The Lions are entering the 2010 with hopes
that a return to Senter Field will bring with it new life
into the Bryan College Baseball Program.
As the program enters its 8th season, the Lions are
poised to make major strides in the right direction. The 2009
recruiting class added 15 new faces to the squad to go with the
4 redshirts and 12 returning letter winners who will now be tak-
ing the field with the Lions. “I really like the team we will be put-
ting on the field this spring,” says Head Coach Taylor Hasty.
“They have been committed to working hard all fall both in the
classroom and on the field.”
Highlighted in the recruiting class are three true fresh-
men, Andrew Smith, Josh Harris and Justin McCarty. “These
freshman are some of the best we have had here at Bryan,” says
Hasty, “I am excited about their future and the success that they
will help bring this program.”
McCarty and Smith are both outfielders who saw their
stock rise during their senior seasons. Smith, from McMinn
County High School in Athens, Tennessee, led his district in hit-
ting with an average of .494. McCarty, from Eastern High School
in Louisville, KY, hit over 20 homeruns in his senior year between
high school and legion baseball. Coming from Jordan-Matthews
High School in Snow Camp, North Carolina, Josh Harris is a big-
bodied young man who won 11 games on the mound as a senior
and boasted an ERA less than 3.00.
A large incoming transfer class brought in by Coach
Hasty includes seven junior college players and five transfers
from four year universities. Zach Breault, from New Mexico Jun-
ior College, leads the way as a 6’6” right handed pitcher who
projects well in the upcoming June draft.
The Lions had two senior transfers in Joseph Delrosario
and Pablo Rodriguez, both of whom led their previous school in
offensive production last year and will bolster the Lions lineup.
Josh King also joins the Lions this year as an excellent defender in
the outfield and brings a lot of power to the lineup.
Shane Clawson, Kevin Layne, William Colvard and Adam
Polston sat out the spring season in 2009 but return to the field
for the Lions this season. Clawson and Layne will have a big im-
pact in the outfield and help to anchor the middle of the lineup.
Colvard improved in several key areas during his redshirt year
and will be at third base for the Lions. Polston returns as a po-
tential conference starting pitcher for the Lions after redshirting
his sophomore year.
Highlighted among the 12 returning letter winners are 5
seniors, Zach Bowe, Jonathan Brown, Ryan Henn, Ben Young and
Daniel Zimmerman. Hasty is excited about his senior class, “I
cannot say enough good things about these young men, they are
all so important to our success, not just on the field but off the
field as we seek to impact the young men in our program in a
positive manner.” All five seniors will play significant roles in the
success of the team this year bringing strong leadership and a
team centered focus to the field.
The two returning juniors this year are Jonathan Davis
and Doug Stroup. Davis was on his way to a solid 2009 campaign
when he was sidelined by a UCL strain in his throwing arm.
Stroup saw his playing time increase throughout 2009 in center
and brings experience to the outfield in 2010.
Zach Breazeale, Andrew Brown, Steven Brown, Jordan
Day and Reid Merwin return as sophomores who gained valu-
able experience for the Lions last year as freshmen. All saw sig-
nificant playing time as freshmen and will play impact roles this
year as sophomores. “They went through a tough year in 2009
but these young men are resilient and committed, which bodes
us well as we head into the future, “ said Coach Hasty.

Starting Pitching
Bryan hopes to have the best pitching rotation in program
history with right handers Zack Breault and Adam Polston and
lefthander Zach Breazeale.
Polston will more than likely be the Friday night starter for the
Lions after a redshirt year. It will be a transition for Polston who
during his freshman year in 2008 primarily came out of the bull-
pen. Of the 40 innings he pitched in 2008, Polston threw 16
scoreless innings out of the pen and received 4 wins.
6’6” Canadian right-handed pitcher Zack Breault will be one of
Bryan’s Saturday starters after a solid 2009 campaign as the
number one arm for New Mexico Junior College. Breault threw
37 innings for NMJC, had 30 strikeouts and 3 wins.
Breazeale, who won his first collegiate start as a freshman in
2009, is known as a great competitor always giving it everything
he has on the mound, regardless of who is in the other dugout.
