THICKNESS MEASUREMENT FOR ALL INDUSTRIES
CALIX
CALIX series is the fi rst LAP sensor family for diff erential thickness measurement in one housing. CALIX is an alternative to displacement sensors placed in complex measuring frames that need temperature control and frequent re-calibration due to the systems characteristics.
In CALIX sensors, the measuring beams are precisely aligned and calibrated ex factory. No need for complicated adjustments on site, no error prone alignment procedures. LAP CALIX sensors are easy to set up and easy to use. They can be moved into the production line fron the side without a bridge construction.
LAP CALIX sensors are off ered with diff erent measuring ranges and throat depths. Throat depth determines the distance from the material‘s edge to the measuring point. For profi le measurement movable systems are available.
CALIX sensors deliver precise and reliable measuring values on virtually all non-transparent materials. Digital Signal Processors (DSP) adjust laser power and CCD in realtime to match changing colours or surface structures. As signal processing is digital from sensor to evaluation, the system is resistant to perturbation.

Take advantage of CALIX features in pro-duction and quality assurance:
NON-CONTACTNo contact to the object to be meas-ured, no wear and tear on the sensor, no traces on the measured surface.
INDEPENDENT OF MATERIALNo dependance of chemical or physical material properties, colour or refl ectivity.
FASTERMeasurement takes place inline, while pro-duction is running. No stop for measuring or taking samples.
100% INSPECTIONPermanent monitoring during production. Complete documentation.

CALIX S – SIMPLY MOUNT, CONNECT, MEASURE
CALIX S is the stationery successor of “on the fl y - measurements” using calipers during production. CALIX data fl ows continuously. No samples, but a constant stream, enabling process optimisation, quality assurance and complete documentation
BENEFITS
Factory calibrated thickness measuring system
Highest precision and stability
Fast measurement, up to 4 kHz
Ethernet interface
Temperature stabilised
LASER TRIANGULATION
A laser beam emitted from the sensor creates a visible spot on the surface of the measured object. Depending on the distance, a CCD line scan cam-era besides the laser “views” this spot under varying angles. Using this angle and the known distance of laser and camera, the Digital Signal Processor computes the distance between the sensor and the measured object.

CALIX XL – THE LONG RANGE SPECIALIST
For wide material, measuring tracks in the middle of a roller table or for large movement ranges during traversing measurement LAP off ers CALIX XL. The measuring depth of more than 1 meter allows for enough movement in most applications, that may be realized without a stationary, massive O-frame.LAP also designs rail constructions for your application, as well automated ones for traversing measurements as ones with manual handling for moving them out of the transport way and back in for measuring.
BENEFITS
Large measuring depth
Diff erent kinds of rails for movement
Two-way-triangulation on request
Highest precision and stability
Fast measurement, up to 4 kHz

THICKNESS MEASUREMENT BY SUBSTRACTION METHOD
Two opposing sensors with a defi ned distance (A) each detect the distance to the surface (d1, d2). Thickness is calculated by subtraction (D=A-d1-d2).

GUIDANCE RAILS
LAP off ers movement rails customized for your application. You may move the sensors
manually and lock them in place at a measuring or a maintenance position
by drive mechanism and lock them in diff erent positions
automated to programmed positions
according to measurement programms for traversing or multitrack measurement.
CONFIGURATIONS
Depending on the required data, there are several ways to use CALIX sensors:
single track centered measurement:CALIX S width up to 500 mmCALIX XL width up to 2000 mm
one sensor traversing measurement:CALIX S width up to 250 mmCALIX XL width up to 1000 mm
two sensors traversing measurement:CALIX S width up to 500 mmCALIX XL width up to 2000 mm
multi-track measurement, e.g. using three sensors:width 1400 mm:2×CALIX S, tracks with up to 250 mm distance to edge1×CALIX XL for center track
Data evaluation may take place on the LAP Digital Control Unit (DCU) via RS485 or on a PC via Ethernet.

LAP stays right by your side before, during and after the installation of a LAP system. International experience acquired over decadesin the installation and maintenance of laser systems across virtually all industriesmakes us a reliable and competent partner. Before you make your decision,we will give you plenty of advice and explain both the possibilities andalso the limitations of the technology. We will support you in the planning and installation of the system onsite. After commissioning, we will stay with you during your fi rst steps using the laser measuring system until its use has been optimised. Each customer has diff erent requirements regarding main-tenance cycles, reaction times and protection from down times. LAP therefore off ers each customer an individually tailored package, which can extend far beyond the guarantee and standard working hours. Do you want to have replacement equipment on site? Emergency service available at all times? A 24-hour hotline? Or is replacement within 24 hours, support during the working day, and regular training of your personnel suffi cient for your needs? Just tell us what you want – we will fi nd a suitable solution for you.
