What is Holy Yoga? Holy Yoga exists because in a broken and hurting world everyone deserves a place to belong. Holy Yoga
is an experiential worship created to deepen people's connection to Christ. Our sole purpose is to
facilitate a Christ honoring experience that offers an opportunity to believers and non-believers alike to
authentically connect to God through His Word, worship, and wellness. Holy Yoga exists to carry the
Gospel to the ends of the earth through the modality of yoga.
Holy Yoga is a highly regarded international yoga instructor training program.
This program consists of two modules broken down into an in-person
curriculum immersion (two classes/week for nine weeks totaling 150 contact-
hours) and a hands-on intensive retreat (five days), bringing the total training
hours to 225.
Our LIVE 225 Hour Instructor Training is approved by Yoga Alliance.
Our intention is to live out four pillars of purpose.
● Community - We are here to serve. We long to create a place for everyone to belong, from the
Christian who is afraid of yoga to the Christian who loves yoga; from the yogi to the seeker; from
the non-believer to those who believe differently. We welcome the diversity, anticipate great
conversations and are excited to facilitate authentic community.
● Yoga - We are a highly regarded international yoga instructor training program. Our staff has
collectively participated in and completed some of the most well-known yoga certification
programs. With years of experience and training, they collaborate to offer a stellar training that
truly cannot be compared with any other. Whatever your desire, upon graduating you will have
the education and tools you need to facilitate Holy Yoga in your sphere of influence. Holy Yoga
does not water down the truth or the experience for seekers. It invites them into a world class
yoga experience, one that offers both physical and spiritual sustenance.
● Christ-Centeredness - We are Christ-centered. Knowing who we are invites others to come into
the fullness of their unique identity. Holy Yoga training is here to equip you to facilitate a Christ-
honoring experience that offers the opportunity for believers and non-believers alike to
authentically connect to God through His Word, worship, and wellness. Holy Yoga exists to
bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth through the modality of yoga.
● Living Beyond Ourselves - We are keenly aware of our world. It is broken and many are hurting.
Our desire is to have eyes, arms and hearts wide open. We are creating a community of those
willing to go beyond themselves to influence this world in the unique ways God has called them.
We do not know all things, and we long for the mystery of God to guide us. We want to speak
5
truth, listen to stories, and discuss the in-between, finding the thread of service and ministry
throughout.

Certification Hourly Requirements
Breakdown of Hours
● Technique - 100 hours
● Teaching Methodology - 20 hours
● Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle - 40 hours
● Anatomy - 20 hours
● Journaling - 25 hours
● Prayer and Meditation - 20 hours
Technique
You will be required to attend or practice at least four Holy Yoga/yoga classes weekly when you begin
Holy Yoga Instructor Training. If you are not near a Holy Yoga class, please find a Christian yoga class that
you like or practice on your own. Inclusive in your tuition are two Holy Yoga practice videos as well as
Holy Yoga asana technique that can be utilized for practice hours. You are encouraged to practice three
times a week for optimum momentum and growth.
You will be keeping a log of your hours in your training manual. There will be weeks when you have life
going on; please connect with your immersion instructor directly in cases where this applies. Please be
consistent with this commitment. Holy Yoga will not be checking in with you weekly. This is a
commitment of utmost importance. You cannot teach what you do not know. Your commitment to
your personal practice represents your commitment to yourself, and in turn, to your students.
● Two classes weekly at 75 minutes each yields 65 hours
● Three classes weekly at 75 minutes each yields 78 hours
Teaching Methodology
You will be required to acquire 20 hours of teaching methodology training. Inclusive in these hours is
how to demonstrate and articulate a pose effectively, how to assist and adjust, sequencing, flow, timing,
integrating breath work, medical precautions that apply to ailments, differentiation of yoga styles, the
qualities of a superior yoga instructor and the business of yoga.
Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle
You will be required to acquire 40 hours of Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle training on Holy Yoga. This will
include the history of yoga and meditation, the biblical background of meditation and worship, the re-
education process of the Christian Yoga movement, and the use of your personal testimony to inspire
your students’ highest growth. Spiritual and biblical research will be required for journaling topics, and
for insight into effectively communicating your message to students.
10
Anatomy
You will be required to acquire 20 hours of Anatomy training. The Anatomy portion of the training will
be divided among nine asana series which include Standing, Balancing, Arm Balances, Inversions,
Backbends, Twists, Forward Bends, Seated, Reclining and Restorative. Each series will have an anatomy
teaching on which parts of the body are being used and affected by the series. You will also learn
rotations, locks, and the physiological effects of the poses on the body. Viewing of the anatomy video
two weeks prior to retreat is mandatory. You are also required to attend a four-hour Yoga Anatomy
workshop with Jonnie Goodmanson, Director of Holy Yoga Anatomy & Physiology. Tuition for the
workshop is included in your Holy Yoga tuition. The anatomy workshop is scheduled in tandem with the
Retreat.
Journaling
You will be required to journal two-three times a week. Ideally you will journal for 20-40 minutes a
session for the duration of your training. If you are having trouble finding the time, then curtail it to fit
your schedule. You must journal at least two times a week. Allow it to be your prayer time and a time
when you expand on a feeling or a teaching that has inspired you. It is crucial that you do not cheat
yourself out of this. It is the core of your personal approach to teaching and essential to your ministry.
You will use your entries to become comfortable sharing your faith, and as your inspiration when you
begin teaching.
Prayer and Meditation
Just as Holy Yoga is a discipline, prayer and meditation are spiritual disciplines you get to participate in
as ministry leaders during your training. Throughout each week of your immersion, you are encouraged
to participate in soul care in the following way:
Holy Yoga Prayer Call -- Prayer Calls are 30-minute guided meditation conference calls where you will be
led in a focused time of Scriptural prayer. Multiple calls are led throughout the week and you can join a
meditation call as your schedule allows.
Christian Yoga Philosophy
We will look at the philosophy of this emerging movement and the history that supports it. We will also
look at the controversy surrounding Christian Yoga so that we are well equipped to re-educate and
inspire people to unify with God through the practice of physical movement and collective worship,
including mind, body, and our spirit in Him.

