a major shopping centre on the Sunshine Harvester site, opposite the Sunshine Plaza, which has just opened a $7.5 million extension.

News of the Woolworths development has left the Sunshine Plaza and other traders in Hampshire Road reeling. They fear the additional competition will further dilute retail trade, already torn between several local shopping centres.

Consultation for the Sydenham transit city strategy plan will not be extended beyond March 11, despite a demand from a crowded residents forum last week for an extension of at least 12 months.

Brimbank council last week adopted a compromise motion by Robertson ward councillor Margaret Giudice, which omitted the residents demand for $20,000 in council funding to enable them to hire their own planning consultant.

A Holden salesman once told me Fords are not cars, theyre 20,000 spare parts travelling in close formation. The work of Swiss artist Fabian Oefner reminds me of this statement. His meticulously accurate cars explode into their individual parts. Hes an artist adopted by the M.A.D Gallery, a homage to mechanical art devices.

If youre a technology nut and youve never heard of the M.A.D. Gallery, you have a treat in store. Iknew nothing of it until a media release turned up from someone in Geneva plugging a book of truckphotography.

Truck photography? Has someone suddenly made trucks beautiful? After looking, I decided not. But the gallerys website is stunning.

M.A.D. Gallerys website is chockers with beautiful and compelling technology. Its big on watches and timepieces (it calls them horological machines) but it also deals with motorcycles, penny-farthings, music boxes, musical instruments and Fabian Oefners exploding cars.

The M.A.D. Gallery opened in 2011 in Genevas old town and a second M.A.D. Gallery has since opened in, of all places, Taipei. As well as a permanent display of timepieces, it gathers glorious examples of mechanical art from around the world, each one making your heart beat that little bit faster, the website assures.

The gallery is an offshoot of an operation called MB&F, or Maximilian Bsser and friends, which has gathered people to design and build a radical and original horological masterpiece every year.

Bsser started out working for watch company Jaeger-LeCoultre and then ran a company specialising in rare timepieces, before forming MB&F in 2005.

Now Bsser is hooked up with artists from aroundthe world, from Japans Chicara Nagata, who took three years to build his first motorcycle, to American Bob Potts, who makes kinetic sculptures that capture the beauty of natural movement, such as the flight of birds.

Go to madgallery.ch, but make yourself a cup of coffee first; youll be there a while.

This architecturally-designed house has plenty of room to entertain friends, find a place for peace and quiet, or get together with the family.

The exterior is rendered white with tinted, multi-paned windows. The entrance is grand with pillars on either side, adding a ritzy touch to the two-storey facade.

Out front, terraced garden beds are flanked by manicured trees and paths are covered in grey stone chips a bonus for those after a low-maintenance lifestyle.

The interior layout spreads across almost 43 squares with a well balanced blend of living spaces opening on to outstanding outdoor entertainment areas.

All the common areas are at ground level, starting with the family room at the left of entry, just beneath a mezzanine gallery.

A dining room adjoins this but could equally be used as a computer corner or library. A light-filled study right of entry doubles as a guest bedroom with a built-in wardrobe.

White walls and ceramic floor tiles are contrast for granite accents and dark polished timber floorboards, which add warmth to the bedrooms, family room and staircase.

Continuing at ground level, the large, modern kitchen has ample storage in

white laminate cabinets, complemented by granite benchtops, a huge island bench and quality appliances, including a wall oven, double dish drawers and induction cooktop with rangehood.

The kitchen overlooks a naturally-lit meals area and family room, which can be closed off by double sliding doors.

Towards the rear is a second butlers kitchen with oven and induction cooktop and access to a small porch.

Also at ground level is one of three spacious bathrooms. This one is completely tiled, has a granite vanity with twin basins, separate shower and a step-up corner spa.

Four large bedrooms are on the first

The third bathroom services the other three bedrooms.

A mezzanine retreat overlooks the family room and provides a great common area or study with balcony.

The backyard gardens complete the gorgeous surrounds of this stylish home, perfect for barbecues and year-round family entertainment under a large pergola.
