me Dear colleagues,
Gratitude, information, initiatives, and an invitation;
I am grateful for the thousands of colleagues that have performed with Manhattan Concert Productions around the world since our 1999 inception. I am grateful for an outstanding MCP staff to guide future experiences. And I am grateful for your work in providing performance opportunities to the musicians under your leadership.
This brochure presents current information to assist in planning this and future program years. Thoughts about principles and purpose are followed by performance dates, venues, a list of our outstanding faculty of guest conductors, and the various series by which we organize our offerings.
Each year, we continue our mission of comprehensive arts administration and performance production. New initiatives include professional ensembles in residence: Manhattan Chorale, with its esteemed composer-in-residence Ola Gjeilo, and New York City Chamber Orchestra; the publishing arm Manhattan Press featuring new musical works and a quarterly publication called Forward Motion with thoughts from our faculty; and Fine Arts Funding dedicated to assisting arts initiatives, projects, and program needs for arts organizations.
Last season we presented our inaugural Broadway Series with a concert version of Ragtime to a sold out house at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. The show featured a professional Broadway production team, leads, and orchestra. This season, we are pleased to be presenting a concert version of Titanic, again at the 2,800 seat Avery Fisher Hall. Also new in 2014 is our Chicago Masterclass Series for bands and orchestras in collaboration with VanderCook University, Chicago; our inaugural Barbershop Festival, and, a return of our Cathedral Series for church and community choirs in sacred spaces in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago.
We cordially invite you to join us and sincerely look forward to the collaboration! Please let us know how we can be helpful to you and your ensembles.

PRINCIPLESOur production and performance activities are guided by principles of musicianship, hospitality, and value. We recognize and seek the pursuit of excellence, the inclusive and inherent value of persons, and corporate responsibility to the communities we serve and the professions we encompass.
The pursuit of musicianship means that we want our participants to grow musically, enriching MCP performances and informing their own work in the future. MCP will provide:
● worthy and appropriate collaborating ensembles ● exciting venues ● quality literature ● means to musical growth ● thoughtful and proactive preparation tools ● excellent leadership by effective guest conductors and educators
Hospitality is servant leadership, courtesy, and the sharing of goodwill and collegiality with others. Staff persons at MCP are
expected to integrate hospitality into their work. Our goal is to be consistently excellent producers with an eye for detail, an ear for musical excellence, and a heart for the well-being of others. Hospitality starts with the thoughtful and respectful collaboration of colleagues – and extends to the warm welcome of guests to MCP events.
Value refers to Manhattan Concert Productions’ commitment to goods and services that are truly valuable – and fairly priced. MCP is a projection of staff values. We seek to be proud of what we do, how we do it, and who we do it with.
PURPOSEWe seek to offer leadership to our constituencies. We share our collective experiences in music, teaching, business and travel – and guide our participants into meaningful enhancement of their programs. Ensemble conductors hire us to orchestrate national and international performing opportunities that they may not have the time, expertise, or inclination to develop themselves – amidst the many and varied tasks of musical leadership and program administration at home.

Carnegie HallCarnegie Hall opened with a bang in 1891 with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky conducting his Marche Solennelle on Opening Night. From that moment on, the hall has enjoyed its illustrious reputation for hosting the world’s best musicians such as Maria Callas, The Beatles, Leonard Bernstein, Judy Garland, Rachmaninoff, Plácido Domingo, Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett. Events are held in the main hall (Stern Auditorium/Perleman Stage), and two smaller halls (Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall). How does one get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. Practice. Practice.
Alice Tully HallCompleted in 1969 and renovated in 2009, Alice Tully Hall is now one of the most acoustically pleasing venues in New York. It has been host to numerous events since its construction including Mostly Mozart, Great Performers, The New York City Film Festival, and the inaugural sold out performance by Manhattan Chorale & Chamber Orchestra in For Unto Us a Child is Born - A Celebration of Christmas in December 2012. The Hall can comfortably seat 1,086 patrons and features a 3,600 square foot patron’s salon on the Mezzanine level and a public café named at65 in the lobby along Broadway.
Avery Fisher HallOpened in 1962 with a seating capacity of 2,738, Avery Fisher Hall is the home of the New York Philharmonic and host to many traveling orchestras from all over the world. The hall has seen performances by legendary artists such as Simon & Garfunkel and Queen and is the home of Live From Lincoln Center, an annual broadcast of concerts, ballets, operas and other recitals produced by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and PBS. AFH also hosted MCPs’ inaugural, sold out concert performance of Ragtime in 2013.
Rose Theater & The Allen RoomDesigned acoustically to be the premier jazz performance hall in the world, Rose Theater is the result of a collaboration between Jazz at Lincoln Center Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis and the top international theater planners and engineers to create the centerpiece of the “House of Swing.”
Based on the design of a Greek amphitheater, The Allen Room merges luxuriant splendor with functional accessibility. One glance at the dramatic 50’ × 90’ wall of glass confirms that The Allen Room possesses one of New York City’s greatest backdrops - Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.

Orchestra HallSeating over 2,500 people and now part of the Symphony Center music complex, Orchestra Hall was built in 1904, and renovated from 1995-1997 as a home for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Conveniently located on the Southern side of Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile, Orchestra Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., is America’s living memorial to President Kennedy. Opening its doors on September 8, 1971, the Center produces and presents performances of music, dance, and theater; supports artists in the creation of new work; and serves the nation as a leader in arts education. With its artistic affiliates, the National Symphony Orchestra and Washington National Opera, the Center’s achievements as a commissioner, producer, and nurturer of developing artists have resulted in more than 300 theatrical productions, and dozens of new ballets, operas, and musical works.
