Exam Tension

Oh! Its examination Must study with concentration

When exams are near, They cause us a great fear,

Because things aren't clear.... And some subjects aren't dear. English with it’s punctuations, Maths with its calculations.

Geometry with its constructions, History with its civilizations.

Civics with man's nation, Geography with its population.

Moral science with its motivation, General science with its information. Computer science with its application

Uph!!!!!!!!! Can't even do meditation.

So, there is no time for relaxation, Finally, when I get a promotion To another grade of confusion

I hope there will be days without examination.

To Do My Best

Every day I’ll try to do my very best And I want my practice to be obsessed My work will always please the teacher And I want to be a legendary creature

I’ll talk very sweet And my writing will always be neat

And I simply won’t be delighted Until my exams have been completed

I’ll try to do my best And succeed in every test

And I won’t take rest To do my very best

Streams…

I have always wished and wondered,

one day I’d swim across a stream.

Enjoying the nature’s beauty,

Enjoying it like a dream.

From the crystal clear water,

To the slithering ways of the stream.

This unforgettable sight of nature,

Flows down your mind, like you ‘re asleep.

Whenever you are gloomy,

Think of the beauty of this stream.

I Have A Mango Tree

I have a mango tree!

In my back garden

With all spreading its beautiful leaves free

I have a mango tree!

With all its flowers blossomed

The time when the kites sore in the blue sky

I have a mango tree!

With its fruits as sweet as honey

I just sit under it and have a cup of tea

I have a mango tree!!

With all its leaves bare

Just like a man without hair!

Secret Of Nature

Once I had an occasion,

To go to the ocean I admired the wave's motion,

WHO controls this endless action?

Our body able to function, By the beat of heart's motion Even if we try our domination,

WHY it ends in exhaustion?

Sun and moon never fail, Fire and water ever changes its trail Weather and climate always in nail, WHAT made all these Nature sail?

TRY

I am not going to die Without a try

Knowing that I may fail

But still there is always something to gain We will not achieve anything without pain

That all I may have, is today To show me the right path

Will I pray

To that one decision of mine Will I cling

That I may one day Become the king

Will leave my opulent life behind

The greatest power I have right now Is my own mind

Looking at the clear blue sky Seems that there is no hope

But look beyond, There are a lot of dreams to cope.

People say that the sky is the limit

But heroes are those Who make it their home.

Bear In There

There’s a polar bear

In our Frigidaire

He like it cause it’s cold in there,

With his seat in the meat

And his face in the fish

And his big hairy paws

In the buttery dish,

He’s nibbling the noodles

He’s munching the rice

He’s slurping the soda

He’s licking the ice

He lets out a roar

If you open the door

And it gives me a scare

To know he’s in there

He Is The Answer To All My Queries

He is invisible

He is a welcomed guest from god

He is unpredictable like that of a storm

He is like the snowflakes full of calm and peace

I tried to find him but as I came closer I was digging my own burial chamber

The thought of losing him vanishes the smile on my face and makes me cry

I love him and his absence reminds me of suicide

My parents hated him because he was an atheist

Just a crack on my vein makes him visible

My parents blamed

My teachers shouted

My friends ignored

But I didn’t care because he was the eternal to me

He was the only one who was with me when I was alone, yet he was invisible

I had enough queries to solve myself but I know the answer was him

He was the answer to all my queries

Once we were inseparable but he left me alone with the promise he will come again forever

I followed him again but he unfollowed and repeated the same words

I was secluded when I was with him

His entry to my life with the red roses was the final contact

He at last wanted my soul instead of my heart and I gave him and that was MY

END…….

The Feeling Of Loneliness

As I opened the door, I stood there, deep rooted to the ground.

I just saw people look with a glare, Oh, what an unwelcoming class, I found.

That feeling, that feeling of loneliness crept inside me.

I tried my best to be friendly, but all I found was people who were unfriendly.

I felt like it was better talking to the walls, who were my only console.

I cried my heart out, to myself in whole.

That feeling, that feeling of loneliness crept inside me.

All I wanted to do was breakdown.

I looked at the class, no one bothered to look at me.

But, I found my heart whispering- stay strong.

After all, life is all about accepting challenges.

Honey

I am honey,

Bought by money.

I am sweet,

Like a good tweet.

Bees collect me,

Man neglects me.

Bees spend their life on me,

Bears fend bees and fight for me.

I am a bit boastful,

But quite useful.

I am good for throats,

But bad for goats.

I can be eaten or drunk,

Like a double drum.