Breazeale led the Lions in innings pitched in 2009 with 63.1 and
will again see a lot of mound time.
Bryan has several young men who will fit the role of mid-week
starter. Daniel Zimmerman brings a lot of experience as a senior
to the starting rotation in mid-week games and will also see time
in the bull pen on the weekends. Senior Ben Young could also
see time as a mid-week starter for the Lions.
As a starter, Zimmerman has had some of the biggest wins in
Bryan’s short history. He led the Lions against Southern Poly-
technic when they were ranked 7th in the country as a freshman
and had three conference wins as a sophomore. He saw limited
time as a junior as a result of his time in England studying at Ox-
ford but will see significant time on the mound in 2010.
Young, who has pitched in every capacity for the Lions over
his career, could see time as a mid-week starter. As the Lions’
career saves leader, Young plays an important role out of the
bullpen but easily transitions to starter when necessary.
Relief Pitching
The Lions deepened their bullpen with their fall 2009 recruit-
ing class adding 3 left handed arms and 3 right handed arms.
Ben Young will again lead the Lions relief staff as he returns after
setting the single season appearance record for the Lions in 2009
with 26. Relievers will again play a key role in the success of the
Lions’ pitching staff and newcomers Kemonte Keesee, Josh Har-
ris, Josh Smith, Michael Edwards and Ryan Hill will play a big part
in the relief work.
In Young’s freshman and junior years, he saw over 20 appear-
ances primarily as a reliever. Young has never been one to turn
down the baseball, leading the Lions in career saves with 8. A
stopper who
throws a lot of
strikes, Young will
again be one of
the first guys out
of the bullpen for
the Lions and
looks to have an-
other solid year.
Left-handed
transfer from
Chattahoochee
Valley Community College, Josh Smith, will be a stopper out of
the bullpen for the Lions. A workhorse, Smith looks to be a big
difference maker in many situations.
Keesee, Edwards and Hill are all junior college transfers who
bring a lot of experience as relievers to the Lions. These young
men will throw key innings and be asked to throw strikes and get
outs in many different situations.
Josh Harris brings a lot to the table as a big freshman arm for
the Lions. Coming off an excellent senior season at Jordan-
Matthews High School in Snow Camp, NC, the coaching staff ex-
pects big things from the young man. He may see time at the
end of games for the Lions, as well as a starting role as he grows
as a pitcher.
Catcher
Senior Jonathan Brown is slated to be the starting catcher
once again for the Lions. Brown will likely bat 8th in the lineup
for the Lions and brings a lot of experience to the position as a
three-year starter.
Sophomore Jordan Day will back Brown up as the number two
catcher for the Lions. Day returns after a freshman year that
saw him catch in 32 games. After gaining a lot of experience as a
freshman, the coaching staff expects to see him make even big-
ger strides as a sophomore.
Tyler Wooden will bring additional depth to the position as a
converted catcher, following a redshirt year in 2009.

First Base _
Transfer left handed hitter Pablo Rodriguez
will be the starter at first base for the Lions.
He had a batting average of .364 last year with
8 home runs and will bat fourth in the lineup.
Andrew Brown returns after hitting .299
with 8 doubles as a freshman to back up Rod-
riguez and will see time when a left handed
pitcher takes the mound for the opponent.
Josh Harris, a big 6’4” freshman will see lim-
ited action at first base as well as a designated
hitter.
Second Base _
Three players are vying for an opportunity
to start at second base for the Lions. Senior
Ryan Henn projects as the starter but sopho-
mores Steven Brown and Reid Merwin are
right behind him.
Senior Ryan Henn is the returning stolen
base leader for the Lions with 20 in his 2009
campaign. A speedy player with a great arm,
Henn provides a lot of weapons both as a de-
fender and an offensive player.
Sophomore Steven Brown spent time as the
starting shortstop for the Lions as a freshman
following the injury to starter Jonathan Davis.
He provides an excellent second option at ei-
ther position because he is a great defender.
Sophomore Reid Merwin is coming off right
shoulder surgery but had a solid freshman
year hitting .294 with 8 doubles in just 22
games in 2009. He is ready to step in and play
second if necessary.
Third Base _
Redshirt freshman William Colvard will be
the starter at third base and the leadoff hitter.
An athletic player, Colvard provides the Lions
with great range at third and a lot of speed at
the top of the order. A disciplined hitter who
can hit for power, Colvard is expected to have
a great first year.
Pfeiffer transfer Justin Mock will back Col-
vard up at third. Fighting a back injury, Mock
is making progress as a sophomore and ex-
pects to improve, providing help if needed.
Shortstop _
Jonathan Davis returns as the starting
shortstop for the Lions. Coming off a hot 2009
February in which he hit .407, Davis sustained
a UCL injury that sidelined him for the rest of
the 2009 season. Following a summer of re-
hab, Davis is back at full strength and will hit
second in the order.
Steven Brown will back up Davis at short
stop after seeing significant time there as a
freshman as a result of Davis’ UCL injury.
Outfield _
The most likely starters in the outfield for
the Lions will be senior Joseph Delrosario in
left, redshirt sophomore Shane Clawson in
center and junior Josh King in right field.
Delrosario provides a big bat in the lineup
for the Lions coming off a junior campaign in
which he hit .394 with 9 home runs. Del-
rosario will anchor the lineup as the third hit-
ter.
Clawson will be the five hitter in the lineup
for the Lions. A transfer from Surry Commu-
nity College in the fall of 2008, Clawson sat out
a year and is now ready to be the starter in
center. He hit .360 for Surry his freshman year
of College and will provide a solid offensive
weapon for the Lions.
Josh King is a transfer from Roane State
Community College. King is an excellent de-
fender who also provides a lot of power at the
plate. He will hit 7th in the order for the Lions.
Returners Drew Brown, Kevin Layne, Doug
Stroup and Zach Bowe could also see time in
the outfield.
Designated Hitter _
Left handed senior Zach Bowe projects as
the starter at DH for the Lions. Bowe brings a
lot of experience to the plate as the 6th hitter
in the lineup and will provide a power left
handed bat.
Returning sophomore Andrew Brown could
also see time as a DH.
Freshman Josh Harris will also be looked at
as an option at this position.

Taylor Hasty enters his second year
as the head baseball coach of the
Bryan College Lions. Hasty became
the head coach in the summer of
2008, after spending two years on
the Lion staff as an assistant coach.
The third coach of his alma mater
since the program was restarted in
the fall of 2002, Hasty looks to guide
the program to new heights.
Born in Raleigh, NC, on June 18,
1983, Hasty moved around the East Coast as a young man be-
fore settling in Tampa, FL.. It was here that he picked up the
game of baseball, playing it year-round through little league.
The Town & Country Little League All-Star team boasted 6 fu-
ture collegiate baseball players and 2 future professional base-
ball players.
Following a move to Atlanta in the middle of his 6th grade year,
Hasty began to pitch and play middle infield. He developed a
strong love for the game during this time, having been influ-
enced strongly by his father’s coaching.
As he entered high school at Wesleyan Christian School in Nor-
cross, GA, Hasty began to see that pitching was his strong suit.
Although he played both second base and outfield for the
Wolves, it was on the mound where he excelled.
After his junior year, the Hasty family moved to Charlotte, North
Carolina, where Hasty enrolled in Charlotte Latin Preparatory
School. After receiving permission from the state, Hasty stayed
back a year at Charlotte to again complete his junior year. It was
during this time that Hasty helped lead the Hawks to a state
championship in 2001. Hasty threw the semi-final game in those
playoffs, defeating the number 1 team in the state, Charlotte
Christian. The next day, as the starting second baseman, Hasty
had a double and 4 runs batted in helping lead the Hawks to the
state title.
During his senior year, Hasty was recruited by many small NCAA
Division I institutions including, Furman
University, Elon College and Davidson.
