TARGET AUDIENCE

SEISMIC DESIGN OF BUILDING STRUCTURES- A COURSE FOR PRACTISING ENGINEERS

~iS comprehensive and practical coursewill cover the conceptual, preliminary andfinal design of frames and walls of concrete, steel and masonry.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Emphasison design (i.e.systemtypology selection, member materials and section selection, andreinforcement provisioning), including conceptualand preliminary design for the most prevalentforms of regional construction.

• Comprehensive review of the calculation ofseismic loads and design actions including theeffects of irregularity and the selection of theanalysismethod.

• Comprehensive review of MDOF StructuralDynamics(2Dshearbeam building model).

• Review of the non-seismic design of structuralsteelmoment frames.

• Design of the structural systemsindicated inTable1, and in compliance with ASCE7-05, ACI 318-05,AISC341-10,AISC358-10,AISC360-10,ACI530-02.

• Design methods are with respect to the ultimatestrength design philosophy and for special ductilesystemsonly.

• Advice on Specifications development, designcalculations packaging and drawings management.

Practising civil engineers (thoughbuilding inspectors/technicians may alsobe interested) .
