The Holy Father speaks… Every family needs a father -- a father who shares in his family's joy and pain, hands down wisdom to his children and offers them firm guidance and love. Being a father is not easy since it takes lots of patience and grace. But what consolation, what a reward one receives when the children honor this legacy. It is a joy that more than makes up for the hard work, that overcomes every misunderstanding and heals every wound. A father knows how to firmly correct children's mistakes without demeaning or demoralizing them, as well as protect them at all costs. A father is there for his kids when they play and when they work hard, when they are playful and when they are distressed, when they are communicative and when they are taciturn, when they are daring and when they are afraid, when they have strayed and when they have found their way again. But a good father also knows how to forgive sincerely from the heart and be patient and merciful, like the father in the Gospel account of the prodigal son.

It takes prayer and careful discernment to know you’re being called to priesthood or religious life, and eventually you have to enter a seminary or convent to be sure. Very, very few people are “mistakenly” ordained or “inadvertently” make religious vows. Formation takes years, and you can leave the seminary or convent at any time. When you get closer to making a final decision, God will give you an inner peace about your true vocation.

Let's not forget our promises.... Many months ago the parish and the Diocese asked everyone to participate in the fundraising campaign called "Generations of Faith". Like all other such campaigns, we are asked to pledge an amount of money which we would contribute -over time- and once we arrived at our parish goal, anything over it would be returned to the parish for its needs. In this campaign our goal was $475,000. We pledged $742,230 but only paid $227,806 so far. Both the diocese and the parish plan our budgets based on this pledged income. We urge you to take a look at the record of your progress in paying what you pledged, and, if possible, begin again to pay some amount of it each month. The Generations of Faith Campaign had 289 donors. Of these, 69 have not paid anything as of yet. Please try your best to do what you promised.

From the Pastor's Desk--

CONGRATULATIONS TO FATHER ROBERT PINNISI Last Saturday, Deacon Robert was Ordained a Priest. He will serve in the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey. I have known him since he was a boy in my first parish of Our Lady of Grace in Gravesend Brooklyn. He was my altar boy. To see him now, years later, as a Priest, is really quite overwhelming and joyful. They say that God writes straight with crooked lines. The path He chose for Fr. Robert was certainly not a direct path. During his college years at St. Francis College, he decided to enter the seminary. After a few years there, he took time off to discern his vocation more closely. He got married and had two children who are now in their twenties. He had also become a Police Officer and a Funeral Director. After a divorce and annulment from the Church, he re-entered a seminary in New Jersey and started discerning again. It all reached its goal last weekend when he became "a Priest forever". We wish him every blessing and promise to pray for him. Pay attention to God's plan for YOUR life. It may be a zig-zag road but He always leads you to the right path for your fulfillment. Msgr. Ronald T. Marino

LIGHT A CANDLE FOR A

LOVED ONE OR FOR YOURSELF

Many people like to keep a candle lit in Church for a loved one

or even for a special intention. You can do the same by contacting the Rectory and ordering one. You can order it for a week, a month, six months or a year. Your name can be placed on the candle if you wish. There is an offering requested for this and you can arrange it by stopping at the rectory when you have a chance or calling us. We will send a reminder to you to see if you wish to renew it in the future.
