Established in 2013 with the purpose of broadening access tohigh-quality professional accountancy education to aspiringChartered Management Accountants. IMAS is the brainchild ofNkosinathi Thela. IMAS, a professional accountancy institutionspecializes in Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)and Association of Chartered Certi�ed Accountants (ACCA)quali�cations.

The National Skills Fund identi�ed accountants and �nance managersamong the skills that are in shortage in South Africa. IMAS decided toadd the highly regarded ACCA quali�cation to its o�ering to assist inclosing the gap identi�ed by the National Skills Fund. IMAS intendsto play a meaningful role in supporting the country to realize itsaspiration as encapsulated in the National Development Plan (NDP)of training and developing highly skilled graduates.

For the Certi�cate in Business Accounting

You don’t need any formal quali�cation to start this level.You will need a good understanding of both English andMaths and a passion to succeed in business. If you aredoing Math Literacy, you will need a minimum of 50%pass rate. If you have an accredited accounting quali�cation,you might be eligible for exemptions from subjects at thislevel.

CIMAGATEWAYROUTE

Are you a SAIPA member or hold an MBA Quali�cation The Professional gateway and Master’s gateway routes are anaccelerated entry routes to the CIMA Professional Quali�cation andthe globally recognised CGMA designation for individuals who holdan MBA or Master's in Accounting.

How does it work Eligible individuals are required to take the CIMA Gateway exam, alsoknown as the Management Level Case Study exam for those who arenot on the accelerated route.

The CIMA gateway exam is:• A computer based case study exam• Three hours long• Available in four windows a year (February, May, August and November)• Assesses knowledge and competencies covered in the Management level of the CIMA Professional Quali�cation

In preparation for the Gateway Exam, IMAS offers eight to ten weeksof contact classes through its part-time or home study programme.This will be followed by a two weeks of case study workshop, you canrefer to our 2020 timetables for dates and venue available on ourwebsite.

Once you have passed the CIMA Gateway Exam, you will be granted12 exemptions that include subjects from the certificate level,operational and management level exams, allowing you to progressstraight to the strategic level of CIMA Professional Quali�cation.

How much does it costYour fees are divided into two:

1. CIMA fees = R9,000 which covers: • Registration with CIMA• First year’s subscription fee• One attempt at the exam• 11 exemptions from Certificate, Operational and Management Level, after successfully passing the CIMA Gateway Exam

How to get startedIMAS will register you with CIMA and submit documentsproving your eligibility for this route. Documents include:

• Complete academic transcripts (mark sheets) for all your quali�cations• Graduation certificate(s) or a letter from your University con�rming completion or letter from your professional body• Once your documents have been reviewed and approved you will then be con�rmed onto the gateway route by CIMA and commence with your classes in preparation for your Gateway Exam

This exclusive pathway for CA (SA), is a very structuredapproach. You can only be admitted into this pathwayvia application to the CIMA-SA o�ce. IMAS will assistwith the application.

Target Audience: All quali�ed CA’sAll CAs are exempted from 15 modules and only assessed on theStrategic Case study exam. After the process of exam completion, youwill need to apply to become a member. Once you are a member,your designation (CGMA) will be internationally recognised.
