Saturday, March 21, 2020: 9-5 Day of Fun:

We will have our Board meeting during the Pot Luck Lunch.

The March meeting project will be a watercolor painting designed and shared by Dottie Shultz:

California Poppies.

The project will fit into an 8”x10” frame, with the painting

mounted into a precut white 8”x10” white mat or it can be a card

if you prefer.

I will supply the watercolor paper, paint and masking fluid. I will

bring extra rubber lifters or bring yours if you have one.

Supplies to bring:

watercolor palette or plastic trays

DecoArt Dazzling Metallic Glorious Gold paint

¾” wash brush, #6 and #8 round brushes, #1 script liner

watercolor brushes if you have them

old tooth brush

low tack masking tape

4x 6 index card

gold marking pen fine or extra fine

square or T-square ruler

precut white 8x10 mat with 4 ½” x 6 ½” opening (optional)

board to tape watercolor paper to larger than 10” x 7” (Plexiglas or foam core boards work well).

If you plan to do the framed piece instead of a card, bring the mat along for the class, as it also gets

splattered.

Hope you will join us in March to paint poppies.

Presidents Message As I prepare my last article as President for the January Newsletter, I assume many of you are decorating,

cooking or wrapping gifts for the upcoming celebration. I do hope that most of you found some time to

paint as well. It has been a rewarding three years as President of PWP. I hope you will consider getting

involved with this great group of ladies and help us continue as a strong chapter. I enjoyed traveling to

Convention and representing our Chapter. Thanks to each of you for my experience.

We just had the planning meeting on Wednesday. Barb L, Jeannine L, Dee DeLorenzo and I discusses

different, exciting projects for you to look forward to. Thank you to Lois E, Melissa C and Jeannine Lewis

for submitting projects for a program. I am also excited to share that Nancy Stauffer will be teaching an

Erica Joanne project in April. There will be a fee for this class to cover Nancy’s fees plus each person is

required to purchase the pattern.

Our January Meeting with be Installation of Officers and a General Membership Meeting with a cute

SURPRISE project taught by Dee DeLorenzo before and after the meeting during Pot Luck Lunch. In

February, Elaine Moran will share her talent and lead the Memory Box Program. Then, in March, we will

have our Board meeting during the Pot Luck Lunch and Dottie Shultz sharing one of her watercolor

paintings. Be sure to look in this newsletter for more information about each of these programs.

Happy New Year

I’m excited to share that we will be having Nancy Stauffer on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Nancy recently

achieved her certification from Innovation Pencil by Erika Joanne. I painted with Nancy this past summer

and had a wonderful time. I asked if she would be willing to travel to our chapter for a one-day class.

Together we decided on Partridge Primer. Since my selection, I learned that this project was published in

the Decorative Painters Magazine in the Spring 2015. Normally, each participate must purchase Erika

Joanne’s pattern but since it was printed a few years ago, you can bring your magazine to avoid the $10

fee.

The surface as shown in this newsletter is 13” x 10.25” paintable Oval MDF Wood Plaque for $14.95.

Each individual can also bring their own surface. If you have the magazine, you can size the pattern to

your surface.

The plaque will be painted with JoSonja’s Artists’ Paint, which Nancy will provide the day of the seminar.

You will need JoSonja’s Burnt Umber and Moss Green for base coating and prep work.

Also, nine colored pencils $14.80 are required: Black, White, Dark Brown, Dark Green, Peacock Blue,

Sienna Brown, Spanish Orange, Terra Cotta and Olive Green.

Register for Nancy Stauffer One Day Seminar

MEMORY BOX Program The Memory Box Artist Program Inc., began in June of 1998. The

memory boxes are either painted or decorated then given to a

family who has suffered the loss of a newborn. The boxes can be

filled with mementos of the lost child, i.e. footprints, lock of hair,

etc. You can view additional information at

www.memoryboxes.org

Penns Woods Painters has participated in this program for

numerous years. We take one day a year to paint memory boxes

as a group. Throughout the year members paint boxes at their

leisure to be donated to the program. The majority of the boxes

are donated to the local Pinnacle Health Organization and Penn

State Children’s Hospital.

Our next scheduled paint in will be Saturday February 15, 2020. I will provide patterns and boxes at the

January meeting.

Our current inventory, 37 unpainted boxes and 57 painted boxes. In 2019 we delivered 77 painted boxes.

This is an email received from Mary Newby, a past member of PWP

Dec 20, 2019, 6:43 PM (7 days ago)

Tonight we finally started decorating our Christmas tree . The first ornament box was full of beloved ornaments from the PWP ORNAMENT exchanges through the years.

I sure miss all of you my painting friends ❣️❣️It was so special hanging ornaments and

recalling your friendships❣️There were a couple of unsigned ones . Our Winston Salem area chapter Triad Decorative Painters is small but such a sweet group of ladies. A God Story The Lord has been with us every second of the plans to move here where our son-in-law’s job took him and family from Lititz. Last Sept I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer on the left side. I had 28 lymph nodes removed under my arm, 6 were cancer and others in the breast. After surgery in October I had 2 of 4 chemotherapy treatments which put me in the hospital from infections so chemo was stopped then it was on to radiation treatments. December 4 my hubby Larry had another open heart surgery to implant an LVAD - Left Ventricular Assist Device. He is now running on batteries. We we’re both in the hospital at the same time. I’m so thankful we were here when he had his 5th heart attack and this procedure. The doctors, nurses and hospital are AWESOME!!! Also our daughter, Karen, was and still is as well as her family. and our son in Boston and his wife came before Thanksgiving last year so they were here when the LVAD implant took place. That’s another God story!! We have much rejoicing to our Lord for seeing us both through each health issue. As I went through each event with the cancer the Lord gave me a peace and calmness.

Wishing y’all a Blessed Christmas as we celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus ❣️❣️ Mary Newby

Penns Woods Painters Chapter Board Meeting/Planning Minutes

Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Attended: Barb Lehman, Jeannine Lewis, Dee DeLorenzo and myself

The meeting got stated approximately at 6:15 pm.

We discussed the 2020 calendar, looked at any conflicts and finally created the schedule as posted in the

Newsletter.

We looked at each committee and chairperson. This information is also printed in the Newsletter.

Due to low attendance of meeting, we added the Mechanicsburg Craft Show. We will discuss this in the

future and a decision will be finalized.

Dee shared to most recent Community event, Merry Mechanicsburg. This was our second year

participating in this event. For 2020, Dee thinks we should donate a Christmas tree decorated with hand

painted ornaments for their raffle. More discussion expected.

We also discussed the 50/50 at each meeting. We would like this to continue at each meeting.

Lastly, we talked about the need for a newsletter. We would like to use our webpage and Facebook as

our communication in 2020. We still have two members we don’t have internet and would need a contact

person to call or mail them with updates. We will discuss this further at our January Membership Meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm
