President’s Report

This month my report is quite short but the de-tail below is a brief coverage of what is happen-ing in your club between now and Christmas.

EVENTS

Bli Bli Khanacross Come and Try Event

A big thank you must go to Rob Perren who, for the first time has been Deputy Clerk of Course for this type of event and the first time he has been on the pointy end of the Organising Com-mittee. Although Andrew Owen was listed as the Clerk of Course it was Rob’s baby and a thank you goes to Andrew as the overseeing licensed Clerk of Course and keeping a keen eye on the proceedings of the day.

This was the first time an event of this type was promoted by the club and certainly the first time at this venue. With all new events, the initial organization is the hardest, but it gets easier the next time it is conducted, and seeing that there were many congratulations from competi-tors on the acceptance of the event, I am sure Rob will put his hand up to organize it again next time.

The Perren family has been very generous and kind to let the club use their property and the Board and Members thank them for that. Rob’s relatives and family members were there in force, not only to support Rob but to chip in and give a hand either cooking the BBQ or manning the fire truck etc.

There were 30 entries for the day, and I re-ceived and heard of many thanks and congratu-lations, and many asking when the next one is going to be held.

The Good Night Rally on the 29th October

John Keen has told me that some old competi-tors are out driving at night to get some practice under the moonlight and the newer ones in the sport doing the same as most of their events are under sunshine. Maybe John might need a couple more recovery units and it will be inter-esting to see how it all washes up.

John is now in the count down period to the event with only four weeks to go and we all hope it goes well for him. Keep and eye open for magazine and website arti-cles.

Gallangowan Come and Try Event

Sheridan is well in the planning mode for this event which will be held on the Friday prior to Gallangowan.

You can enter your family car in this event so you and your children can enjoy it and maybe you may be sur-prised where it may end up. Of course there are regula-tions to comply with, so phone Sheridan and get an en-try in. If you cannot enter, but can assist Sheridan to run this event, please give her a call and watch the website for updates.

Gallangowan Test and Tune.

The test and tune will be run on Friday over some of the best roads in Gallangowan. The Supplementary Regu-lations will be released soon.

Gallangowan Gallop

The event is now on paper with a competitive distance of approximately 130km and the first course check will happen very shortly. The starting order will be deter-mined by prologue times, so I suggest you enter the Test and Tune to get some practice under your belt.

Camping is available as has been in previous years with catering for Friday lunch onwards, ceasing at breakfast on Sunday.

Hot and cold showers are also available.

Margaret Mackay is the secretary for the event and you can reach Margaret on 0412-553-186.

If you cannot enter, it would be great to have you as an official because we sure need quite a few of them, so please put your hand up and give Margaret a call.

The event is a Multi Club event and will be run during both daytime and nighttime. More on this event at a later date.

Club Nights

The next club night is on the 14th October and George Shepherd is the guest speaker.

See the flyer in this magazine for details.

There is also a club night organised for November and

• events any more.

• Some of the events we have promoted in the past were not very profitable.

• The club’s products in the past have greatly dimin-ished. No longer do we promote a reasonably wide range of events.

If we have a full calendar of profitable events for 2012, I believe we will turn this situation around. The Board is working hard on events for next year to include the events that have slipped from our résumé and Errol is also striving to make sure IRoQ provides the same profit for the club as it did this year which in itself has kept the club alive.

I could go on much more about this topic but I am sure you get the gist of what I have said. Hopefully, things will improve from here on in.

Barry Neuendorff

and hopefully will have Andrew Lenton speak-ing on facebook. December’s club night will be an anticipated wash up of Gallangowan. Check the website for future details.

BSCC Administrative Officer

It is with regret that the Board has had to re-duce Berenice’s hours from four days a week full time employment to casual employment of two days a week which at this stage will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This has not been an easy decision to make and has been debated in length at Board Meet-ings. This decision may seem insane to some of you especially when I am always pleading for your help in some manner.

The reduction of Berenice’s hours will magnify one of the problems this club has, and that is, help to do the things that need doing every day, every month, every year, every event we promote and to make sure we run our club in a professional manner.

It will mean that event organizers will need to find a secretary to assist in the secretarial du-ties of their event as Berenice won’t be there every day to hold our hand.

You may ask why this decision has been made and the answer is simple, the club has more outgoings than incomings and without some changes there won’t be a club or clubroom to go to because it will have to be sold.

