Brookland Junior School
Pupil Premium Grant Expenditure and Impact:
Report to parents: 2016-2017
Pupil premium provides funding for pupils who have been in receipt of free school meals
(FSM) at any point in the past 6 years. The Pupil Premium also provides funding for children
who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and the children of
service personnel. We want to ensure that the Pupil Premium allocated to us has an impact
on narrowing the attainment gaps which currently exist between our Pupil Premium pupils
and their peers.
The Pupil Premium money which Brookland Junior School receives in our school budget is
used to make a contribution to the cost of a range of intervention and support programmes.
This support ensures that all of our children are supported in their learning so that they can
make the best possible progress.

Evaluation Methods Pupil Premium Spending 2016-17
During the year, the school rigorously measures and monitors interventions at regular intervals. Each
intervention/activity is evaluated half termly, with a focus on outcomes for each pupil; their progress
against national expectations and their confidence and access within the subject. Pupil’s progress is
tracked through assessment processes and where there is a lack of progress seen or concern about
a pupil meeting expectations, we intervene quickly in order to narrow the gap for that child/group. We
hold termly pupil progress meetings to evaluate progress made by our pupil premium children and to
identify and address any gaps or concerns in provision. Our Pupil Premium lead is present at each of
those meetings and adjustments are made to provision as necessary.
Thorough notes and intervention/project reviews are written and recorded with adjustments made in a
flexible way to meet each child’s needs. When a group does not produce the desired results for a
pupil/s then the provision is adapted and re-evaluated. Our Pupil Premium lead oversees the
coordination and allocation of targeted support to ensure that it is focused and maximises each child’s
chance of success.
We also discuss progress and achievement with the children themselves and record their verbal and
written feedback on how the additional support has helped to improve their achievement, confidence
and progress in lessons. Their suggestions for improvement are taken into consideration. Parent
Brookland Junior School
surveys and discussions with individual parents help to guide our support to children in receipt of this
funding.
In addition to evaluation methods within our school, we use The Sutton Trust and Education
Endowment Foundation to provide evidence-based information and strategies with proven positive
outcomes to support our decision making.
Refer to our policy on Pupil Premium for additional information.
Implications for Spending 2017-18
In evaluating the progress and attainment of pupils over this year as well as reviewing existing
programs, we plan to focus on the following next academic year:
Continue to embed a streamlined version of Enabling Enterprise skills within the wider
curriculum and to access additional enrichment opportunities.
Promote peer tutoring across the school in a range of areas.
Continue to run tailored interventions in maths and English throughout the school across a
range of abilities
Increase parental engagement with workshops and in communicating local events and
agencies who can offer support.
To promote increased sporting and physical activity through lunchtime or after school clubs.
Continue to monitor attendance and communicate with parents and provide incentives and
goals for those with poor attendance.
Continue to utilise a school counsellor and mentoring system to meet the needs of our pupils
Look for opportunities for pre-teaching in mathematics throughout the year
Implement boosters in Year 6 reading and mathematics
Make financial provision for support for some of our PP pupils to be able to be part of our
school residential
