RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FOR QUALIFIERS
BRITISH SHOW PONY SOCIETY CLASSES
This Show is affiliated to the BSPS and all persons entering, competing, showing or otherwise taking part
in BSPS classes, whether or not members of the BSPS are subject to the constitution and Rules of the BSPS,
including the disciplinary procedures, and shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the
BSPS.
This Show is a qualifier for the 2018 BSPS Championships Show to be held at Arena UK. The 1st and 2nd
prize winners Open LR, FR, SP, NS and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in Classes Open Intermediate SRT
(including Mixed height), W.H & SHT, CS and Heritage classes the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prize winners in mixed
height classes will qualify for the BSPS Championships provided the animal is registered in accordance
with Rules 5 and 28 and ridden by a BSPS member.
RULE 5. Exhibitors in qualifying positions, who have never been members of the BSPS are allowed 7
working days in which to become members and register their ponies. Please note this Rule does not apply
to classes with HOYS, RIHS, Olympia or Blue Riband Qualifications.
RULE 28. Owners, Riders and Ponies must be registered BEFORE the date of the Show at which they
qualify, except in the case of exhibitors who have never been members before who are allowed 7 days in
which to become members and register their ponies. This Rule does not apply to classes with RIHS or
Olympia qualification.
BSPS CHALLENGE
This Show is a qualifier for the BSPS Challenge, the highest placed pony in Lead Rein, First Ridden, Open
Show Pony, Lead Rein of Hunter Type, Open Show Hunter Pony, Cradle and Nursery Stakes, Open Working
Hunter Pony and the Open Intermediate SRT, SH and WH classes that has not qualified for the 2017 Horse
of the Year Show in the appropriate class, will qualify. If the highest placed pony has already qualified for
the BSPS Challenge, the qualification will be awarded to the next eligible pony. If after qualifying for the
BSPS Challenge a pony qualifies for the Horse of the Year Show it will forfeit its qualification for the BSPS
Challenge.
BSPS PREMIER LEAGUE
This show is a qualifier for the BSPS Premier League, the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th placed ponies will qualify in the
Lead Rein, First Ridden, Open SP, Lead Rein of Hunter Type, Open SHP, Cradle & Nursery Stakes, Open
WHP, INT SR, SH and WH, Open Heritage Lead Rein, Open Heritage First Ridden, Open Heritage Ridden
and Open Heritage WHP classes, and all Mixed Height Open Classes.
BSPS CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONS
This Show is a qualifier for the BSPS Champion of Champions, the Champion ‘Carrs BMW’ Mini Show Pony,
the Champion ‘White Company’ Mini WHP, the Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’ Open Show Pony, the
Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’ Open WHP/WH, the Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’ Intermediate, the Champion
‘Mitten Asbestos’ SHP, the Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’ Mini Heritage, the Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’
Ridden Heritage and the Champion ‘Mitten Asbestos’ Heritage Working Hunter Pony and in the Heritage
Mixed Height/Breed classes the first prize winner will qualify.
BSPS BEST RIDER
This Show is a qualifier for the BSPS Best Rider of the Year. The Best Rider in the open Lead Rein, First
Ridden, Open Lead Rein of Hunter Type, 128cms, 138cms and 148cms Open Show Pony, the 122cms,
133cms, 143cms and 153cms Open SHP, the Cradle and Nursery Stakes, the 133cms, 143cms and 153cms
WHP, the Open Intermediate Show Riding Type, Show Hunter, Working Hunter classes and Open Heritage
Lead Rein and First Ridden and to the best rider 25 years and under in the Heritage Ridden and WHP
classes will receive a Card and qualify for the final at the BSPS Summer Championships Show.
THE ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW – NURSERY STAKES
This show is a qualifier for The Royal Highland Show Nursery Stakes 2018. The first 4 placed same pony
and rider combination will qualify for the 2018 Royal Highland Show Nursery Stakes provided they have
jumped a clear round. Qualification will only move down the line to the next eligible pony and rider
combination meeting the qualification criteria. This class is open to both BSPS Members and Non-
Members.
BSHA CLASSES
Held under the rules of the British Show Horse Association. Horses must be registered with the Association
and all Owners, Exhibitors and Riders must be Association Members. Riders must be 15 years of age or
older.
Registration numbers must be quoted on entry form.
Classes (36 - 42) are qualifiers for The Royal International Horse Show. The first prize winner will qualify to
compete at the final. If already qualified the second will qualify, if the first and second are already qualified
then the third will go forward. Horses competing at the RIHS and qualifying shows in Hunter sections of
The Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain at their Affiliated Shows cannot compete in Hack, Cobs and
Riding Horse classes at the same show, on the same day and vice versa. This does not apply to SHB (GB)
Ridden Sport Horse classes.
The three highest placed prize winners in all Open Affiliated classes will qualify to compete in the BSHA
Classic Supreme Classes at the National Championship Show September 2018. The BSHA offer a Novice,
Young Rider and Amateur rosette in each Open class and a Champion rosette for each section (with the
exception of Open Working Show Horse, Ladies Show Horse & HOYS Hunter classes).
The Association will award an Amateur Home-Produced rosette in all affiliated open Cob (light &
heavyweight only) classes. These rosettes have been kindly sponsored by TSG, Mr L Turley. The awards
will go down the line; there is no limit on how many of these rosettes can be claimed in the year.
Caledonian Showing Championships
The Caledonian Showing Championships are now well established in the showing
calendar and will once again give 2018 competitors the opportunity to compete at a
top level Championship Final in Scotland.