If that happens, who will help store the club’s equipment under their house, who will accept club phone calls, faxes, and emails on a roster system at their home and respond to them are just a few things we have to think about.

Why has this happened?

I have listed below just a couple of reasons for this which is not in any status order:

• We have had to reduce our outgoings.

• Income from membership renewals has fallen because memberships are down and the Board has been forced to restructure a cheaper subscription to stay competitive—Again loss of income

• We don’t have monthly rentals coming in as we did with Montague Street.

• Income from events has drastically fallen because we don’t have organizers to run

Brisport Magazine

The Board of the Brisbane Sporting Car Club is currently considering ceasing printing and postage of Bris-

port.

The magazine would continue to be available for download and/or print-

ing from the club website.

Before a decision is made, the Board would appreciate your feedback. Please email the Board on [email protected] or phone the clubrooms on 07 3267 7647 to indi-

cate your preferences.

WRC Success for the

‘HYSPARES HYUNDAI’

The Coffs Coast Forest Rally, run as part of the WRC will be an event to remember for the crew of Luke Page and Tiffany Baker-Schaefer. Rallying is truly an adventure sport, always challenging whether it be slippery conditions, car trouble or pressure from rival crews. Whoever handles these ‘normal’ rally challenges the best, usually comes out on top.

“That’s why the WRC event was for both Tiffany and I was such a huge success. Every rally has unique challenges but this one had them all! A huge quality field, mother nature opening the skies on Friday and like nearly every other crew in the rally, the odd car problem.”

“Our car problems were limited to a loss of brakes on Friday due to a split rear line, and the very odd problem of a ‘breathing’ engine.” The excessive breathing caused Luke and Tiffany, at the amuse-ment of the other crews around them, to disconnect the oil catch tank after every stage and proceed to put the oil back in the engine! The split brake line was an easy fix for the teams great service crew headed up by Matt Whalley, a young mechanic who will no doubt soon be a WRC service regular. After tackling the problems and all of the stages the team managed to take a commanding P2 class victory of over 10 minutes.

“Its always encouraging to achieve such a fantastic result, especially in front of so many rally fans and our friends. I always believe I have the ability; to show it now at an event such as the WRC is just fantastic.”

It was disappointing however to see both fellow Queensland crews of Ryan Smart and John Allen and Simon and Margot Knowles have problems.

“ We all share our rallying together, and its always great to get advice from those guys, so its disap-pointing to see them have problems. It was great though to see Steve Shepheard and John McCarthy (also from Queensland) break through for their maiden ARC win.

Unfortunately the Coffs Coast Forest Rally will be the final main event rally for the crew for 2011. With the new vehicle regulations released and more championship details for next year coming out, the team will now assess opportunities and create a plan of attack to come out bigger and better when the ARC kicks off with the awesome ‘Rally Calder’.

“Scott Pedder and his team are doing some great things for the ARC, a drive in the WRC will always be our goal but for our situation right now growing with the ARC is achievable. I think we will always aim for the world championship; though if we never make it yet manage to win a few national champi-onships here at home among world class drivers I will have achieved a dream. The car will go into the shed for a freshen up and we will discuss the new regulations and what we think is the best plan for next year.”

When manufacture interest returns to the champi-onship the team will be ready to showcase their abilities.

“Not only is it about showing our speed in the car, we also need to be highly marketable. I have come to understand that when manufacturers go racing and rallying, it is to sell cars and you become their most outspoken sales representative. When the teams and manufactures come looking, we will be ready!

Special thanks for this success and all the help goes to: Stephen Page (DAD), Simon & Margot Knowles, Matt Whalley, Hyspares, Rally-School.com.au, The Smart family and many others.

JOHN SPENCER RETURNS HOME TO BE THE SURPRISE PACKET

AT COFFS HARBOUR Queenslander driver John Spencer proved the biggest surprise package at the recent fourth round of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship, the Coffs Forest Rally run in parallel with Australia's round of the World Rally Championship, Rally Australia. Originally from Grafton just 80kms up the Pacific Highway from Coffs Harbour the now Brisbane based Spencer saw the opportunity of running in the Rally Australia/Coffs Forest Rally as a chance to return to the forestry roads where he cut his rallying teeth.

