• Brussels Airlines is the operating name of Brussels Airlines SA/NV (formerly Delta Air Transport S.A./N.V., which has its office registered in Elsene-Ixelles in Brussels).

• The registered office was once in a different part of Brussels.

• The ICAO code was changed from DAT to BEL from 26 October 2008.

• The CEO, Philippe Vander Putten, left his position on 3 June 2008.

• The board nominated Michel Meyfrodit and Bernard Gustin as Managing Directors; Meyfroidt and Gustin would later both carry the titles “Co-Chief Executive Officer” since Brussels Airlines’ 2009 entry into Star Alliance.

• However, in June 2012, Gustin became the only CEO due to Meyfroidt’s resignation from the company.

• The current Executive committee, apart from CEO Gustin, is made up of two other members: CCO Lars Redeligx and CFO Jan De Raeymaeker.

• On flights to European destinations, Brussels Airlines offers three kinds of tickets: b.flex economy+, b.light economy, and b. business (business class):

• b.light economy: a low-cost formula with a buy on board programme offering snacks and beverages for purchase. On flights operated by FlyBe and Tyrolean Airlines Q400’s and Brussels Airlines flights to Agadir, Marrakech, and Moscow, free beverages and a snack are also offered.

• b.flex economy+ : the a economy plus class, offering full service, including free newspapers, catering, fast lane at security, change flexibility, and priority boarding.

• b.business: a full-service Business class on the European network; offers quality meals, free champagne, and full flexibility.

• Brussels Airlines offers normal economy and business classes on medium-haul and long-haul flights (Africa, the United States, and Tel Aviv).

Traffic

• In 2008, Brussels Airlines had 5.46 million passengers; in the previous year (the first year of operations, following the merger between SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express), it carried 5.85 million passengers.

• In 2010, Brussels Airlines transported 4.89 million passengers, a 4.4% increase compared to 2009’s 4.7 million.

• They had a relatively successful year in 2011 with 5.69 million passengers total, an increase of 16.3% in comparison to the previous year.

• A slight increase of 1% was accomplished to a total of 5.76 passengers carried in 2012; this increase was accomplished mostly through the Africa route (+10,1%) and the effective start of a regular flight to New York-JFK, which led to a loss of 2% for the Africa route.

Frequent flyer programme

Destinations

Destinations • The fifth Airbus A330-300 began service on 5 July 2010.

• The airline increased its flights to Abidjan (up to six per week), adding Accra, Cotonou, Ouagadougou, and Lomé as new destinations.

• Brussels Airlines is adding more U.S. destinations to its route.

• The airline began the route to New York-JFK on 1 June 2012, operating everyday with an Airbus A330-300 equipped with the new interior; this is the first Belgian airline in a decade to fly to New York, following the failure of Sabena and Delsey Airlines.

• Brussels Airlines (since 18 June 2013) additionally flies five times per week to Washington Dulles, still with the A330; additional possible destinations are San Francisco and Boston.

Livery and callsign

• The aircraft livery is made up of a “dotted B” logo on the tail, a light blue belly that covers the length of the aircraft, with the airline’s name written in dark blue on the upper fuselage, with the airline’s “b” logo preceding it.

• Most Brussels Airlines aircraft have an adjusted “B” logo after superstitious travellers criticized the thirteen dots for indicating bad luck; the logo now has fourteen dots.

• Bee-Line is the Brussels Airlines call sign.

Inflight Entertainment

• Brussels Airlines has two inflight magazines.

• The monthly magazine for the European route is b-there!, while the magazine for the African route, published every two months, is b-spirit!

• Both magazines are accessible on board or can be downloaded as a PDF via their respective websites; the magazines are additionally accessible as a freely downloadable application for Apple’s iPad.

• The airline introduced a new interior on the A330 fleet in November 2011.
