In the Swinging Sixties, Siem Reap was a favourite of the international jet-set. Jackie Kennedy and Char- lie Chaplin are said to have breezed through its trendy bars, restaurants and sipped a cooling cocktail on the ter- race by the river at the For- eign Correspondents’ Club. The club still stands on the banks of the Siem Reap River. I headed there for a delicious dinner of Khmer specialities as I chatted to Douglas Moe, who has worked here for over a decade.
