GEC Thrissur started functioning in
the Chembukkavu campus of
Maharajas Technological Institute
in 1957. The foundation stone of
the col lege was laid by Late Shri .
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first
Prime Minister of India, on 26th
Apri l 1958 and the col lege was
formal ly inaugurated by the late
Shri . Pattam A. Thanu Pi l la i , the
then Chief Minister of Kerala, on
2nd February 1962. The present
col lege campus is spread over an
area of 75 acres and is affi l iated to
the University of Cal icut.
Ever since its inception, GEC
Thrissur has marched ahead to be
the most sought after centre of
technical excel lence and one of
most prestigious institution of
Technical Education in Kerala.
I t is reputed for the qual ity of
faculty and the outstanding
cal ibre of the students
graduating from its
undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes.
The institute fresh from it's
Golden Jubi lee celebrations has
been striving to provide learning
blended with creativity and
innovation to create leaders of
tomorrow for which
opportunities are provided
through rigorous academic, co-
curricular and extra-curricular
activities. The col lege has a
faculty strength of more than
200 wel l qual ified teachers, 80
special ly trained workshop and
laboratory technicians and
about 100 administrative staff.

among all the Government Engineering Colleges in India
Hari Narayanan of 2005-09 batch Electronics and Communication Engineering secured
first rank in the GATE 2010 Examination.
Survey conducted
by MINT
Jain Basil Aliyas of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, 2007-11 batch,
successfully participated in Google Summer of Code 2010.
The institute maintains state-of-
the art instructional faci l i ties in
al l departments with excel lent
audio visual aids to enhance the
qual ity of instruction.
The col lege is equipped with
Edusat Faci l i ty under MOU
signed with Indian Space
Research Organization. Under
this scheme two-way interactive
sessions are possible using
which l ive classes can be
conducted. Classes conducted in
engineering stream by expert
faculty, beamed from the
Amritha University Campus in
Coimbatore and that of eminent
US professors are being received
by this centre. This faci l i ty is
useful for the student
community as wel l as for the
teachers.
The l ibrary has more than
60,000 books and back volume
Journals. I t is ful ly automated
and Onl ine Publ ic Access
Catalogue (OPAC) is avai lable to
students and staff.

The various academic
programmes are designed to
provide the industry needs and
have the flexibi l i ty to evolve and
change in response to new
requirements. The col lege uses a
judicious blend of concepts,
theory and practise to prepare
the students to function ina
dynamic environment. The main
emphasis is to develop ski l ls and
aptitude to put acquired
knowledge into practise which
makes the courses interesting.
The admission to the various
courses in engineering is done
purely on merit, based on the
Common Entrance Examination
(CEE) conducted by the state of
Kerala. Admission to M.Tech is
based on the GATE scores and
that of B.Arch on the score in
National Aptitude Test for
Architecture (NATA) conducted by
the Counci l of Architecture.

At GEC Thrissur, strong emphasis
is la id on academic, co-curricular
and extra-curricular activities to
ensure an al l round development
of the student whi le providing
multiple platforms for students to
improve their soft ski l ls, which are
imperative for one to excel in his/
her work space. The col lege has
hosted a number of cultural ,
sports and technical fests
including the most coveted
cultural fest in Cal icut University,
the Interzone youth festival ,
multiple times.
The students are also required to
take part in a number of
organizational activities. Each of
these organizations is considered
to be at the forefront in its
respective field and has been a
source of inspiration for various
simi lar activities in institutes
across the state.
TECHFEST: Al l the departments
conduct their individual tech
fests. The institute also conducts
Open House for the publ ic.

CULTURAL FEST: Confluence is
the col lege cultural fest. The
institute has also hosted the
university cultural fest several
times.
SPORTS: The col lege organises
C.P. Ayyappan Memorial Hockey
Tournament annual ly. Apart from
this, the col lege Union Games are
also conducted every year.
Several department level sports
programs, seminars and talks are
also conducted by the students.
The students also share some of
the col lege administrative tasks
which include hostel maintenance
and mess. The Anti Ragging
campaign in the institute is
considered the best in the
country, with no complaints of
ragging being reported in the
past several years. Besides, a
host of other activities l ike

Publ ications including the Col lege
Magazine and Graffiti , Student
Alumni Relations Cel l (SARC), etc.
are taken care of by students.

The Placement Office (the formal point of contact for the placements) or the Placement Cel l (the body of
student representatives) sends invitations to companies/ organizations along with relevant information.
The companies interested in recruiting send in their response containing detai ls of the job, selection
criteria and the offer to the Placement Office. The detai ls can also be sent either by post or emai l to
Placement Cel l / Office, GEC Thrissur ([email protected]).
I f the company/ organization wishes to conduct a Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) they can send a request along
with the preferred dates.
The detai ls of the job is made avai lable onl ine to the students, along with any other information
furnished by company/organization.
Placement Office al lots dates in consultation with the companies for campus interviews. Dates are
al loted to the companies on a first come first serve basis.
Companies visit the campus on the al lotted date(s) and conduct tests and/or interviews according to
their recruitment process.
The company/ organization is required to furnish the final l ist of selected students after the interview.

During the year 2008-09, which