Required Reading
There are four books required for your training, they are to be purchased separately:
1. Holy Yoga: Exercise for the Christian Body and Soul by Brooke Boon. This will serve as your
manual in addition to Hatha Yoga Illustrated.
2. Hatha Yoga Illustrated by Brooke Boon and Martin Kirk which will serve as your instructional and
photographic manual/reference guide.
3. Eat This Book by Eugene Peterson. This nine-chapter book outlines the importance of the Word
and meditating on it. It will accompany our training week by week and teach you how to
immerse yourself in the discipline of biblical meditation.
4. Experiential Worship by Bob Ronglein. This is a great book for understanding the essence of
worship with our whole being.
The Holy Yoga Experience
You will learn what it is to experience Holy Yoga. You will be given the history behind the Holy Yoga
philosophy and mission as well as the tools needed to replicate it. You will be taught Holy Yoga verbiage
and directives as we walk through pose articulation, benefits, and contraindications. Articulation of
blanket and specific directives will be delivered in your included Holy Yoga posture videos.
Business & Ethics
You will learn how to start your own ministry. Included will be study on the ethics and responsibilities of
doing work for God in a world that works for itself. You will be given tools, collateral material, and
processes that have been developed to work for the implementation of Holy Yoga in churches, YMCAs,
community centers, and homes. You will be given access to online instruction tools for continual growth
of your individual practice, your teaching and your ministry. Holy Yoga is dedicated to connecting people
to Christ and is committed to providing you with the tools to do just that.
Sequencing and Weaving
You will be taught the template for Holy Yoga classes. You will learn how to choose, present and
message scripture; correlate scripture to physical poses; and sequence postures to encourage an
energetic experience of release and restoration. We are energetic beings by His design. Holy Yoga
classes are designed to encourage God in our inmost beings via breath, the Word and physical
awareness. Psalm 51:6 says “But you desire honesty from the heart, so you can teach me to be wise in
my inmost being.” When we intentionally allow and encourage Him to find space in our physical bodies,
He will restore, renew and recreate. We will study poses that correlate to physical energy and how to
infuse those with the Word.

2018 Instructor Training Schedule The 225-hour Holy Yoga Instructor training consists of two modules: one 9-week, in-person session
consisting of two classes per week, and one Instructor Training Retreat Intensive. The price of tuition
includes retreat food, accommodations, and ground transportation. Students will be responsible for
their own air transportation and any accommodations required prior to the retreat center opening for
Holy Yoga training.
Regarding families at Retreat
We want to ensure that you are able to intimately connect with Christ while at your retreat intensive
without the distractions of your family responsibilities. For this reason, Holy Yoga does not allow any
family members on campus during the retreat and students are required to remain on campus for the
duration of your Holy Yoga experience. We understand this is a challenge for some of our students, so
we ask you to pray through any concerns and know that the Lord wants to meet you in a powerful way.
To make sure you have the full experience He has prepared for you, we do not make exceptions to this
requirement.

Testimonials I praise the Lord for the opportunity Holy Yoga has given me to step out in my faith- I can't wait to teach a class
with God's words spoken and sent out- God allows it to comfort, to inspire, to steady and strengthen, and bear
fruit! I pray to grow in obedience to his call.
Donna Fischer, R-HYI - New Jersey
Tears flow just thinking of the gift of life today, and how out of this season, Holy Yoga found me, and my calling
was revealed. After my husband prayed over me last night before I went to my class, he reminded me of when we
were dating and how I always longed to be passionate about my "work" and ministry, but that I had no clue as to
what that is. This is it. It truly is. “You let the distress bring you to God, not drive you from him. The result is all gain ,
no loss...We never regret that kind of pain" 2 Corinthians 7, The Msg. I feel BEYOND blessed to have studied at HY. I
honestly have no words to describe the love I have for Holy Yoga and my desire to bring it to all that I know.
Sara Jean Johnson, R-HYI – Colorado
The Scripture based Holy Yoga online training transformed my relationship with Christ by putting me in touch with
a prayer community of unconditional love. As a survivor of child abuse and of a recent violent carjacking my spirit
was lagging. I needed rejuvenation and Holy Yoga Instructor Training provided a reconnection with body, mind,
heart and soul! My HYI partner and I are forever connected. I highly recommend Holy Yoga Instructor training if you
want to transform your connection to Christ, need a prayerful support network of loving Christians and want to
spread Christ's peaceful healing to all!
June Beyer, R-HYI
The community I experienced during retreat was overwhelming. WE encouraged one another in the different paths
we are on in our lives and developed what I felt were heart felt, life-long connections. I have NEVER been a part of
something so incredible and I was changed as a person of God for the better.
Robin Norgren, R-HYI - Graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary
He gave my heart a safe place to land where I could be before Him on my mat and see others struggling before the
Lord... and it was ok! He gave me brothers and sisters, while diverse and from varying backgrounds, at the end of
the day wanted one thing... more of Jesus! So, if you want to be, "welcomed as Christ has welcomed you, for the
glory of God" (Romans 15:7, ESV), then Holy Yoga is a safe place to experience it and you'll be glad you did.
Shaun Harris, R-HYI