Spencer was overlooked by many because he had not run any of the previous rounds of the Bosch ARC this year and because while he was registered for the Australian Championship he elected to compete in the World Rally Championship field flying under the radar, with most observers not realising Spencer's red Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX was also competing against the locals. His rapid and consistent drive rewarded him with 15th in the WRC field just one place behind the World Rally Car of Norway's Henning Solberg but also meant that he and co-driver John Goasdoue were placed fourth in the Bosch ARC field at the end of the second day when the Coffs Forest Rally concluded.

"I competed in my first rally in Grafton 30 years ago and never thought for one minute the coast would host a round of the World Rally Championship so it was an opportunity I simply couldn't pass up," said Spencer. "It's an incredible thing to compete in a World Rally Championship round on home soil, definitely an opportunity of a lifetime that only a few drivers get," he added. Spencer has paid his dues in the sport as a privateer competing in a variety of cars at state championship level revelling in the chance to share the track with the world's best.

"It was a rally of firsts in many respects for us, it was the first time I've rallied this particular car, which I bought especially for Rally Australia, and it's also the first time I have had John Goasdoue as my co-driver. "To have been the first Australian home in the Production World Rally Championship, to have fin-ished 15th outright and also pick up fourth in the Bosch ARC were all things that were well beyond our ex-pectations," said Spencer.

"At this level, the highs and lows of rally are amazing and I am just so glad that we were able to come away from what was an extremely tough rally on an absolute high," he said. "When you get a precision corner right in a heavily forested rally like those at Coffs it's such a great feeling, but with the slightest over read it all goes wrong very quickly," he said.

"I said before the rally that with 100 cars competing someone would crash and I hoped that it wasn't going to be us and that we get would get through unscathed and we did, I just couldn't have done that to the new car," Spencer laughed. Spencer and Goasdoue also won the Bosch ARC's Privateer Cup category, were first home in the Bosch ARC Premier League and also won the International Cup for Group N in the Bosch ARC. ronically Spencer's co-driver John Goasdoue who competed as a driver in the Queensland and South Australian Bosch ARC rounds, is now sitting equal 14th in the Driver's Championship as well as being 17th in the co-driver's title thanks to their strong result in Coffs Harbour.

2011 Galway Summer Rally

During August and September my long-

suffering wife and myself have been enjoying

the joys of an Irish summer (translation = rain

most days with occasional sunshine). One day,

whilst driving between hotels, I spotted rally

cars on trailers (this was accompanied with a

long sigh from my wife in the passenger seat!).

Further investigation (thank you Google) told

me that the Galway Summer Rally was on the

next day based in Loughrea.. Guess where we

were staying – yes – Loughrea.

With no prior intention (my wife is still suspi-

cious though) we spent Sunday at an Irish rally

(I was a bit over looking at ruined castles by

this stage of the holiday anyway). The event

had a capacity entry of 159 cars, with the top

ten entries included 4 competitors in World

Rally Cars – 3 Subaru Imprezas and a Toyota

Corolla! Over 35 Ford Escort Mk2’s have been

entered to compete for the title of “GRP4 Fabri-

cations King of the Mk2”. Just seeing that num-

ber of rally escorts in one event was unique,

and that, combined with the mix of other makes

and models, a massive number of Honda Civ-

ics, and even a few minis thrown into the mix

made for a very interesting and enjoyable day.

On Sunday the cars completed the same loop of 3 spe-

cial stages 3 times to give a total of 9 stages during the

course of the day. The first stage was 15.4kms long,

Stage 2 was12.6km, and the final stage of the loop was

19.7kms. Service Park was at Loughrea mart (I had as-

sumed this would be like a shopping centre car park,

but no, in Ireland a mart is a cattle sales yard, and the

mix of fresh cow manure and fuel creates a unique

smell indeed!)

Who won? Tim Mc Nulty from Sligo in a Subaru Im-

preza World Rally Car. Sorry, no idea who he is, or in-

deed any of the other teams competing, but I do know

that rallying is healthier than the economy in Ireland,

with a strong turn out of competitors and spectators, a

lot of residents out in front of the houses as the cars

were transporting between stages, and strong support

from local businesses in the area. A very worthwhile

diversion from our travel plans, though my wife is yet to

be convinced……

Great Finish for debut of Fullerton Financial Services Evo 9

The Full-On Rallysport team fronted up for the Coffs Coast Forest Rally with a totally new car to the team, an Evo 9 in Group N trim. The car was delivered only shortly before the rally and the first time team principal Bruce Fullerton drove the car was at testing in the Sherwood Forest on the Monday before the event. The test went well but it still meant the rally would be a case of learn as you go.

