South Carolina’s Brownfields Law

became effective May 1, 2000

Added Financial Incentives – May 2002

• State corporate income tax credit for

expenses incurred by a taxpayer in

cleaning up a site (voluntary cleanup –

means response action taken under

and in compliance with Section 46-56-710)

• 50% of expenses up to $50,000 in a year; can carryover up to $100,000 for 5 years

• Jobs tax credit in the amount of an additional $1000 toestablished job tax credit

• Property tax exemption, with county concurrence

• Fees in lieu of property taxes, with a $1 million thresholdminimum

• Loan Size: Up to $1 million

• 30% debt forgiveness (maximum of $200,000) fornon-profits and governments

• 10 year repayment period