I make people fat,

But am still eaten.

I Want Life

In the deep, as I delve,

For something real, For something due,

To know myself, To see the hue,

I want life, yes! I want life!

Towards the skies, as I leap, To reach the heavens, To seek that peace,

For I have wings And I love the flight,

I want life, yes! I want life!

To myself, as I talk, Wishing for the truth, Hoping for a friend, For I feel pleasant

And I dream ecstasy, I want life, yes! I want life!

In search of the wholeness,

As I travel, With some amicable

And some not, This is why I speak

For my empty heart, I want life, yes! I want life!

Grow Plants Grow Life

Plants gives healthy food and we lead healthy life. Everyone should build their

own garden. If you have big backyard or a big balcony even a windowsill should

do. You can grow your little plants and flowers. Children can note down the

germination of plant in a separate notebook for each seed you planted. If you

have any backyard you can see tiny snails, butterflies, caterpillars and any other

creatures and you can get fresh fruits, vegetables and other organic food

products. In markets we get fruits and vegetables with chemical preservatives

and pesticides. Make a healthy life by eating organic fruits and vegetables and

enjoy the view of your mini garden with your family.

Slow And Steady Wins The Race

If a child who has not studied throughout the year reads nineteen hours a day

during his examinations cannot be sure of getting good results. If a student

studies regularly for five hours a day, he is sure to get a grand success.

Therefore, anything done hurriedly cannot have solid and firm foundation.

Human mind is a wonderful thing. It has its own limitations. If you put anything

drop by drop, it will absorb it. But if to we want it to accept tons’ load, it would

not be able to give room them. It needs slow but constant labour and it brings

flowers, fruit and contentment. An intelligent knows well that slow and steady

wins the race. He may have some edge because of his consistency and

persistence but a hardworking student with constant labour can always hope to

reach his goal. Therefore, the work done with cool and calm mind lasts long

and proves fruitful. Great heights cannot be achieved by sudden flights.

Dare to do

Kiran Bedi motivates and inspires youngsters to achieve their goals and

objectives without fear being overwhelmed by circumstances, She emphasizes

the fact that qualities such as honesty, dedication and commitment to one’s

profession are vital if one want to succeed in life, She had led from the front all

along and has faced all obstacles head-on she added a highly relevant chapter on

the empowerment of woman to explain how, in several situations of their own

making ,even educated woman disempowered themselves . It is about a true life

story ‘Lived and Living’, the real life story of India’s first and highest ranked

woman officer in the Indian police service-who pioneered a Gandhian (inclusive

and transparent) model of policing marked by utmost devotion to duty,

innovation, compassion and above all willpower !

School with a difference

After studying the lesson “School with a difference”, I got an idea that if all of us

understand the pain of the blind, dumb etc. People we will feel sad for them and

will come forward to help them.

So, for this activity there should be 5 blind people and 3 volunteers for helping

the blind. The rest of the class watch the activity and the 3 blind people should

be helped by the volunteers and the rest of the blind people should walk by

their own. If the rest of the class feels sad, they can come and help.

So the class can know who is the kindest among all.

Bar Code

A barcode is a way of storing numbers printed in a way that a computer can

easily read. Bar codes are used to identify a product and the company which

made the object. When a bar code is scanned at store the code number is sent

to the stores computer and the computer does a price lookup for that

particular barcode number and price is shown on the cash register.

It also gave information that the barcode of books are always identified as ISBN

code. Full form of ISBN is International Standard Book Number.

13-digit GS1 code is commonly used with consumer goods

EARTH DAY

“He that plants trees, loves others besides himself.”

—Thomas Fuller. Awareness – everyone does! Planting – most of them do! What uniqueness I should do, to create my presence!

I wanted to grow a plant that is (a) Easy to grow (b) Well suited to the UAE weather (c) Provides multiple benefits for human beings. In the research of finding out the most apt plant, I came across various varieties of plants and learnt an interesting fact about “Cinnamon Basil”. Cinnamon Basil was taken into space by the Space Shuttle Endeavour during STS-118 and grown in an experiment in International Space Stations. It was then I decided that, out of so

many Basil varieties I wanted to plant Cinnamon Basil and spread the awareness. A week before Earth day, I planted Cinnamon Basil sapling and after a week, when I found new petals popping out, it was a joyous moment for me. I excitedly took the plant pot to my school and shared my experience and plants benefits to my

class mates. WHY: Basil has multiple uses, it can be used for culinary purpose, medical purpose, as a

pet repellant and as a garden plant companion. USES: * Cinnamon Basil is a Gardeners true friend. If Cinnamon Basil is planted close to

tomato plants it will discourage bugs from damaging the plant and it also enhances the flavor of tomato. It also repels mosquitoes and white flies. It enhances the growth of asparagus and roses while protecting them from

insects. * Rub its leaves on your skin and get rid of mosquitoes. * You can also place fresh springs on top of food containers to keep files from

landing during picnics. COOKING: Its flavor is unique and refreshing. It has a spicy, fragrant aroma and flavor. You can

add it to your tea, use it in jellies, honeys, vinegars and baked good.