The first 2 runs of the super special stage on Thursday night were taken carefully, especially as there had been no time to source a light pod. This however did not deter the service crew of Rob Reddiex and Richard Harris, who set to and removed the small spotlamps from the service truck and managed to mount them on the bonnet of the Evo 9 to provide some assistance. By the last stage of the event, the 6th run of the super special, the Full-On Rally-sport team completed the 3.77km stage an impressive 22 seconds faster than their first run.

Friday started damp and got wet making chal-lenging conditions which the Fullerton Financial Services supported team of Bruce Fullerton and Hugh Reardon-Smith adapted to well. The crew certainly noted the difference in getting grip to the road compared to their previously campaigned Evo 6, and made good use of it. By the end of Friday the team were lying in 10th outright from a field of 47 cars competing in the Australian championship. This was a great re-sult, but the focus was on the whole event, as it was classed as an endurance event over the 2

days.

Saturday saw the weather return to typical Coffs sun-shine, albeit with a cold breeze that helped clear the dust from at least the morning stages. In the dry condi-tions it was more of a challenge to adapt to the new car, and only towards the later forest stages did the crew return to their usual pace. A strong push through the last 2 forest stages and the 2 super specials saw the crew move back up the order to finish 11th outright for the weekend, and be 7th in the list of points scorers in the ARC.

The car was undamaged save for a freak of nature. Whilst waiting to enter the Valla stage for the second time, a branch fell and shattered the rear screen. Quick use of race tape managed to keep everything in place through to the end of the rally.

Overall it was a great debut for the new car, with the team left excited by the prospect of extracting more of the car’s potential. Bruce and Hugh wish to thank Rob and Richard for their excellent work as service crew, and Fullerton Financial Services for their support of the team.

Gallangowan Gallop 2011

This years event will be the 28th year the event has been run and we have as deputy Clerk of Course the one and only Jim Reddiex who was the1st Clerk of Course for Gallangowan in 1984. Jim is Deputy to our Club President Barry Neuendorff who is wearing the hat of Clerk of Course this year. The MUM, MA or HD (Margaret Mackay) to a lot of competitors and officials has the task of keeping the 2 boys on the straight and narrow as Event Secretary.

Now down to some constructive information: Gal-langowan Gallop 2011 Rally will be held on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November in conjunction with The Come and Try Event being organised by Sheridan Hetherman and Neil Michel. The Come and Try Event is for up and coming competitors to have a run in their every day vehicles or a rally car to see if they want to go the next step into competi-tive rallying and the main event Gallangowan Gal-lop 2011 Rally will have 2 parts to it. Test and Tune will be available on Friday afternoon and the event it self will be from Noon on Saturday until late on Saturday night, starting with a Prologue then fol-lowed by a number of Special stages.

The event will be finishing reasonably late on Satur-day night and as it is a long drive back to civilisation, camping at the Gallangowan Oval is available. We have organised a caterer to nourish your bodies and he will be there from Friday Lunch until after Sunday Brekky. The Gallangowan Social club will be open for a cool drink or two.

If you are no competing, could you please give your time to officiate at this great event. On Friday Sheri-dan will require quite a few road closure officials to act as passage control officials/road closure and also 2 teams of control officials for The Come and Try Event and Gallangowan Gallop 2011 Rally will require a team of officials to manage the Test and Tune on Friday. On Saturday Gallangowan Gallop 2011 Rally will require Control officials, Road Clo-sures, SOS Radio point Officials, Stage Command-ers and Spectator Marshals to make the event hap-pen, again we ask if you can give your time to offici-ate in whatever capacity you would be happy doing.

If you are able to assist, please contact Margaret Mackay, Event Secretary on mobile 0412 553 186, phone 07 3286 1584 or email [email protected]

Dibble Locksmiths Racing

Team launch

The Dibble Locksmiths Racing Team was recently launched just in time as preparations are underway for the next Targa event for 2011 - Targa High Coun-try. Targa High Country runs from 5-7 November around the scenic region of Mt Buller and Mansfield in Victoria.

The Mazda MX6, owned and driven by Allen Dibble of Dibble Locksmiths has undergone another round of modifications since the Targa Tasmania rally in April this year.

However, the biggest change, and challenge for Al-len this time around is a new navigator. Allen has been lucky enough in the past, to have the services of one of the best navigators in Australia, and well-known motor sport identity……… Tony Best. So, Al-len has gone from one of the best in the business to a total novice !

