is has truly been a special year for our school community, especially for our students and faculty. e celebration of our 50th Anniversary of Lasallian Education in the Diocese of Joliet has been a great learning experience for all of us. e many eventsand reunions have provided us the opportunity to look back andlearn about the history of our school.

Our 50th Anniversary has also provided many of our alumni, parents of alumni, and former faculty and staff the opportunity to return and reconnect with fellow classmates and former students. Our students have also had the opportunity to meet many of these important members of Montini’s history. e interaction betweenour current students, faculty and staff with alumni and former faculty and staff has been a wonderful thing to witness and experience. is was most evident at our 50th Anniversary of Music on February 18th. Over 100 alumni came back to performat North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall.

Our alumni were impressed with the musical performances of ourstudents, and our students were equally impressed with the musicaltalent of our alumni. Our students saw first-hand the commitmentand pride that our returning alumni demonstrated and how alumnican give back to their alma mater without writing a check. Not onlywas the participation of our alumni impressive, the turnout of alumniparents who came to see their son or daughter perform once againwas just as impressive. It was great seeing so many familiar faces. Mysincere appreciation goes out to former Music Directors, Mary Utterback Gibson, Joan Kertay and Debora Utley as well as ourcurrent Music Directors, Belford Hernandez and Matt Loeb, for alltheir help and hard work in conducting our alumni and studentchoirs. It was a wonderful evening - one that we will never forget.

We are now looking forward to our 50th Anniversary Celebration onSaturday, June 4, 2016 at the Drury Lane, Oak Brook Terrace. Onpage 11 you will find details of this historical event including themembers of our school community who will be honored on this special evening.

Over the last 50 years many things have changed at MontiniCatholic, but TWO things have remained the same – aspects of ourschool that have been hallmarks of our success – our Lasallian Mis-sion of Education and the people of Montini Catholic. We are a

special school community because of the great people who haveattended, taught, coached and supported our school - people who believe and live our Lasallian Mission of Education.

Our June 4th Anniversary Celebration will be a night to celebrate theschool’s past, present and the future but more importantly it will be acelebration of people – the families, alumni, faculty, students, parentsand friends who have made out school one of the best collegepreparatory schools in the state of Illinois.

I hope to see many of you on June 4th and “May Jesus Live In YourHearts…Forever.”

Sincerely,

Jim SegredoPresident

is year’s March for Life was unlike any other! With super storm “Jonas” threatening up to 3 feet of snow, Montini advisors were forced to contemplate cancelling the much an-ticipated trip to Washington D.C. After much debate, the group, under the direction of theDiocese of Joliet, decided to go. “We drove through the night, and after many stops andcups of coffee, we made it to the beautiful Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.” said eology teacher, Katie Wall, who accompanied the students along with Mr. Denis Block. “Mass was lovely and packed full of people prayingand supporting each other in the same mission: life.” e group attended a Youth Rally andMass alongside countless other high school and college students to sing, dance, and pray forlife. “is event is full of energy and passion. It is truly incredible to see so many young peo-ple gathered together to take a stand for what they believe in and to make their faith a prior-ity in their lives,” said Ms. Wall.

“e impending storm forced many groups including ours to leave prior to the March. Wehope that our small contribution will make a further effort in promoting a culture of lifeand a stop to abortion,” said Ms. Wall. We are grateful for the opportunity and we lookforward to attending next year's March for Life, hopefully with a little less snow!”

MONTINITradition Comes

to an End for One Very

Special Couple

Montini’s Father Daughter Dance has be-come a memorable tradition anticipated bymany. is year's dance was extra momen-tous for one special couple who enjoyedtheir last twirl together on Montini's floor.Coach Michael Bukovsky’83 and his seniordaughter, Amy, have attended a total of 18Father Daughter dances together. ey lovingly termed this year's celebration as an "18 Peat."

"Our first dance was on Valentine’s Day,1999 when Amy was about to turn one yearold," recalled Bukovsky. "e music wasloud in the cafeteria and she actually startedcrying at first! Soon she got used to it andwe had a good time." Amy, of course, doesnot remember that night, but has her ownspecial memories of her many years at herdad's side. "It is hard to pick just one memory from our dances. Each one was special because my dad and I were able todress up nice and spend a night dancing together away from any sports."

Bukovsky is enjoying a long history atMontini Catholic. In 2015 he completedhis 30th year of coaching, a passion whichbegan in 1985.

For the last 18 years, Amy, who will be attending Lewis University in the fall, hasbeen a fixture at Montini. She could alwaysbe found by her father's side, whether at thedance, in the wrestling room or on the

football field. "My favorite memories are allof the times Amy was with me over the sum-mers, and at wrestling and football practicesthroughout the years," said Bukovsky. "Hermom wasn't too happy, however, when shegot ringworm from the wrestling mats whenshe was about 6 months old during summerwrestling practice!"

"I also remember when she was in 4th gradeand she went to summer football camp hereat Montini with all the boys. She scored atouchdown in the championship game!" Hesaid. "I always looked forward to having hergive me a big hug on the field after all of thehome games, a tradition we still carried onthrough this season when we won the 6AChampionship."

Bukovsky also recalls winning the school’sfirst state football championship in 2000 atAugustana College in Rock Island. Amywas only 2 years old at the time. "I have apicture with her and the Championship trophy, and the trophy is actually biggerthan her!"

Amy fondly remembers all of the footballgames and championships and is very grate-ful to be going through the softball seasonsand successes with her dad by her side."Overall, I love attending school where mydad works. In the event that I ever needsomething from him during the day, I knowhe is there to talk to whenever I need him,"

she said. "However, in some cases it is moreof a curse than a blessing," she added. "Heis always around and you never know whenhe is going to pop up in the hallways, and itis kind of weird that he is friends with allyour teachers, and especially in the case ofmy dad who likes to do crazy things likegoing on the roof of the school dressed asRic Flair - it can be embarrassing."

"I can't believe how fast the time has gone,"said Bukovsky "I have been fortunate to beable to have shared many great Montini experiences with her. It was very emotionalat the last dance. On one hand I was sad torealize her time at Montini was coming to a close, but on the other hand, I was reallyproud of all she has accomplished at Montini, and the great young lady she hasbecome!"

"It was really sad being at my last dance withmy father," said Amy. "We have been goingto these dances for my entire life, and it iscrazy to know that this one was our last."

"Working with Mike in Admissions, our offices were across the hall from each other,"says Admissions Director, Kim Richmond'81. " I have been blessed to watch bothBukovskys grow over the last 18 years - Amy into a mature young lady and Mikeinto an awesome dad who always had hiseyes focused on his pride and joy."

Michael Bukovsky anddaughter, Amy, share

their last Father DaughterDance together.