CULTIVATION: Cinnamon Basil is also known as Mexican spice basil. It required 6 to 8 hours of bright sunlight per day and medium water. It is easy to grow herb and requires very little maintenance, that’s why you will see this plant growing in most of the

public gardens and it also purifies the air. MEDICINE: Packed with vitamin K, fresh basil helps with blood clotting and aids in bone strength. Used medicinally for its antioxidants and antibacterial properties, basil oil

provides an immune system boost and combats aging and skin ailments.

Keep exploring nature, planting and treasuring the nature.

Onomatopoeia

We were given an activity based on self written poems on inanimate objects. I

wrote a poem “Tic Tac Toe” which depicts the life of Time and Tide. I used the

rhyme schemes A,A,B,B……Also I used the poetic devices like personification,

metaphor, simile and onomatopoeia.

Onomatopoeia: Words that sound like their meanings.

Example: Tic Tac Toe. Onomatopoeia was taught by our teacher this year. I used

it in my poem as the title. This made my poem highlight the concept. I felt very

interesting while using such poetic devices in my poem.

Here comes the Poem…

Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe

Early in the morning light,

Feeling secure in the bright.

Hands are jogging half a side,

Run Run to bide.

Chirping of the sparrows,

Make you drain out sorrows.

Let us move to wavy,

Tide doesn’t make us scary.

Dawn who hoop broke out,

Time and Tide lark flout.

Hope it to be a journey,

Make it bit more frowny.

Lads who turn out sporty,

Lass are always worthy.

Time is with it’s motion,

Tide departing it’s ocean.

Having slog everyday,

Pleasure proceeding all away.

Mankind feels you that’s alright,

Proverb makes you up erect.

STORYSTORYSTORYSTORY

Rani ~ A living misery

Intro:

This story is about a teenage girl in a rural village in Haryana, India. The

atrocities faced by girls, especially adolescents, are many. Rani, our character in

the story has gone through most. Let us see what she has to say about

traditional customs (once banned but still practiced in rural states) in India.

[Note: This is a truly fictional story. Nothing in it is true except for the ruthless

behaviour to women]

India is known for the respect shown to women and the treatment of

goddesses as queens are a common thing for the ladies. Little do others know

the agitation and agony women have to go through? 16 year old Rani has gone

through it all.

Hailing from Dupedi, Haryana, she lives in a family which belongs to the

category ‘Below Poverty Line’. She is the eldest among eight and takes care of

them as a second mother.

To earn money when both her parents were ill, she was forced to become a

devadasi (a servant of God [as per ancient beliefs]) at a tender age of 13.

One day, as she came home from “work”, she was bitterly raped, which left a

permanent scar on her. Only she can explain what an appalling life she had after

the incident. All her relatives thoroughly insulted, ignored and degraded her

even if it wasn’t her fault. She was under house arrest and was considered

impure for getting raped. Life was starting to feel like a dramatic tragedy. Life

was getting hard for the 14 year old. She is being punished for a crime she

didn’t do.

After a month, this news spread like wildfire across the village. As per traditions, the girl who gets abused should marry the abuser. Rani couldn’t do anything as she was a very quiet girl. She got married to a man who already had 2 wives, Anita and Sangeetha, and 5 children. His deed has now left him with 3 wives.

Rani was 14 years old when she got married. This was a life changing issue for her. Since she was his mistake, Dev (her husband) never even turned back to look at her. The other two wives were brutally harassed. On her 15th birthday, Anita died. At the same time, her father also died. Devastated and depressed, Rani urged Dev if she could go home.