Allen & Anita competed in the Mt Stuart Sprint in 2010, where Anita passed the motion sickness test ! Tony has kindly passed on his navigating methods and knowledge to Anita and these have been put to good use, while navigating the rural roads of the Redlands in preparation for Targa High Country.

Dibble Locksmiths Racing Team are currently seek-ing sponsors to support them on their trip to Mt Buller and Targa Tasmania in 2012. They have an exten-sive range of sponsorship packages available – with some fantastic benefits. Full details will be released shortly on the Dibble Locksmiths website and the Dibble Locksmiths Racing Team Facebook page. In the meantime, contact Allen by emailing –

[email protected] and stay tuned to all of our travels and daily race updates on facebook.

Maiden ARC Victory For

SACHS Rally Team at Coffs

“ I Cant put this into words how I feel right now … its just amazing”

Steve Shepheard, John McCarthy and the whole SACHS Rally Team have broken through today for their first ever ARC vic-tory after an incredibly testing Coffs Coast Forest Rally, round 4 of the 2011 BOSCH Australian Rally championship.

Yesterdays stages in the rain on the slip-pery forest stages saw an amazing amount of attrition, including WRC champ, Sebas-tian Loeb, but Steve & John held their neve, and finished in second for the day behind Ryan Smart, “ like driving on ice, the car was just constantly moving and sliding “ said john McCarthy.

Day 2 saw the sun out and a cool breeze all day, allowing the roads to dry out, and the grip return. “ we kept it quick, clean & neat all day with the absolute aim to be there at the finish …. But that is the style of road I live for, so I had to have a fair go “ laughed Steve.

After the SACHS car was holding second for most of the day, the leading Car of Ryan Smart then developed a drive line problem, and the boys smelt blood. Smart was slowed in the final stages, while Shepheard & McCarthy pushed, and moved into the lead on the last gravel stage.

The SACHS machine took a 26 second lead into the two final short tarmac stages around the Coffs harbour front, and eventu-ally took the win b 63 seconds, with Smart and Evans filling the podium places.

“ My dad won his first ARC title the year I was born (1971), so its taken 40 years for the Shepheard name to be at the top of an ARC score sheet again …. Long wait, but we got there “ said Steve, “ and to do this with our family team, and my mate John beside me is a dream 14 years in the making “.

“ This is what I have dreamt of since watching my first Rally car, and it feels like every bit of work has been worth it, just amazing “ said McCarthy, with a smile that’s not leaving for a while. “ The car ran like a freight train all weekend, so its been awesome from beginning to end “.

SACHS Rally Team, GSA Motorsport & the Shepheard family like to thank everyone involved in helping them reach their dream.

Team principal George Shepheard finished with a simple, “ I’m very proud of our car, our team, and Steve & John …. Just so dam proud”

Motorkhana Meanderings……………………………………… Rod Sams It had been a couple of year since the BSCC had played in the Motorkhana world. On Sunday 4th September Team Whalley took up the challenge to run Round 5 of the 2011 Queensland Motorkhana Championship and Series. The event was run on a parking area at the Willowbank Drag Strip. The area was big enough to run two tests at a time which allowed for a tight compact event. By close of book in thirty drivers had nominated to drive in a collection of vehicles from purpose built specials to everyday sedans. New Club member Matt Lavrich even entered a Holden Statesman. The field was spread over nine classes based on type of vehicle, wheel base and drive configuration. Size is not everything in this sport. Once the crews and cars were sorted out competitors were given the test layouts and running order for the day. The experts looked at the mass of lines and nodded wisely. The rest looked at the sheets with furrowed brow. While the serious competitors aimed to be out on a test for a shortest time there were some who were out there for a fun time enjoying their drive. First timer Matt Lavarch may not have set the fastest time but was out there enjoying himself laying down a big smoke screen in the Statesman. After a break for lunch, ably provided by the Michel Family and Master Chef David Nash, the competition continued on in earnest. The competition began to take its toll on the machinery. The pre lunch session had already seen the demise of Ashley Tyson in his 240Z after breaking an axle. Unusual for a Datsun to break an axle!! After being man handled (that should be girl handled) around a number of tests the Niki, driven by part of the Jones team, decided enough was enough and refused to move any more. This left three competitors without a car. But all was not lost as the remaining Jones crew (three others) agreed to share the other car they were driving. The extra work load proved too much for the Lowcost Special as it also came to a grinding halt when the engine tried to leave the chassis. The Lancer driven by James Walker and Robert Kochanski also did not run in the final tests. In all ten test were completed and Captain Whalley true to has word had everything over by 3.00 pm as planned. The early finish allowed a number of people to get organised to go to the WRC at Coffs Harbour. The quickest time of the day was set by Noel Caplet in Class F in his Paris Special. Second was Peter Lepherd who drove well in his Mazda MX5 to win the BR Class. Third was Class F’s Scott Longton in his Red Knight Special. Class CF saw Alan McConnell lead home a bevy of Honda Preludes in his Hyundai Excel. Full results are published elsewhere in the magazine. All in all a good event and thanks goes to the Whalley family, Peter Clydesdale, Rob Perrin, Helen and Tony Best, the Michels and Nashie without your efforts the event would not have run. Thanks also to the Stewards. Sorry if I missed anyone. I must also thank Keith Butcher and crew from the Holden Sporting Car Club for their support and the use of their gear. I hope all the Dads had a great Father’s Day.