Bryan College was just restarting their
baseball program and invited Coach
Hasty to come on a visit and see what the
vision for the program was:
“When I came and visited campus, there
was not any grass on the field, it was
lights and rocks,” Coach Hasty remarks
about his first visit to campus, “but I
caught a vision for what Bryan baseball
could become and I continue to work
hard to this day to see that vision realized.”
Hasty was offered a scholarship as a pitcher for the Lions, which
he accepted, following his graduation from Charlotte Latin in
2002.
Upon arrival on campus, Hasty was one of 24 freshmen to take
the field for the Lions in the fall. The freshmen worked hard
both in practice and in working on the field.
“Those days were definitely a wake-up call; we even had to dig
the post holes for the outfield fence,” laughs Hasty.
Hasty threw the first pitch of the infant program on February 4,
2003. He went 5 innings, giving up 1 run and recording 8 strike-
outs against Johnson Bible College.
The first three years of Hasty’s career at Bryan were difficult, but
slowly he became a part of a program that saw 23 wins in his
senior year.
Following graduation, head Bryan baseball coach Joel Johnson,
tabbed Hasty to become his assistant coach. Also working in the
admissions office, Hasty was able to be on campus full-time,
dedicating himself to helping the young men Johnson recruited
to get into school.
Hasty helped Johnson as the defense coach in 2007 and the
pitching coach in 2008. Following the 2008 season, Coach John-
son retired to spend more time with his family and teach at a
private Christian school in Chattanooga.
“It was very sad to see Coach Johnson go; I had played for him
and I am indebted to him for the beginning of my coaching ca-
reer,” Hasty remarked. Bryan Athletic Director, Dr. Sandy Zen-
sen, hired Hasty in the summer of 2008 to replace Johnson.
Since his hiring, Hasty has fo-
cused on building the vision for
Bryan College baseball, seeking
to bring in not only talented
young men but young men who
want to play the game hard
and with integrity. Hasty hopes
to bring success to the young
program as it grows, and see it
become one of the top pro-
grams in the NAIA.
Coach Hasty met his wife, Julie, during his freshman year of col-
lege, and the couple was married following their graduation in
2006. They just recently had a son, Maddux, in June. The family
resides in Dayton, TN.

Nathan Beuster comes to Bryan Col-
lege from Lindenwood University,
where he has spent the past two
seasons as the pitching coach. In his
first season, Beuster will not only
handle the pitching staff but will
also be the point man for the Lions’
transfer recruiting class.
Beuster played at Culver-Stockton
College in Canton, MO, earning a
Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Beuster pitched for
the Wildcats not recording a loss in his first 20 starts on the
mound. While at Culver, he helped lead his team to two regular
season HAAC championships. It was while he was a Wildcat that
he first developed a deeper understanding for what it meant to
pitch at a high level.
“My collegiate coaches always pushed me to think about the
game on a deeper level, always trying to get me to perform at a
high level day in and day out,” remarks Beuster, “It is this same
drive that I attempt to instill in my current players: an intense
learning and competitive environment.”
The competitive success for Beuster did not end with the regular
season. He was a part of 3 Wildcat teams that won three HAAC
post season championship and captained the 2006 NAIA regional
championship team that finished 9th in the nation.
Following graduation from Culver Stockton, Beuster followed his
college coach, Doug Bletcher, to Lindenwood University where
he spent two years on staff as the pitching coach. While at Lin-
denwood, he helped guide the team to back-to-back regular sea-
son and post season Heart of America Athletic Conference cham-
pionships posting an overall record of 85-34-1. Beuster led 7
pitchers who were HAAC All-Conference Team members, as well
as the 2009 HAAC Pitcher of the Year.
Head Baseball Coach Taylor Hasty remarked about his new staff
member, “I am excited to have Coach Beuster join our program;
he brings integrity, high character and a strong relationship with
Christ to complement his resilient work ethic.”
Beuster is “excited to join Bryan staff and aid in the develop-
ment of quality young men both on and off the field.” He met
his wife, Emily, at Culver Stockton ,where she was a keeper on
the women’s soccer team. They were married in the summer of
2009 and now reside in Dayton, TN.
