Preston Academy of English welcomes students from all over the world who want to learn the skillsand knowledge to become confident English users.

Based in the multicultural and friendly city of Preston,Lancashire in the North-West of England, we provideEnglish courses at a range of levels, from beginner(A1) to advanced (C1).

In the classroom you will learn with students who areat the same skill level as you. Our classes are alsosmall, with an average of 7 students each andmaximum 10 students per class.

Our teachers are supported by an experienced team,including a dedicated academic manager and welfaremanager who make sure that the academic andwelfare needs of our students are taken care of.

Preston is a small city in the English region of Lancashire, about 320kms from the capital city ofLondon. It has a population of around 140,000, who are welcoming and friendly people, especially toanyone who is new to the city.

Preston has a student population of 30,000, many ofwhom come from overseas to attend the Universityof Central Lancashire (called UCLan). So our studentsare in good company, among similar people who havemade the city their home.

The presence of so many students means thatPreston has fantastic shops, restaurants and cafes,not to mention a lively nightlife.

Preston railway station is a 10-minute walk from theAcademy. By train you can reach London to the Southand the Scottish capital Edinburgh to the North, bothin less than 2 hours 30 minutes. Manchester andLiverpool are less than an hour by train.

The bus station is less than a minute’s walk from theAcademy, offering bus routes throughout Preston andnationwide.

Preston has many historic buildings, including StWalburge’s Church, which has the tallest spire of anyparish church in England, standing at 94 metres, andthe Harris Museum and Art Gallery.

Beautiful Avenham and Miller Parks are lovely spotsin the city centre to relax and enjoy the great outdoors.During the warmer months, the parks play host tomany exciting festivals and events.

For football lovers, Preston North End at Deepdale isthe home of the city’s professional team. For exerciselovers, Preston has many gyms plus outdoor andindoor football pitches and any number of clubs andorganisations where you can play your favourite sport.Just 2km from the city centre is Brockholes NatureReserve, home to a diverse range of wildlife.Brockholes staff organise a wide range of activities,from organised walks to jewellery-making.

For those venturing outside Preston, rail andmotorway networks provide quick and easy access tothe major northern cities of Manchester and Liverpool,both just an hour away and with countless attractions. Less than an hour from Preston by car or train are thepopular coastal towns of Blackpool (Britain’s mostpopular holiday destination), Southport, Lytham StAnnes and Morecambe.

Definitely worth seeing in Blackpool is the spectacularTower, a landmark rising 158 metres, and theIlluminations, a seafront lights show that runs fromthe end of August until early November and is free toattend.

The Lake District National Park to the North and theYorkshire Dales to the East are both an hour away, andpopular destinations for lovers of nature and scenicbeauty.

Our teachers are at the heart of our success. Our aim is to give you the best quality learning experienceand to challenge you to reach your full potential in the time that you study with us.

Our teachers are all motivated, hard working, friendlyand helpful. In addition to their varied experiences,they attend regular teacher development workshopsat the Academy as part of their continuousprofessional development. This way our teachers arealways up to date and aware of the latest teachingtechniques and methodologies.

Our teachers will help you learn English in anengaging, creative, dynamic, interesting andimaginative ways, making the important skills ofreading, writing, listening and speaking the mainstayof language acquisition.

At Preston Academy of English we give every studentour individual attention. Every full-time studentreceives four-weekly tutorials to build their individuallearning plan. This allows the academic manager to besure that every student is getting the greatest benefitfrom their time at the Academy.

In class you will study and learn in different ways bypractising reading, writing, speaking and listeningskills, conversing with the teacher and other studentsand learning to use correct grammar and vocabularyin varied and engaging ways.

All Homestay host families are sourced throughPreston Academy of English which has a greatreputation for ensuring that all studentaccommodation is clean, comfortable and safe.

Host families make their student guests feel at homeand provide them with the opportunity to speakEnglish in a relaxed setting.

As you would expect, students and hosts benefithugely from the hosting experience.

The Academy’s dedicated welfare manager is availableat all times to ensure welfare needs are met. Thewelfare manager also makes sure that safeguardingand safety checks have been made with host families.Every host family provides their student guest withthe following:

• A fully furnished single room • Weekly laundry, clean towels and bedding provided• Breakfast and evening meal on weekdays (Monday

to Friday).• Breakfast, lunch and evening meal at weekends

(Saturday and Sunday).

Preston Academy of English aims to match studentrequirements as closely as possible with suitablefamilies.

Unless asked for, students are not placed in the sameHomestay accommodation as others with the samemother-tongue. Please note that English is the mainlanguage spoken by Homestay families.

Once a Homestay has been arranged, informationabout the host family is provided to the student beforetheir arrival.

Every Homestay is a maximum journey time of 25minutes (walking or by bus) from the Academy whichis one minute’s walk from Preston bus station.