STORIES

Page 14: BRS S TUDENT LLLLINKIINNKKINK · challenges and reflection on their learning process inside and outside the ... Kiran Bedi motivates and inspires youngsters to achieve their goals

Page 14

After a long while of persuasions, he agreed. She went home to see a marriage

take place. It took her a while to digest the fact that it was the marriage of her

youngest sister, aged 8. She was in shock of all the different types of atrocities

taking place. When Rani saw her mother, her mother was in a white saree and

was in a room, isolated. ‘So, this is what a widow looks like’ she thought. And

then she glanced at her husband. There was no change in him. It made her

wonder, ‘Why us females? What did we do to deserve all this?’ Right then, her

uncles (mother’s elder brothers) told her to leave the room. When she

enquired why, she got a reply saying that “widows aren’t allowed to see

anyone; even their relatives”. She couldn’t take it anymore. She told Dev that

she wanted to leave. While they were going home, she was thinking about all

she saw earlier that day. “Sati was a better option. Dying was better than

suffering a miserable life close to not living itself. I hate to see my mother

suffering like this.” Rani was married off to a higher caste. This meant that if her

husband died, both she and Sangeetha would have to commit sati. But if she

died, would her husband have to do anything? No. It just wasn’t fair. But whom

does she have to tell?

Rani is 17 now and has a child of age 1. She initially had twins, of which one was

a girl and the other was a boy. To the news that one was a girl, her mother in

law was shocked with anger and killed the female baby. Dev got married once

again. Jayanthi is her name and she is only 12, not even an adolescent.

Dev was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 months ago and when diagnosed, he was

on the verge to the 3rd stage. Neither Rani nor Sangeetha and Jayanthi are

sympathetic towards him as he has brought them to such a stage where they

have faced all sorts disgusting challenges in life. He has spoilt all three of their

lives with no correction from his parents. If he dies, all three of the have to

commit Sati. According to Sangeetha “Sati is better than this living hell. I have

suffered for years. I married him when I was 10. I’m 19 now. There’s no use

living for such a family anymore. At first, Anita was my only support but due to

marital rape, she is no more. Rani has been very adjusting throughout. Jayanthi is

still in shock. She is not talking to anyone.”

There are several girls like this around the world. Struggling, but doesn’t say a

word. Social evils are many: starting from female infanticide and child marriage

to even devadasi, sati, widowhood and no education. Rape is another

devastating evil in which the victim is looked down on.

Rani, who suffered all her life, never had the time to even think about

education. Leaving all essentials behind, she only lived according to society.

Morgiana

The Earth has gone weak. The pollution level has gone above limits. People are dying, diseases are developing. It is ending, everything humans have is decaying, but two things remain. Human’s intelligence and human’s will to live any way

possible. Artificial intelligence. This insanity started in Dubai. One of the most, rich, resourceful cities remain-ing, where there were masses of refuges hunting for betterment. They

constructed robots over there to help the needy, to help Earth. The scientists didn’t think once about the people who survived this ending and how life will be with unknown creatures. These robots have the same minds as humans; same will to live, to save their kind. The outcome isn’t good. These robots have done it; they have started to eradicate the human population. Most scientists who invented this disaster were slayed but some have luckily survived and hidden in an underground safety spot provided by the army. But there isn’t any attention paid to the security of it; hence people or robots can go in and out easily. And they have. Morgiana an artificial intelligence robot has entered this base and no one was aware of it. Morgiana is an information collecting robot and has the capability of sending information across the blue planet. But there is one secret Morgiana has, she could feel. She could feel the same emotions as humans do, as animals do and as anything does. She could feel happiness and sorrow and excitement. This secret is not known to anyone one but her. Morgiana thought that she is malfunctioning, but if she told anyone, she will have a chance of 99.9% of getting discarded. For thirteen days Morgiana has been in the base. She has examined many humans and their behaviour towards each other. She was supposed to pass on information 2 days back. But Morgiana couldn’t collect any data from the base, she kept searching for it, looking into their computers, eavesdropping in conversations but she couldn’t get anything relevant. The thing she was not looking for was love. Love between a mother and her kids, love between a father and a daughter and son, love between two humans. It was everywhere and it was there to stay. But then she notices something, that some humans didn’t have their love, they were always downhearted or disconsolate. Their life came to an end. Then it hit her, one bit of information “Love keeps them Alive, destroy love, they’ll die”. She wanted to; she really did want to send this bit of information to her headquarters. But she couldn’t, she felt bitter for the first time on herself for thinking about destroying their love. Every human has their love and that was keeping them alive, they treasured it, they lived for it and without their love, life will be meaningless. Life without love, a person to

treasure would be empty.

The one thing that we live for The one thing we treasure

Is said to be immortal It is said to be more powerful than anything known

It is love