1 THE AWARD

The "Never Give Up Award" of $1000 cash and a trophy is donated by Ken and

Margaret Stevenson on Caloundra. This award, the largest in Australian Rallying is

made to the driver best emulating Possum Bourne's never give up attitude.

2 THE CONTENDERS

With the pressures faced by all drivers almost every competitor could be a worthy

winner of the award. At every turn during the rally there were examples of teams

pushing in the face of adversity.

3 THE WINNER

For the International Rally of Queensland 2011 the winner is a driver who epitomises

the "never give up attitude". The award seeks to demonstrate that the application of

the Possum attitude can bring competitive reward as well as a sense of personal

fulfilment. This year the recipient showed with a limited budget and the right

attitude you can not only participate but you can be competitive by never giving up,

this crew was running 6th in QRC prior to their problems. The winner’s car ran on 8

year old tyres, they were plagued with continually overheating issues starting in SS4,

at every service and after every stage they used their allotted time to work on their

car to correct the issue, this commitment continued to the end of the event. This 32

year old driver service crew consists of his mum and dad.

Congratulations to Adam Laney the winner of the Never Give Up Award.

EVENTS UPDATE

As most of you are aware, the Motor School Winter Challenge, which was to have been held on Saturday 6 August was postponed due to low entries. It was originally planned for the event to be re-scheduled for later this year. Unfortunately, there are no spare weekends between now and the end of the year so the event will now be run sometime in 2012.

For those of you who are interested in competing in Touring Events the MG Club will be conducting a Touring Assembly on Saturday 19 November.

This event will start from the MG Car Club Clubrooms at Unit 8 – 16 Collinsvale Street Rocklea. Entries Open at 3:00 pm and the first car will leave at 3:30pm. The approximate distance is 150km and the time that Competitors should take is around 4 hours. There will be a break for late afternoon tea approxi-mately half way through the event and the Finish will be at a Suburban Hotel for a late Dinner and drinks if people want to stay a while. The Entry Fee is $20 and this can be paid on the day of the event. Good Roads suitable for Road Cars and there will be some Country and Suburban running. Only one Competi-tor per Car will need a CAMS Licence of 2NS or higher and a Compulsory Third Party Insurance Exten-sion will not be required. For further information contact Brian Krieger on 0417 008 348

Denis Baker from Gold Coast Tweed has indicated that they will be running a two day TRE in early De-cember. This will start at the coast and travel to Woodenbong/Urbanville for an overnight stop. Accommodation and camping venues are available. It is intended that several motorkhana/khanacross style tests will be run before returning to the coast on Sunday. Competitors and helpers are welcome.

THE NEWSLETTER OF THE

BRISBANE SPORTING CAR CLUB

TAP ON THE SHOULDER

Last Wednesday a passenger in a taxi that was head-ing for Central Station leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.

The driver screamed, lost control of the taxi, nearly hit a bus, drove over the kerb and stopped just centimetres from a plate glass window.

For a few moments everything was silent in the taxi. Then the shaking driver said, “Are you ok? I am so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me.”

The badly shaken passenger apologised to the driver and said, “I did not realize that a mere tap on the shoul-der would startle someone so badly.”

The driver replied, “No, no I am the one who is sorry, it is entirely my fault. Today is the first day driving a taxi. I have been driving a hearse for 25 years.”
