In 2011 the UK’s Outdoor Media Centre (OMC) and Campaign magazine teamed up to showcase the best creative work from across the last five decades by launching the Outdoor Hall of Fame www.outdoorhalloffame.co.uk. More than 10,000 people voted for their favourite posters, with Hello Boys & Terrible Thing Envy by TBWA for Wonderbra in 1990 taking the top spot. Mike Baker, Chief Executive of the Outdoor Media Centre, said: “It’s clear that really successful posters create lasting memories and a real affection which goes beyond just nostalgia. They are iconic images and lie at the heart of our commercial culture.”

Our family tree includes many of the pioneers of outdoor advertising: Foster & Kleiser in the US, More O’Ferrall and Adshel in the UK, and European

names like Dauphin and Plakanda. Today, we employ 5000 people, generate more than $1bn in revenue, and are part of Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Incorporated; the world’s leading out-of-home advertising media group.

In the city streets of 21 countries, we’re part of the furniture. When brands advertise on our bus and tram shelters and other street structures, they become part of the public social space, entering people’s thoughts and conversations when they are out and about, shopping, commuting, socialising.

Clear Channel operates more than 240,000 panels in partnership with local communities worldwide, on structures that contribute to the urban experience by combining clean, modern, durable design with the real, practical needs of each community. Digital out-of-home is a dynamic medium which offers a platform for brands to offer real-time, tactical, topical and flexible advertising. Digital out-of-home is not just a broadcast outlet, it is a tool for brands to engage with their customers.

CCI’s digital out-of-home estate consists of 1,600 panels in nine countries across Europe. These are in multiple formats in multiple environments including airport, rail, metro, malls and flagship sites such as in London’s Piccadilly Circus. In the US, Clear Channel Outdoor now operates over 480 digital displays in 34 US markets.

SmartBike is a sustainable public transport. Ten years ago, Clear Channel launched the first-ever public bike-sharing programme. Since then, we have developed bespoke solutions with cities such as Stockholm, Milan, Barcelona and Oslo. Subscribers and tourists have made 4.5 million trips and covered an estimated 14 million kilometres on our bikes.

Our SmartBike systems offer cities a new, sustainable, healthy form of public transport that fills the gaps that buses and trams can’t reach, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

BillboardsWith an exclusive contract with the city of Paris for both public construction site fences and private rentals, Clear Channel offers high profile locations within Paris and the best performing products in the area. Billboards are strategically located in the most iconic districts.

Street furnitureClear Channel has developed a new street furniture (2m2) format to offer quality exposure to brands in the heart of Paris.

Digital Clear Channel can offer advertising on France’s largest digital screen in the heart of Europe’s 1st business center ‘La Défense’. 1500 companies, including 14 of the top 20 largest national companies have offices in this area and it is also home to the second largest shopping mall in France. Targeting more than 400,000 daily commuters, advertisers can broadcast copy, sponsor editorial content or develop special events.

MallsClear Channel also holds exclusive contracts in the top shopping malls in France and around the French capital. In the Parisian area, our network features 2m2 format (44 sites) with the possibility of 3D operations, 8m2 (34 sites) and digital screens (5 sites for 36% of assets)

Write the Future, Cromwell Road.

The Nike Mount Rushmore campaign was planned over three months as a centre-piece of Nike’s World Cup advertising activity. This collaboration between Nike, Clear Channel’s Create team, Wieden & Kennedy, Mindshare and Kinetic was named the number one outdoor campaign of 2010 by the UK’s prestigious Campaign magazine.

Process.

Nike provided us with time to scan the faces of their brand ambassadors, including Wayne Rooney, so we could develop 3D images of the players.

The Cromwell Road location is the busiest A road in Europe, connecting Heathrow Airport with Central London, and the most suitable location for the most ambitious outdoor build ever produced in the UK.

A fleet of lorries delivered the heads to the Cromwell Road which, at 4.5m in height, had to be transported and installed individually.

The 3D scans allowed us to laser-cut polystyrene to create the giant heads that would dominate the site.

Our latest moves to cut our response and delivery times, for example, include the introduction of new vehicle fleets, hotline numbers and automatic poster preparation machines.

Our high-density dry-posting initiative doesn’t just make us quicker, it reduces our environmental impact too. This revolutionary process allows posters to be high-density printed and posted gluelessly within 24 hours, and then re-posted in other locations up to three times in 12 months.