Evening Performances, loads of bling and razzmatazz .... everything an end of season
Championship should have!

Highfield @ Howe, near Ladybank, Fife on 13/14 October 2018
This Show is a qualifier and every horse & pony placed 1st and 2nd in all Inhand, Ridden Showing
classes (not fun classes) & Working Hunter/Pony classes will qualify to compete in any appropriate
class at the Finals. Qualification will be from placings, no qualification cards will be awarded in the
ring, and no qualification can go down the line. Qualification is for the Horse & Pony except for
Adult/Young Handler classes, where the Handler qualifies.
All qualified horses and ponies will be listed on the Caledonian Showing Show’s website
www.caledonianchampionships.webs.com where you will also find a regularly updated list of
qualifying shows as well as a wealth of other information.
RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. This Show is Affiliated to the British Show Pony Society and all persons entering, competing,
showing or otherwise taking part in the B.S.P.S. Classes, whether or not Members of the B.S.P.S. are
subject to the Constitution and Rules of the B.S.P.S., including disciplinary procedures, and shall be
deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the B.S.P.S.
2. Neither the BSPS Scottish Branch Committee, nor any of its Officers, Servants, or Assistants shall be
responsible or accountable for any loss, injury or damage to any person, animal, or property in
connection with this Show.
3. Each Exhibitor shall abide by and accept as final the decision of the Judges, Referees, Chief Steward
and Officials of the Show.
4. The Judges listed in the Schedule have accepted our invitation to Judge, but the Committee reserve
the right to appoint substitutes should any Judge withdraw.
5. No Exhibitor may knowingly show a pony under a Judge in circumstances that would constitute a
breach of Rule 486 by the Judge.
6. Any pony taking part in Classes judged under B.S.P.S. Rules will be liable to dope testing.
7. Entries will not be accepted without the appropriate fee. An S.A.E. must be submitted with entries
if a receipt is required. No numbers will be sent to Exhibitors prior to the Show. Competitors’
numbers should be collected from the Secretary’s Office on the Show Ground. Cheques and Postal
Orders to be made payable to BSPS Scottish Branch Ltd. NO entries will be accepted over the
telephone.
8. NO REFUND OF ENTRIES WILL BE MADE, except in the event of unforeseen cancellation of the
Show, when a £5.00 levy will be deducted from each entry to cover Administration costs.
9. All Trophy winners must be members of BSPS. An ADULT must sign for the Trophy, and agree to
return when requested by the BSPS Scotland, in a good, clean condition. All breakages will be
charged for.
10. In ALL Classes, correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding Hats, numbers All
PAS015, VG1, (BS)EN1384 2017, ASTM F1163 04a onwards, SNELL E2001, SNELL E2016 AS/NZS 3838
2003 onwards, MUST be worn by riders at all times when mounted. Hats should have a plain cover
either Black, Navy Blue, Brown, Grey or Green. Velvet covers are encouraged.
BSPS SCOTLAND ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY INJURY ARISING FROM A FAILURE
TO COMPLY WITH THIS REGULATION. HAT CHECKS FOR COMPLIANCE WILL BE MADE.
11. Under no circumstances will entries be changed, substituted or amended once received.
13. Only animals entered in classes at the BSPS Scottish Branch Ltd Show may use the arenas for
exercising.
14. Only tack permissible under BSPS rules may be used whilst mounted anywhere on the
showground.
BURGHLEY QUALIFIER - METHOD OF JUDGING ALL SECTIONS TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BSPS RULES FOR
COMBINED TRAINING & GOLD CUP RULE BOOK
OPEN TO BSPS MEMBERS ONLY
Any SUITABLE BRIDLE, Boots and MARTINGALES ARE PERMITTED FOR WHP AND SHOW JUMPING
Competitors must compete in Sections A, B and C.
Marks attained in Section A – Dressage and Section B - WSP, shall be added together.
Any penalties incurred in Section C – Jumping will be deducted from the total of Section A and B.
The winner of the combined class will then be the one with the highest remaining score.
In the event of a tie or ties, the highest dressage score will determine the winner, if there is still equality
the highest WSP style mark will determine the winner.
Competitors must enter both Sections A and B to be eligible to go forward for Section C.
SECTION A – DRESSAGE
BSPS Combined Training Dressage Test No: Eighteen will be used for classes 43A, 44A and 45A. Copies
are available to download from our web site www.bspsscotland.co.uk or from The Secretary, BSPS Scottish
Branch Ltd on receipt of S.A.E.
Bridles as per the BSPS Combined Training and Gold Cup Rule Book.
SECTION B – WORKING SPORTS PONY
Maximum Height of Fences – OPEN HEIGHT
The Course will consist of a mixture of Rustic WHP and Cross-Country style fences, water may be included.
Ponies will be awarded a Mark out of 10 for their gallop.

An elimination in this section will result in 150 points being deducted from the total score.
SECTION C – SHOW JUMPING JUDGE: FIONA ROONEY
ANY SUITABLE BRIDLE. MARTINGALES ARE PERMITTED
This phase will be open to a percentage determined by entries in each class, gaining the highest
amalgamated scores from Section A and B. In the event of elimination in Section C 100 penalty points will
be deducted from the competitors score carried forward from Sections A, B and C.
The Jumping section will be judged on one round, over coloured and or rustic fences. There will be an
optimum time for the course and penalties will be incurred for exceeding this time.
The competitor with the lowest amalgamated score from Sections A & B will jump first.