Jeremy Deal is entering his second
season as an assistant coach with
the Bryan Baseball Program. Deal is
the hitting and infield coach for the
Lions.
A 2007 graduate of Bryan and 3-
year letter winner in baseball, Deal
is excited about his opportunity to
be on the other side the program, “I
love Bryan College deeply and it is
an honor to be a part of a program
where we are committed to building young men of character.”
Coach Deal came to Bryan after an outstanding career at West
Caldwell High School in Lenoir, NC. Playing for Hall of Fame le-
gion coach, Gary Hamby, at Legion Post 49, Deal developed as a
shortstop against some of the best competition in the country.
Following his high school career, Deal played for one season at
Lenoir Rhyne College in Lenoir, NC. After his freshman year,
when he made the travel squad, Deal felt the conviction to
transfer to a school that did not play on Sunday.
“I really wanted to be at a school that would allow me to grow in
my walk with Christ and attend church on Sunday,” said Deal.
After a redshirt season in 2004, Deal enrolled at Bryan College
and took the field for the Lions in the spring of 2005. While at
Bryan, Coach Deal finished 5th in the nation in assists from the
shortstop position in 2006, and 10th in 2007. Deal holds 3 sea-
son records in batting average (.366), doubles (15) and walks
(26). Deal also hit .309 over his career, good enough for 5th on
the career records list and had 28 doubles, which is also a career
record at Bryan.
Deal received a degree in Exercise and Health Science from
Bryan College upon graduation in 2007. He spent a year as the
youth pastor at New Union Baptist church, where he still works
to this day. Coach Hasty brought him on staff when he was
hired as the head coach in 2008 to be his part-time hitting and
infield coach.
“We needed someone in our program who was passionate
about hitting and infield; Coach Deal exemplified exactly what I
was looking for,” Coach Hasty remarked.
Commenting on his return to his alma mater, Coach Deal re-
marked, “I believe that we have young athletes who are commit-
ted to learning to play the game well and the right way. I simply
want to help them do that.”
Deal married his high school sweetheart, Deanna, in August of
2006 and they currently reside in Dayton, TN.

Coach Shearer joins the baseball staff
at Bryan College as a student assistant,
who is primarily responsible for coach-
ing outfielders. A former collegiate
baseball player at Bryan and a young
man who is passionate about the game
of baseball, Shearer brings a lot to the
staff.
“I cannot express enough how valuable Paul is to me and the
rest of our staff. He has done a great job with our outfielders
and is a solid young man,” Coach Hasty remarked about the
Bryan College senior. “He will do a great job this spring, and I am
excited about his future as a baseball coach.”
Shearer has the desire to coach baseball and teach at the high
school level. He has been involved in many extra-curricular or-
ganizations at Bryan College, including the Chorale and the Bibli-
cal Worldview Team.
“Being a part of those other teams gave me a lot of experience
in different areas, but nothing can replace how great it is to be a
part of the baseball program here at Bryan,” Shearer remarked,
“I am gaining valuable experience and I am very appreciative of
this opportunity.”
Following his graduation in May of 2010 with a degree in His-
tory, Shearer plans to find a job at a high school and begin his
coaching career immediately.
Matt Dillard is in his first year at
Bryan College as an Assistant Ath-
letic Trainer. He joins the Bryan
staff after completing a Master’s
Degree in Health and Human Per-
formance with a concentration in
Athletic Training at the University of
Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Born and raised here in Dayton, TN, Dillard grew up around
Bryan College and is excited about working here: “It is an honor
for me to work at a place that I know and love,” said Dillard.
Following graduation from Rhea County High School, Dillard en-
rolled at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He received a
degree in Exercise Science from UTK before heading to UTC to
receive his Master’s.
He and his wife Jennifer have been married for three years and
reside in Soddy-Daisy, TN.
Diana began working with the baseball team at Bryan during her
freshman year, following her time working with a collegiate
summer team at her home in Alaska.
A young woman with a servant’s heart, Diana brings a strong
work ethic and a passion for baseball. “I have always loved
baseball, growing up cheering for the Dodgers, and it is so much
fun working with the team here at Bryan,” Diana remarked.
