This is the LumberKings first trip to Dayton since 2016 after Clinton hosted all of the meeting in 2017 and 2018. Last season, they dropped the first two games of the series with Dayton before rebounding to win the series finale on a Jack Larsen walk-off home run. Thus far in the head-to-head meetings the LumberKings trail the Dragons 52 games to 55. Todays game is the rubber match with the LumberKings attempting to claim their second straight series. LumberKings Starter: Tanner Andrews, 23, makes his second appearance and first start of the year with the LumberKings. The Rochester, Indians native earned the save his last time out for piggy backing a start of Humberto Mejia during his LumberKings debut against the South Bend Cubs on May 3 rd in Clinton. Andrews allowed just one run over his four innings of work surrendering four hits while walking one and striking out one. His 2019 season began in High-A with the Jupiter Hammerheads where he made one brief (0.2 inning) appearance in relief. A gifted all-around athlete in high school, Andrews won MVP honors in high school for football, basketball, and baseball. His high school baseball included time on the mound and at-bat posting impressive marks with a .443 average his freshman year, .496 his junior year, and .601 his senior season. The Miami Marlins selected him in the 10 th round of the 2018 MLB Draft of the University of Purdue. He signed immediately after the draft and made his professional debut on June 26 th with GCL Marlins. Dragons Starter: Ricky Salinas, 23, makes his third appearance and start of the season for the Dayton Dragons. The Houston, Texas native was given a no decision his last time out for four innings of work in which he allowed one run on three hits while walking two and striking out eight against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field. A two-way player in high school, Salinas went 4-2 with a 1.74 ERA during his senior year in addition to batting .405 with three home runs and 24 RBI. The Cincinnati Reds selected him in the 25 th round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Rice in native Texas. He made his professional debut in 2018 with the Billing Mustangs in the Pioneer League going 2-2 with a 4.53 ERA over 12 appearances all as a starter. The Sheriff: Will Banfield continues to stifle any running game opponents attempt to have against him. During Monday’s loss to the Dragons he caught all three of Dayton’s would be base stealers with perfect throws to second base. Twice he caught Shard Monroe to become the first batcher in the Midwest League to throw him out on steal attempt this year. This year 64 stolen base attempts have been tired against Banfield with only 22 succeeding a success rate of just 34%. That Was Quick: Jerar Encarnacion has been playing professional baseball since 2016 after signing a professional contract in 2015 when he was discovered by a scout who was walking the streets in his home town and saw him playing a pick-up game with the neighborhood kids. In that time, he has had flashes of success but saw his production caped in 2018 with a hernia injury that limited him to just 59 games. Healthy and playing every day, Encarnacion has been a tour de force for the LumberKings this year and his two-run home run in the sixth inning on Tuesday night against Dayton was his sixth of the year setting a new professional career high for home runs in a season. Finally: Tuesday night’s win over the Dayton Dragons marked the 30 th game of the year for the Clinton LumberKings. Still the contest served as the first shutout win of the year for the LumberKings – the last team in the Midwest League to register a shutout win. Roster Moves: The LumberKings roster has been in flux over the last two weeks due to the injury bug. As a result, Clinton has made 20 roster moves thus far after not making one in 2018 until April 29 th ! Prior to Tuesday’s game, Cam Baird was assigned to Clinton with Zach Wolf placed on the injured list and following the game infielder Sam Castro was sent to extended spring training with Christopher Torres activated from the injured list. League Leaders: The Clinton LumberKings have several players at or among the league leaders. Christopher Torres, who missed the last 11 games on the injured list, is currently tied for ninth in the league - along with teammate Sean Reynolds - in walks with 19. Jerar Encarnacion finds himself on many lists – he currently owns the most RBIs 28, most total bases, 66, hits, 40, and his .342 average is the third highest in the league. Bubba Hollins was ranked second in the league in average with a .358 mark at the time of his injury but no longer is qualified after having been sidelined since May 2 nd . This Date in Baseball History: On this date in 1992, Astro southpaw Butch Henry becomes the first player to stroke an inside-the-park home run for his first hit in the major leagues when his sinking line drive gets past left fielder Barry Bonds. The historic three-run homer, which is given up by Doug Drabek of the Pirates, will be the only round-tripper the Houston hurler will ever hit during his seven-year career. Today’s Preview: The LumberKings (A, Marlins) continue their longest road trip of the year in both