“She is irreplaceable! I have nothing but great things to say
about all that she does for our program,” Coach Hasty says
about her, “Having her help takes such a burden off of me.”
Diana is primarily responsible for stats keeping and other organ-
izational duties.
This is Brianna’s first year being involved with the baseball team
here at Bryan. She is a great support and friend to Diana, less-
ening the workload since they now share responsibilities.
Brianna came into the program as the replacement for former
manager, Haley Kaye, who graduated from Bryan College in the
spring of 2009.
“I decided toward the end of last spring that I really wanted to
be involved with the program at Bryan, so when the job was
offered, I jumped at the chance,” Brianna remarked.
“She will do a great job as a replacement for Haley Kaye, and I
am excited that Brianna decided to join us,” Coach Hasty said.
Brianna is also responsible for stat keeping and assisting Diana
in any of the responsibilities as assigned by Head Baseball
Coach, Taylor Hasty.

TER FIELD
Mark H. and Rosabel F. Senter Field was built over the course of
two years from 2000 to 2002, completed in the summer of 2002.
Located on the East corner of Bryan College’s Dayton, TN, cam-
pus the field was built following the generous donation of Nick
Senter, son of Mark and Rosabel Senter.
The late Mr. Senter of Lookout Mountain, GA, was the chairman
of the board for Dixie Youth Baseball. He spent much of his time
working to improve little league baseball across the United
States, donating his time and his money to help kids develop a
love for the game. “It was an honor to see this field be built and
to see the great game of baseball return to Bryan College is a
special privilege,” remarked Mr. Senter at the dedication in the
Spring of 2003.
Many people donated their time and their money to see Senter
Field become a reality. From Dr. Jack Traylor, a history professor
at Bryan and a base-
ball history aficio-
nado, who spent
hours running a back
hoe to Tim Shetter,
now the resident
director in Woodlee-
Ewing Dormitory,
who ran the dump
trucks as the ground
was being leveled.
The maintenance director and Vice President of Operations Tim
Hostetler oversaw the project and utilized many on the mainte-
nance staff at Bryan to help with the construction. Even the first
incoming baseball class in the Fall of 2002 helped with the final
construction, helping to put up the fence that surrounds the
field.
The field sits on what was formerly a ravine, requiring over 70
tons of dirt to be dumped onto the site in order to raise the
ground level high enough to build a field. In fact, part of the ra-
vine can still be seen behind the right field fence just beyond the
home bullpen where the complex ends.
A unique feature of the park is the man-made pond that sits just
behind the left field fence; players love it when someone hits
what is called a “pond shot”! Students have been known to put
on their bathing suits and sit in inner tubes in the pond during
games, just waiting for the chance to catch a home run ball.
Senter Field boasts one of the nicest playing surfaces in the con-
ference and the night games that can be played as a result of the
lights create a wonderful atmosphere for watching a game.
“There is something about the ring of the bat across campus
during an evening game, followed by cheers that is exciting and
different than a normal day game,” says Head Baseball Coach
Taylor Hasty, “We are very fortunate as a young program to
have such a wonderful surface on which to play, and as we grow
our amenities at the park it will become the nicest complex in
the AAC.”
Some of the improvements
that Hasty plans to make
over the next five years are
a press box, a locker room
facility and more stands
around home plate. “There
is a natural hill that fans al-
ready sit on that makes for a great view but we need more room
for them to sit around home plate, for it is there that you really
feel a part of the game.”
The press box would include public restrooms and a concessions
stand, providing a more comfortable environment for the fans.
Still in the planning stages, the improvements to the field are
being designed but Hasty hopes that things will move forward in
the next few years.
“We must continue to always improve our environment and
what we have to offer our student-athletes. Bryan College is
already changing in many positive ways, with the new entrance,
the new on-campus apartments, the softball field and the new
practice fields. The new athletic center and academic buildings
are not far away, and part of the excitement surrounding all this
new construction is what drives my vision for what we can do to
improve Senter Field.”
Overall, Senter Field is a great place to play and to watch a base-
ball game.
